Laurie Anderson and Kronos Quartet - Landfall: Scenes from My New Novel on 28 Jun 2013

Location: Barbican Centre

Two legendary forces in new music since the 1980s come together on stage in a major new commission and their first-ever collaboration.

Laurie Anderson is one of America’s most daring creative pioneers, recognized worldwide for the singular marriage of technology and humanity in her work – alternately playing the roles of composer, poet, filmmaker, singer and more. She has countless collaborations to her credit with an impressive array of artists, including William S. Burroughs, Lou Reed, Marisa Monte and Brian Eno; and her last two Barbican appearances with her music-storytelling shows Homeland and Delusion have seen full houses and won critical praise across the board.

The visionary string ensemble Kronos Quartet mark their 40th anniversary in 2013, having journeyed with countless audiences through a repertoire that spans the globe and ranges from early music to more than 750 contemporary works commissioned by or for Kronos.

On its musical journey, the quartet has collected an eclectic mix of collaborators from the most disparate backgrounds, including Philip Glass, Tom Waits, Steve Reich, famed Azeri vocalist Alim Qasimov, The National’s Bryce Dessner, Azerbaijan's Franghiz Ali-Zadeh and more. In the last 20 odd years in particular many of these collaborations have premiered or been performed on the Barbican stage, culminating in January 2012 with a special week-long residency which also featured an extensive programme of education events and performances across East London.

‘A powerful dream’ ★★★★ Financial Times on Delusion (2010)

‘No chamber group has done more to change the musical landscape than the Kronos Quartet’ The Independent
