Two new releases available now from Tympanik Audio.

Disharmony: Room 78

‘Room 78‘ is the highly-anticipated new album by Slovakian Electro-Industrial duo Disharmony. Tight, crushing beatwork is laced with brooding synth pads, heavy basslines, hints of processed guitars, and echoing vocal samples, all punctuated by razor-sharp vocals. Underestimated and duly accomplished, ‘Room 78‘ shines with mindfulness and depth, aptly incorporating a multitude of electronic music styles with proficient cohesiveness and maturity rarely heard in this age of myopic genre monocultures. Featuring collaborations by ISH and Fractured and artwork by Salt.

More info and sounds here: http://www.tympanikaudio.com/releases/ta073

Totakeke: Digital Exorcist

Totakeke marks 10 years of noise-making with his fifth LP ‘Digital Exorcist‘. A gripping barrage of complex rhythmic noise punctuated by head-nodding, hard-nosed beats, stabbing glitch, and taut synthlines. An intricate torrent of richly-layered sounds that swell and retract, guiding the listener through an intricate universe of twisted and unyielding futuristic clamor. Acute rhythmic noise for discerning aural palates. Mastered by Alexander Dietz (Erode, Heaven Shall Burn) and featuring artwork by shift.

More info and sounds here: http://www.tympanikaudio.com/releases/ta074

Both releases available in CD and digital formats.

Order now via Tympanik Audio Bandcamp and mailorder:

http://tympanikaudio.bandcamp.com/

http://www.tympanikaudio.com/order

As always, thank you for your interest and support.

Tympanik Audio | Label and Distribution
www.tympanikaudio.com

Available now:

- Disharmony: Room 78
- Totakeke: Digital Exorcist
- Undermathic: Indistinct Face
- r.roo: Mgnovenie
- Tineidae: Lights
- v/a: Accretion - Tympanik Audio 5-Year Anniversary
- Worms Of The Earth: Anagami
- c.db.sn: ... Famous for Killing Each Other is more than just a soundtrack, it’s a story in and of itself.

Top Tribute Record
V/A - Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International

Now this is a must whether you enjoy the work of Bob Dylan or you couldn’t care less about him. It can’t be denied, though, that his influence upon the music industry as a whole is unquestionable. The beauty of this 4 CD collection is that the music is performed by a great number of famous and not so famous artists from all over the spectrum – from country to folk to soul to (punk) rock.

Top EP
Maranatha - Incarnate

Honorable Mentions:
As I Lay Dying - Awakened
War Of Ages – Return To Life
Gideon - Milestone
Altars - Conclusions
Becoming the Archetype – I Am
The Insyderz – The Sinner’s Songbook
The Chariot – One Wing
Leaders – Now We Are Free
From The Eyes Of Servants – Change The World
Anberlin - Vital

10
Demon Hunter - True Defiance

The truth is my favorite record of DH is their self-titled debut, it was just a angsty Slipknot-influenced nu metal. From then on their sound changed to more metalcore with much melody to make it listenable and memorable. True Defiance marks the second record without the founding member, Don Clark. And it looks like they found their sound – the perfect blend of aggression and melody sprinkled with not-preachy-but-hopeful-and-yet-in-your-face lyrics.

9
The Smashing Pumpkins - Oceania

Billy Corgan is a legend, that’s all there is to it. Whether you like or not, whatever he lays his hands on it’s stellar, controversial, and worth a listen for the sheer beauty that it sheds with its listeners. Be it his solo more electronic effort or the supergroup outing of Zwan or the sounds of The Smashing Pumpkins that saw many grow up under its far-reaching wings. Adore is where I was taken into the fold of Pumpkins. Oceania may not be what many expected, but it is The Smashing Pumpkins even if it’s got Billy Corgan written all over it.

8
Matisyahu - Spark Seeker

This was the record I was both dreaming about when I heard it was coming out and was afraid of at the same time. I was dreaming about getting my hands on it, because Matisyahu left a huge impression on me since the very first tunes of his that I heard. I was afraid because the new record was going to be less rock and more pop as was indicated by many factors. This is exactly what I got when Spark Seeker first started playing. I felt the disappointment creeping in, but then I felt lifted on account of catchy pop melodies and the same honest Matis soul that comes through the lyrics. With this record, although not as “aggressive” as Youth, he definitely reaches a greater audience. More power to ya, Matis!

7
Further Seems Forever - Penny Black

Another long-anticipated reunion that many thought would not be possible. FSF is a band that could boast three awesome records each with a different frontman. The amazing part about each of the records is that each of the releases was stellar in its own way. Penny Black marks the return of the original vocalist Chris Carabba known also for his work in Dashboard Confessional. Even though, the production suffers a little, but the chemistry between the original members of FSF cannot be denied. It is a great comeback, and let us hope this won’t be the last we’ll see of them.

6
Flatfoot 56 - Toil

I’d listened to all records of F56 and although I had enjoyed each of the pieces, I’d say this is the most cohesive outing of theirs and it deserves a top-ten position. It is catchy and it ain’t just punk all the way, it’s got beautiful celtic melody going as well and this is what makes the record contagious. And a celtic punk gospel tune “I’Ll Fly Away” is a great incentive!

5
P.O.D. - Murdered Love

Well, where do I start with these crowd-favorites? I still remember that HM issue with four alternative covers featuring each P.O.D. member. In September of 2001 the world saw the release of Satellite. And since then – although they reached the rockstar status – it seems like they couldn’t find their sound again. There were changes in the line-up and then there was the return to the original fourpiece line up. Murdered Love sounds like a logical progression of Satellite. Honestly speaking, I’d call this record (with one obvious setback – “Bad Boy”) their most mature and theologically sound record to date (especially the title track and the closer, “I Am.”)

