This is one of the most exciting seasons for being a Raining Pleasure fan - the time a new RP album is getting ready!!!!

I have listened about 5-6 songs so far.

Only one of it is yet finished; what you may call a proper song. It is called "Burn Down The Church" and it is a song that the band has played live, over the last few months.

I have already told you what i think about it (check here), haven't i?

Well, here is what i think about the direction of the new Raining Pleasure album: it is gonna kick out many asses! :) The guitars are rocking their guts out and the usual catchy melodic lines that are prominent in their discography, are still here.

The songs i have listened so far are just some rough ideas, not fully crafted songs, without lyrics, except from some vocals in a couple of parts. But, it is evident that Raining Pleasure are moving to a more guitarish sound. My guess? Their listenings have changed over the last two years and the fact that they may change a producer, as they did for Reflections album, is gonna result to a back to their roots (aka as in their live concerts) sound. That means little, or not at all, presence of synthies and a quite more straight-forward synthetic style.

It seems like my wish for a re-recording of Memory Comes Back [their debut album], maybe the most underestimated album of the band, is not gonna come true, not very soon, at least. You see, Memory Comes Back is their most "rock" album, but lacked a good quality sound. Now, it all seems that the new RP album is gonna be the proper rock "major" album they haven't done yet.

I am pretty anxious about this.

taken from the http://myplanetb612.blogspot.com

Back in 1995, it was carnival time (the famous carnival of Patras). I was just getting to know a new band from Patras, my hometown, from a Pop and Rock Magazine cd-collection.

It was a cd about the local anglophone music scene, featuring bands like Mayday Overdrive, Dirty Saints and a band by Chris Gallanopoulos, called Lexema (or something like that, i don't quite remember).

Raining Pleasure's contribution to the sampler was the following three songs:

A Sad Universe
My Planet B612 (yeaaaaahh, right - our godfather)
and
Let The Light Lead You

Three beautiful, yet "plainly" produced, songs. Nice vocals, sing along personal and kinda melancholic lyrics and a violin that made them stand out!

Well, for the next few months, me and my best friend, Sotiris, never really stopped talking about their music. In February (don't expect me to remember a date, ok?) the school was talking about a very live concert, in theater Pantheon (bought by Village Cinemas eventually). The line up:

Raining Pleasure
Dirty Saints
Mayday Overdrive

and Ksylina Spathia

That's right... Almost all the bands featured in this Pop and Rock sampler, plus one of the biggest then greek-singing rock bands (Ksilina Spathia).

Raining Pleasure were the opening act. I didn't really know the songs, apart from these 3. But, their appearance is the memorable appearance i have since my youth. Lousy sound (Pantheon is kinda notorious for its bad quality sound), but an exceptional closure. Their final song was a cover to Paul Anka's "You Are My Destiny". A song that later would prove to be a special part of their live sets for quite a few years, prior to signing for Emi.

I also remember having a brief conversation with Dimitris Poulikakos, one of the most respected (kinda cult for me, though) rock personas of Greek "underground" music. He told me that these four guys from Patras have a bright future ahead!

Man, you were soooo right :)

Eleven (11) years later, Raining Pleasure have recorded five (5) albums, three (3) of them at Emi Greece. They have been nominated two (2) golden records and they have sold more than 55.000 copies. Thousands of loyal fans follow every new step of theirs.

And most important? They are pretty ready for the big (and quite difficult until someone proves it a myth) step to foreign audiences.

But the most important of all, for me at least, is that they are currently working on their new album! :)

Hope that it won't take long guys...

cheers,

Potis

http://myplanetb612.blogspot.com

#1- The Strokes- 142pl- Well, yes this number is a bit outrageous. I must confess I left the new album on repeat on accident one day. Oh well. First Impressions of Earth (which is not on Last.fm at all) which came out Jan 3rd is a lovely album, I think. I just barely purchased it last week and need some more time to have a detailed review of it. From what I've listened to so far, I'd say it is up to par with all of their other records and I love it. All of their music is so catchy!

#2- Death From Above 1979- 31 pl- I have had 3 of their songs on my itunes for months and months now, but finally got around to buying both
You're A Woman, I'm A Machine and Romance Bloody Romance. I've mostly been listening to You're a Woman but it is definitlely amazing. I've heard they're a great live act as well. Such energy! It's hard to listen to 'em without tapping your feet or something. I'd say it's a harder, denser, sexier, more electronic, and dare i say darker version of Franz Ferdinand. Wonderful.

#3- My Bloody Valentine- 30pl- I had heard of MBV for a long time and after much review reading decided that Loveless was an album I should own. To be honest, at first listen I dissappointed. Although I absolutely love the first track Only Shallow, the rest of it is slower, instrumental stuff that I haven't been able to get into yet. I think/hope I'll like it if I listen to it more, but right now it's not my favorite.

#4- Tegan & Sara- 26pl- Very nice background music for homework and such. Part of my collection of indie/acoustic/pop for days when I don't know what else to listen to. I doubt they'll be in my top ten in the future though. Just not my bag.

#5- The Aquabats- Probably my favorite band of all time. I don't listen to them too often anymore, but I've seen them more times live than any other band, and their newest album from last summer (Charge!!) was just great. Their older stuff was definitely more ska-influenced, but I like the direction they're going now even more. I guess pop/punk/synth rock? They are just a great band all around. Nothing beats rock star superheroes.

#6- Simon & Garfunkel- Good stuff

#7- LCD Soundsystem- Tasty Electronic music.

#8- Fiddler of the Opera- uhh...This is my classical music slipping in. It's a really great compilation of different songs all performed on the violin by Gil Shaham. Dang good violin playing. My favorite songs are the Gershwin ones.

#9- From First To Last- Quite a jump from 8 to 9 eh? FFTL is pretty dang good.

#10- Boy vs Bacteria Pure Electronica. Even better than LCD I'd say.

love, mckay

This might be old news to some, but I just found out that the singer/songwriter for one of the best punk/ska outfits of all time is also behind the two-piece indie group Slowreader. I've been quite an Impossibles fan since just after their demise in 2001 and I started listening to Slowreader a couple of months ago as well. I loved both very much, but hearing that Rory was the genius behind both bands just made both of them seem that much better. I just think it's so cool that a guy that had such a "punkrock" background came out and made some really great quality mellow stuff like Slowreader.

While I was reading about Rory online today, I found out that he actually recorded 10 songs earlier this year and they are up for free download HERE!

I've only listened to all of them once so far, but I really like them.

They're harder than Slowreader but a tad bit more mellow than the Impossibles' sound.

Anyway, I REALLY REALLY LIKE THIS GUY. He writes and performs really really good music.

I though you should know.
