Matteo Guarnaccia wrote in an essay: Psychedelia was the last glittering edge of the twentieth century. A subversive intellectual movement that is immersed in the exploration of inner space. With its colorful imagery, shifting and excessive shock to the greyness gave the bourgeois aesthetic and radically changing the very way we perceive reality.

Post-rock band, Mooncake release Acoustic DVD & Album

Mooncake is a Russian post-rock band founded in Moscow early 2006. Since then Mooncake has been permanently performing at top Moscow clubs and festivals, toured Russia, Ukraine, Baltic countries and shared stage with such bands as God is an Astronaut, Explosions in the Sky, Caspian, Russian Circles and finally became number one of Russian instrumental and post-rock music scene.

In five years time the band released three EPs and one full length album, which were warmly welcomed both by listeners and critics all over the world and the band became one of the most loved post-rock bands in the world.

The newest Acoustic (CD and DVD) is a live show performed by Mooncake on Rain TV. The video contains five tracks in pretty new acoustic arrangements. The release is available through Fluttery Records not only in DVD format, but in CD Audio and digital as well.

Mooncake is sometimes compared to PinkFloyd or Mogwai but the band has made a name for itself having developed its own style and became quiet popular among connoisseurs of genre both home and abroad. Catchy melodies, atmosphere, the ideal balance between rapture and grief: all this has always been Mooncake's distinctive feature.

Today Mooncake is working on its second LP that is planned to be released in 2012. The DVD, CD and the digital versions of the releases are also available on various stores like iTunes, Amazon, Bandcamp. I'm running the risk of becoming homeless at the moment. My landlord is repossessing the flat and I'm desperately trying to arrange somewhere I could move to. So, just in case I end up homeless and have no computer access, I'm trying to get as much of my current work uploaded as possible.

Making a music video for the song Citadel of Sorrow off the new album which will be free to download in 2012. Hard work but fun. I wouldn't mind making films for a living, obviously without micro managing executives. I'm in it, acting like a hyperactive nutter, hehe, and I'm doing the compositing and VFX/CG for it. Its not a seriously CG heavy thing, just a few stills spliced in with footage in conjunction with some colour grading.

The shoots are interesting in the respect that they usually take place early in the morning in the freezing cold every day.

The video itself will have an industrial/urban kind of setting in addition to an Oligarch who has unlimited power. It may also feature a robed evil monk type figure as well as shots of war/catastrophe/doom etc, as this is what the song is about more or less, a kind of global apocalyptic scenario fuelled by the greed and ambitions of the world's elite classes and the inability of people to alter the course as societies walk down the path towards nuclear war due to economic stagnation. Its also about how the best laid plans, even with huge resources at one's disposal are ultimately at the mercy of random unanticipated events which can derail them. Its a song which against the idea of concentrated power and the distortion of law to serve individual interests at the expense of the public.

OhioProg announces the addition of Glass Hammer and Kinetic Element to the OhioProg 2012 festival line-up.

Glass Hammer is a symphonic-progressive rock band from the USA. Multi-instrumentalists Steve Babb and Fred Schendel formed the band in 1992 and will be celebrating their 20th anniversary at OhioProg 2012. The band recently released their 14th studio album Cor Cordium which is a follow-up to last year's highly acclaimed If. Glass Hammer is certainly one of the most well-known and highly regarded progressive rock acts over the last 20 years and will be featured as a headliner alongside FM, Nightingale and Arena. They will play ahead of FM on Saturday, September 8, 2012.

You can listen to two tracks from Glass Hammer on the OhioProg Soundcloud and/or the Glass Hammer artist page. "Nothing Box" from their latest Cor Cordium and "If the Stars" from last year's If.

Kinetic Element hail from Richmond, Virginia and released their debut album Powered by Light in 2009. The band formed as an outlet to perform the solo material of composer and keyboard player Mike Visaggio. The group quickly created their own identity and began playing alongside some of today's foremost progressive rock acts including Circa and IZZ. Kinetic Element will perform in the first slot on Sunday, September 9, 2012. The Kinetic Element artist page will be updated with audio tracks soon.