4
Tourniquet - Antiseptic Bloodbath

The last record of these monsters of metal led by a true drum (and not only) legend known as Ted Kirkpatrick was years and years ago. Honestly, their Where Moth and Rust Destroy
left me wanting. It felt as though the record prior to that, Microscopic View Of A Telescopic Realm,
was exactly where needed to be. Now, 10+ years later, they revisit the same musicianship and the same songwriting with this stellar piece – Antiseptic Bloodbath.

3
Worthwhile - Carry On Kid

Another surprise in my top ten is a melodic hardcore (at times bordering on some pop-punk sensibilities) offered by a Bay Area, CA bunch known as Worthwhile. Their Carry On Kid is exactly what a youthful vigor demands – fast and raw and yet melodic and emotional. Give it a listen if you enjoy Comeback Kid, It Prevails, Hundredth.

2
The O.C. Supertones - For the Glory

When I found out The O.C. Supertones were disbanding back in 2005 (which by that time was not actually what it used to be back in the 90s) I was devastated. For the Glory hits exactly where their previous records left off with the only exception – this is a more mature record than any of their efforts from the years past. Don’t be fooled, though, this is still ska, but it’s a mature version of it. Mojo and the Tones know exactly what they’re doing!

1
Being As An Ocean - Dear G-D

I remember when I first listened to Defeater’s stellar EP from several years ago. It was the melodic hardcore I had always wanted to hear – angst, passion, bleeding emotions (without becoming emo-tinged in any way). Now take the Defeater’s approach and blend it with the spoken-word kind of approach of La Dispute, and this is where Being As An Ocean hits. It does so for me with its soaring melodies, honest lyrics and deep convictions. Dear G-D is the record to pick up if you haven’t yet.

Closure - Assertion [05:05]
02. Closure - Tonight [04:18]
03. Untitled I [03:41]
04. Untitled II [04:00]
05. Aspect Deletion - Per Year (Closure RMX) [04:15]

What is it that describes natural beauty the best? There are many features you would list, but undoubtedly it's an intriguing balance with simplicity hidden behind the appeal and grace of a first impression. This description is exactly the feeling you may experience while listening to the debut EP by a one man German post-rock project named Closure that was founded by Carl Albrecht in 2010.

The most important thing about an average human brain is that it likes simple, repetitive tunes. Although, if they're too simple, the ears get bored. Therefore, a musician's ability to create unique atmospheres means a lot. These aspects will influence the way a listener perceives a selection of tunes as well as the harmonic or dis-harmonic melodies it's made from. Closure ventured towards composing hallucinatory music which will interact with your natural brainwaves very well. The debut EP was released in 2012. It includes four instrumental songs recorded, programed and arranged by Carl as well as a remix he did for the band Aspect Deletion. Although Carl is the sole recording artist on the EP, he plans to include a live bassist and drummer to perform the music of Closure in concert.

The opening song, "Assertion" initially brings challenging, yet soothing moods. After a while, it gains more passion due to repetitive arrangements based on dirty guitars, drums and bass. The overall atmosphere which advances with a bit of a tension may put a listener into an unexpected, addictive trance.

"Tonight" reflects the composer's view on a type of night many of us are familiar with: dreamy, harmonious, peaceful and sensual. It's usually like that unless you deal with a sleep disorder, tooth ache or generally speaking, got sick. The track doesn't miss dense accents though, many of which were expressed by rhythmic, grungy guitar riffs similar to those from "Assertion", but definitely heavier.

When it comes to "Untitled I" which is the third track on the album, the main vibe behind the meaning of the song is repetition. Carl gains much of his influence from bands like Godflesh as well as their post-rock project, Jesu, who base the foundation of their music on the repetition of hook driven rhythms as well as the characterization of arrangements that rely on the raw power of an intelligently used drum machine. Your joy depends on how long you can forbear the same repetitive guitar arrangements including those in the higher octave ranges. Having 3:41 minutes to utilize within a composition could have led to an achievement of a more outstanding delivery of effects. However, the sound of "Untitled I" does become addictive at some point and includes nice contrasts between pitched and low guitar riffs that are layered along the track.

The following song called "Untitled II" begins with languorous guitars supported by matching, slow drum beats. You'll also hear a bit of light synths accompanying the two. The song sounds relaxing. It may be a good idea to listen to it when you feel the need to dream or meditate.

"Aspect Deletion - Per Year (Closure RMX)" finishes the Closure EP. Its repetitions and overall "nowhere to rush" atmosphere make it a neat non-rock track that is a good match to pubs and clubs where patrons chill out while having regular meetings with friends.

Some bands create original songs when they reach their artistic limit in structure and complexity throughout their compositions, but only if the arrangements are thought out and performed very well. Others, like Closure prefer to focus on building their instrumental songs through simplified songwriting with enchanting moods. All of the songs on this EP bring simple, repetitive schemes, however the sound is extremely captivating. That's the natural beauty as I mentioned above and the track "Assertion" illustrates it the best.

(Katarzyna 'NINa' Górnisiewicz, Fabryka Music Magazine, January 18th 2013)
This review on Fabryka Magazine http://industrialrock.net/php-files_en/articles.php?article_id=463

https://soundcloud.com/closure-post-rock
https://plus.google.com/100297596125107599696

Listen & buy this EP:
http://closure-post-rock.bandcamp.com/album/closure-ep

Tags: post-rock, german music, fabrykamagazine, professional music review, review, discover new music, instrumental rock, soundtrack
