"Moitessier" will appear on the forthcoming album and can be found here for streaming: Moitessier. It is inspired by the French yachtsman Bernhard Moitessier, who took part in the first solo, non-stop round-the-world yacht race in 1968, and the film 'Deep Water' (which actually focusses on Donald Crowhurst who committed suicide during the same race, and is very highly recommended if you haven't seen it). Moitessier abandoned the race to continue round the world a second time.
The track itself is a chilled, evocative combination of electronica and ambient, having sections of both, and aiming for a sense of smooth, continuous motion. .

Dig it: an all-instrumental groove-out with a theme about ‘Nam, maaaan. And believe me when I say that it being all-instrumental is this disc’s saving grace when it comes to the source of inspiration. After all, this could have turned into a heavy-handed, politically bent bad trip, and well, ‘Nam’s been done to death in both all seriousness and taking knocks in comedic circles. So sit back and dig the grooves of “Saigon ‘67,” which features some groovy percussion, and a cool, toked-out vibe. “Huey” filrts with wah-wah guitars and ’70s Zappa-esque frippery and goes down well. “Jungle Warfare” is laden with heartbeats and a spooky dank ambiance that makes you feel as if you are there. Then there’s the crunchy “Poisoned Sky” which puts R.E.M.’s “Orange Crush” into its pithy place. By the time you make it to “The Fall of Saigon,” you’ll be ripped and spent. Why can’t more artists who feel the need to crank out conceptual chunder follow the Reel Banditos’ lead and just keep their pens quiet and their instruments cranked? Ya got me, but this is one of those left field oddities worth a good listen.

The Reel Banditos are a unique act. Imagine if CCR mated with KMFDM and listeners will have some sort of clue what The Reel Banditos are doing during this EP. Where there are no vocals during this track, The Reel Banditos do a heck of a job creating an easy to follow narrative that is present at all points during this track. Their dedication to this sound continues through this EP, and can especially be heard (and seen) during their single, “Huey”.

“Huey”’s video was created by the Frame Fighters, an experimental video-creation collective, and it begins with a chopper flying toward the viewer. The cut-out style that is used for the figures in the video speaks well to The Reel Banditos’ own style of music, while the portrayal of a creek (in a digitized style that clashes with the rest of the frame) speaks volumes to the eclecticism of The Reel Banditos through “Huey” and the rest of the release. The allure of The Reel Banditos extends beyond the music that is present on the EP, and as “Huey” shows, can and should be present in a multi-media presentation.

“The Fall of Saigon” builds up in much the same way as “Huey”, with ominous instrumentation creating an atmosphere in which anything can happen. Whether it be gunshots, bombs, mines, or the like, listeners do not know. The rapid tempo that the track achieves further highlights this danger, and the Eastern flavor of the track really hammers home the theme of this release. “My Lai” has a slower flow to it than “The Fall of Saigon”, creating the image of a dignified community that has a sorrow present, understanding what events are to come. Later tracks on “Indochina”, such as “The Fall of Saigon” and “The Non Nucc”, put the cap on what is a tremendously well-detailed and dense theme album.

Where the electronic genre has stagnated in the years following from the turn of the new millennium, The Reel Banditos are able to freshen that art form through building off of the work of storied artists such as The Chemical Brothers, Air, and Crystal Method and imbuing the earlier styles with a myriad of different styles and genres, ensuring that listeners can easily define the music that they are hearing as unique Reel Banditos tracks. I have a feeling that subsequent releases by The Reel Banditos will continue to experience and expand upon what the band touched on during this EP and that after this release, that fans of all stripes will flock to any live shows or follow-up releases that the band may come out with in the next few years. Singlehandedly, The Reel Banditos have saved electronic music.

In the early morning hours of the Vietnamese lunar New Near celebrations in 1968 (31.01.1968) the North Vietnamese forces (Vietcong) began what is now widely know as the „TET Offensive" in many parts of the country, including Saigon. This was a turning point in the conflict, as public opinion in America turned against the war. It would not end until 1975.The Reel Banditos have decided to release an album titled „Indochina" that revolves around the subject of the „Vietnam War". Each song will deal with a particular aspect of the conflict and leave it to the listener's imagination to come to their own conclusions.
„It's a sort of virtual score to a film that exists in people''s minds." says Nesto, the producer of the album.
Why Vietnam?
Nesto: „Well, if you look at what's happening in Iraq now you can't help
but think that nothing much has changed and that sadly nothing was learnt by the current U.S. administration. This album is about war in general and the tragedy, mayhem and madness it invokes."

I am a feverish alien, doing the thing I find rather challenging: reviewing which songs will go on the album to be shortly released, and which will not. The free download of the song, "Blood Moon" is found under the "Basement Tapes" album, which will contain all the songs I love but have not put on an album. Most of them will be free downloads, I am sure.

Honestly, the song that I am releasing today was mighty hard to set free. I LOVE the sample that is used, and am always struck by it everytime I listen to this song. However, I am going to give it to all you beautiful peeps....it sure as Hell is better than Marilyn Manson trying to sing Lady Gaga or other major label flotsam and jetsam...and I say that with my modesty fully intact. In order to survive on my home planet, we all are inserted with a chip that monitors our level of narcissism. Maybe Obama could look into this for extreme cases, but I would never want to bother the man.

Anyway, the song is called "Blood Moon" and I hope it knocks your socks off, kewl cats and dolls!
