Location: Egg With the venue undergoing refurbishment, Egg London will be transforming the cavernous and intimate surroundings with extended dancefloors, re-jigged smoking areas and world class sound systems building on the venue’s endearing qualities. Circus themselves hit the same figure last year, and consequently has pulled together a world first to crown the accolade – all night long set from Laurent Garnier and Yousef. Arguably the most loved of all the guests to play at Circus in its litany of residencies over the years, Garnier rightfully remains revered across the full spectrum of dance music. He retired his LBS project last year at both Circus Liverpool and London, and his history of extended sets for Circus stretches as far back as 2004 and numbers several epoch defining moments. Special occasions call for special measures, and few can match Laurent’s ability to bring poignancy and emotion to the forefront via his extended journeys through sound. In fact only one man has been capable of doing that at Circus consistently – Yousef. Like Laurent he too has commanded the attention of the Circus dancefloor for the entire evening on numerous occasions, joyous excursions through every facet of house and techno for a fully panoramic insight into not only his musical personality, but that of the club itself. Indeed the two have been part of the more endearing memories of the Circus aural history, Yousef dropping Giorgio Moroder and Phil Oakey’s ‘Electric Dreams to end a five hour set to a sea of smiles in the Theatre of the Masque, Garnier cavorting through an impromptu Nirvana tribute on the ten year anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death. Both posses that element of unpredictability and innate understanding of the magic of music to deliver a truly mouth-watering, Circus styled, tribute to Egg London on their monumental achievement.

Location: Fort Adams State Park Folk music has been a presence in Newport since 1959, when the Newport Folk Festival was founded by George Wein. Backed by board members Pete Seeger, Theodore Bikel, Oscar Brand, and Albert Grossman, the Festival became renowned for introducing a number of performers who went on to become major stars, most notably Joan Baez (who appeared as an unannounced guest of Bob Gibson in 1959), and Bob Dylan, whose first Newport appearance, as a guest of Joan Baez in 1963, is generally regarded as his premiere national performance. Always a step ahead, the Festival cultivated a broad range of folk music, and continues to stretch the boundaries to this day. In the 1960s, there were famous performances by Johnny Cash and Howlin’ Wolf, artists usually described as representing country music and blues respectively. The festival was associated with the 1960s Blues Revival, where artists “lost” since the 1940s (e.g. Delta blues singers) were “rediscovered”. And in the 80′s and 90′s, the festival brought in reggae, rock, and indie artists to broaden the Americana landscape. Much of the history of the Newport Folk Festival has been preserved through a rich source of recordings. Murray Lerner directed the 1967 film Festival based on the 1963-1965 festivals, and there are 15 recorded albums of the festival from 1959 through 1990. Most recently, NPR has been on site to capture live broadcasts and streaming performances from the web. Since 1959, we have been serving true musical omnivores, fans who crave innovation but appreciate tradition. The majority of stages are inside huge tents - insurance against the Netherlands climate - with the main stage's tent, Alpha, being approximately the size of a premiership football team's pitch. The festival is held in Biddinghuizen, at Spijk en Bremerberg, adjacent to the Walibi Holland amusement park.
