I've decided that I'm going to feature a particular album on the Woody's A Girl page for each month of 2012. I'm starting with Sour, which contains some of my earliest written songs/recordings. It doesn't have many of my personal faves, but it does have the odd highlight.

Tracklist is as follows, with a * denoting featured tracks for the month:

1. Happiness (Demo) 2:39 (3)
2. Shitty Pasta (Demo) 4:04 (1)
3. Here We Stand* 2:42 (5)
4. Stupid* 2:47 (2)
5. Good Mourning Song* 2:31 (5)
6. Fun At Home (Demo) 2:20 (1)
7. My Apology* 2:39 (9)
8. Burn This Need* 2:31 (12)
9. Debutantes* 1:54 (11)
10. Instrumental (End The Story) 2:33 (2)
11. Here We Stand (Demo) 3:09 (3)
12. Stupid (Demo) 2:47 (2)

I've also decided (tentatively) that I won't be publishing any new music to Last.fm during 2012. I will be writing a lot of it, and recording too, but the only new material anyone will see is on YouTube (videos for existing songs, which I will link to from my Last.fm page). My plan for 2012 music-wise is to write and record a new song per week. This will give me 52 new songs by year's end. In a word, yikes! But also, ooooh. And wheee.

Yes, so while I work on new stuff, which will be housed under the temporary album title of CHRYSALIS (because I'm doing this project as part of The Chrysalis Experiment) I will be featuring old stuff. Fun times!

Questions? Comments? Utterances about how little you care? :)

Making a music video for the song Citadel of Sorrow off the new album which will be free to download in 2012. Hard work but fun. I wouldn't mind making films for a living, obviously without micro managing executives. I'm in it, acting like a hyperactive nutter, hehe, and I'm doing the compositing and VFX/CG for it. Its not a seriously CG heavy thing, just a few stills spliced in with footage in conjunction with some colour grading.

The shoots are interesting in the respect that they usually take place early in the morning in the freezing cold every day.

The video itself will have an industrial/urban kind of setting in addition to an Oligarch who has unlimited power. It may also feature a robed evil monk type figure as well as shots of war/catastrophe/doom etc, as this is what the song is about more or less, a kind of global apocalyptic scenario fuelled by the greed and ambitions of the world's elite classes and the inability of people to alter the course as societies walk down the path towards nuclear war due to economic stagnation. Its also about how the best laid plans, even with huge resources at one's disposal are ultimately at the mercy of random unanticipated events which can derail them. Its a song which against the idea of concentrated power and the distortion of law to serve individual interests at the expense of the public.

Anyone who knows anything about The Home Guard knows just how high Queen and The Beatles are up our influence list. In the last couple of weeks, we've seen the 20th anniversary of Freddie Mercury's death and the 10th of George Harrison's passing. So, what better time to commemorate two of our all-time musical heroes?

First, we recorded a cover of Nevermore, an obscure album track from 1974's Queen II. Our version can be found here if you'd like to add it to your library, or you could just watch the vid:

Then we released our version of I Want to Tell You, one of George's tracks on Revolver. Again, our cover can be found here, or more conveniently here:

As you can tell, we've taken a few liberties with the instrumentation of both, but hopefully you like them all the same.

From Progressive Rock and Progressive Metal E-Zine. I should note Eoin Leonard plays bass on Ho-Down.

http://www.progressiverockbr.com/previews2011.htm

"THE CASSINI PROJEKT - "Blind Vision"
The Cassini Projekt (with “k”) is a one-man band hailing from Dublin, the U.K. The only integrant is Alex Mc Donnell (guitars, piano, keyboards, drums, bass, and vocals). Hats off for him, he has the right Rock attitude. Mc Donnell and his The Cassini Projekt tries to create music without boundaries, making use of every musical genre, and has the hunger for experimentation, having fun during his own musical journey. Mc Donnell has the most different influences, and is addicted to “The Mars Volta”, “Radiohead”, “Queen”, “The Darkness”, “Nine Inch Nails”, “Charlotte Hatherley”, “Led Zeppelin”, “The Prodigy”, “At the Drive-In”, “Coldplay”, “Goldfrapp”, “Opeth”, “Animals as Leaders”, “Badly Drawn Boy”, “Dragonforce”, “Pulp”, “Yeah Yeah Yeahs”, “Interpol”, and “Tool”.

Somehow, he mixed everything inside himself, and through his particular point of view, produced a bunch of the weirdest and crazy songs that I have ever listened to. Mc Donnell managed to record all his ideas on a self-made CDR titled “Blind Vision” (2008, “Firebird Records”).

Defying a conventional Tag, his music is unlimited by any borders, and may amalgamate within a single composition the most diverging tendencies, from Metal and Punk to Progressive, Pop-Rock, Space-Rock and Experimental Music. The 9 tracks of “Blind Vision” are really amusing, and some are long, clocking around 6 to 8 minutes. The opening track - “Cold Stare“ – is a mix of Hard Rock riffs inserted within a Space-Rock frame. “Long Time Coming“ is like a melodic Progressive-Punk, recalling “The Jam” and “The Clash”, but stuffed with guitar effects. “Take it All“ is a Techno-Trance-Punk-Funk, busting radioactive energy to all sides, and spilling out crazy “Hendrixian” guitars. “Ho-Down“ is a melodic Post-Punk ballad that recalls me of “The Cure”, while the Alternative Rock of “Blind Vision“ brings light guitars that are quite like “Radiohead”. “Hell’s a Place in Mexico“ is a Punk-Metal that blends the explosiveness of “Nine Inch Nails” with a middle section bringing Mexican guitars in a NWOBHM-styled guitar technique that reminds me of Metal band “Satan”. “Whiteblood“ is a Noisy-Experimental-Metal track, while “Fail“ contrasts with it by being almost a Folk ballad (maybe an influence of “Charlotte Hatherley”). “Fight to the End“ is a Post-Metal experimental-cosmic-psychedelic track that pushes all Universe closer to the Big Crunch.

With a noisy, harsh, yet original Alternative-Garage-Punk-Metal-Progressive sonority, The Cassini Projekt is not recommended for the regular Progressive Rock lover, but for those who like to listen to amusing crazy music that extrapolates all patterns of normality. If you like “Nine Inch Nails”, “The Prodigy”, “Goldfrapp”, “Animals as Leaders”, “Badly Drawn Boy”, “Pulp”, “Yeah Yeah Yeahs” and “Interpol”, give it a try. Only band member involved in The Cassini Projekt is: Alex Mc Donnell – Vocals, Guitars, Piano, Keyboards, Drums, and Bass... (Comments by Marcelo Trotta)."

She released several tracks under her former name, thecocknbullkid.

The end of this period was marked with a name change and the release of 7" One Eye Closed (Moshi Moshi, 8 Nov 2010), this week's recommended track and my favourite from her debut album, Adulthood.

The track is upbeat, positive and cheerful, with a catchy chorus and a dancey beat. The video is a little silly, but creative with it. Pure pop at its finest.

Her upcoming gig on the 7th of October is brought to you by Last.fm Presents Live Fridays, a new series of nights curated by Last.fm's users, based on what's been listened to on their hype charts.

Last.fm group Last.fm Win Stuff is running an exclusive competition from 14 - 29 September to win a VIP package to meet CocknBullKid.
