Iscariot Blues

The Beauty of Gemina combineren synthpop met donkere electro gedragen door een integrerende percussie en een prachtig stemgeluid. Ze waren vorige zomer een van de hoogtepunten op het festival Shadowplay en brachten nu hun nieuwste schijf uit genaamd 'The Iscariot Blues ', tijd voor een review.

Gedreven door een opvallend meeslepend drumgeluid worden we vanaf de eerste song 'Voices of winter' in een soort roes gedreven. De zachte, warme stem van Michael Sele maakt het geheel compleet en zorgt voor het ene kippenvel moment na het andere. En dan zijn we nog maar naar de eerste song aan het luisteren. De rest van het album ademt diezelfde meeslepende, diepgaande sfeer uit. Een dromerige en magische wereld gaat voor ons open, dit alles met een lekker donker kantje. Het rare is dat ondanks dat alles op diezelfde lijn ligt, het geen moment gaat vervelen, integendeel. Je wordt als het ware meegezogen in een spiraal van donkere wellust om het zo uit te drukken.

Biohazard & Medical Waste

Even voorstellen: Liquid G. bestaan uit Peter van Bogaert en Kim De Laet. De activiteiten van Liquid G. dateren reeds van eind jaren '80, toen onder de naam 'Liquid Garbage', toen een duo. In 2009 werd Kim toegevoegd onder de naam Liquid G. brachten ze reeds een album uit 'Black Liquid'. Recent kwam dus hun nieuwste schijf 'Biohazard & Medical Waste' uit.

Was het eerste album vooral gericht naar die industrial invloeden, met een stem van Kim die steeds heel hoog ging, is dit op dit nieuwste album ook niet anders. Alleen, en dat is het meest opvallende aan deze plaat is dat er deze keer wel plaats voor enige variatie in zit in zowel de sound als het 'gebruiken' van de stem van Kim. Alle aspecten en toonhoogten komen op dit album voor, zowel in het geluid als in de stem en daar zijn we bij het pluspunt aan dit album aanbeland. Dit lag bij het eerste album allemaal een beetje op dezelfde lijn, zonder afbreuk te doen aan het eerste album, dan is dit hier niet het geval, dit kunnen we alleen maar toejuichen. Het mooie aan deze schijf is dat we een duo horen dat in aankleding en sound is geëvolueerd en durft te experimenteren, wat alvast veelbelovend is naar de toekomst toe.

Fri 16 Dec – Bimfest

BIM fest was aan zijn 10de editie toe en had een affiche samengesteld die er op papier alvast schitterend uitzag. Headliner op vrijdag was Front242 maar hier konden we jammer genoeg niet bij zijn. Op zaterdag waren we er dan wel bij. Op de parking van het grootwarenhuis naast de TRIX aangekomen, waar we normaal gezien altijd parkeren bij concerten daar, werd ons gezegd dat we daar niet mochten parkeren. Het zou de winkeliers weg jagen omdat de parking dan te vol staat, of is het uit angst voor het volk dat op dit festival afkomt? Want zo gevaarlijk zagen die er toch niet uit?
