Junkie XL has a new Single: More. But of all Versions the More (Junk O Rock Remix) is the best. Most people should know Junkie XL from the Elvis Remix of A Little Less Conversation.

Shining from Peace Orchestra was downloadable from last.fm before, but now it is only (fully) streamable... Still a really great song - and the best of the album.

Just chilling...

I just tried my birthday present - the 13 years old Whisky. Great stuff. Smells brilliant and tastes just like... well... not heaven but certainly the next best thing.

Beside the Whisky I am listening to Overlook and now Rob Dougan. Great "smoky" voice. I can't stop listening to him. The whole album Furious Angels completely consists of magnificient songs! Except for the pause, which is... well only a pause...

If you only know Clubbed to Death you are missing big time!

wannabeadored - Winston, Favorit Parker, Miyagi

Gestern im Cube fand die wannabeadored Reihe mit drei unbaknnten Bands ihren Anfang. Dabei waren Winston, Favorit Parker und Miyagi, welche auch in dieser Reihenfolge auftraten.

Als ich im Cube ankam spielte bereits Winston. Leider war ich weder von Winston, noch von der folgenden Band Favorit Parker sonderlich begeistert. Das lag aber weniger an den Künsten der beiden aus Wuppertal angereisten Bands, sondern daran dass die Anlage knarzte und kräftig überdreht war. Hat das Cube keine Soundtechniker, oder was ist da schief gelaufen?

Als Miyagi auf die Bühne traten war die Soundprobleme plötzlich weg. Entsprechend viel besser war auch der Auftritt. Da machte wieder es Spaß zu tanzen.

Nachdem Miyagi nach dem Auftritt noch ein paar CDs loswerden konnte, legte der DJ dann auf. Interessanterweise passte die Musik nicht wirklich zu dem Punk-lastigen Konzerten, aber gut. Als dann tief in der Nacht erst Techno kam und dann auf Hip-Hop abgeschwungen wurde, wars mir dann doch zu bunt.

Alles in allem hat sich der Abend aber definitiv gelohnt.

YAMU #2 - Yet another Music update (in german)

Momentan läuft bei mir ein 79 minütiges Mashup von Eamezey. Mashups sind eigentlich nichts, was ich sonderlich häufig höre, aber witzig finde ich sie schon. Bei 1live gab es eine Zeit lang (heute auch noch?) die Tradition am Jahresende ein Mashup mit allen "Hits" des Jahres zu senden. (Gibt es die eigentlich irgendwo als MP3/CD/wasauchimmer zu haben?)

Im Vergleich dazu ist dieser Mashup recht wild und wechselt manchmal recht abrupt die Musikrichtung. Trotzdem aber recht witzig für nebenher. Und wann hört man schon mal 120-130 Lieder in nur 79 Minuten?

Abgesehen davon habe ich die Band Amity Lane und deren Vorgänger TRUSTcompany entdeckt. Beide irgendwo bei hard rock, hardcore oder metal einzuordnen. Dann höre ich noch die punk rocker The Black Maria hoch und runter und die Hardcore Band Edgewater steht auch hoch im Kurs.

Zu guter Letzt gibt es noch die Metal Band Disturbed, welche mir noch nicht bekannt war - bis ich einige Lieder (insbesondere Down With the Sickness und Ten Thousand Fists) aus den Clubs/Schuppen wieder erkannte. Endlich weiß ich von wem die Musik kommt.

Es waren also recht Hardcore/Metal/Punk Rock lastige Wochen...

A new meme - this time to calculate the mainstreamity of a person. Because the background of the calculation seems unclear to some lets take a look at it:

1. Sum the weekly listeners of your top 20.
2. Divide by 20
3. Divide by the number of people listening to Radiohead

Ok lets do that for my case:

So this is the percentage of average amount of listeners of my top-20 groups compared to listeners of Radiohead.

Still there is the Question out there: Why Radiohead? Lets take a look into the Global Artist Charts. My guess would be Radiohead was at place 1 at the time of calculation. To update the meme I should take the current place 1: Red Hot Chili Peppers, but actually they have the most listeners, but not the most plays - which are mislabeled on the bands pages as listeners. So the correct update would actually be The Beatles with 678,181 plays.

That would give me a mainstreamity of 29,2%.

The problem with this: The only way to actually reach 100% would be only listening to The Beatles, no other band. Not once. So the really way would be taking the average of all top 20 places: 373,852.8. That would actually give me 53% mainstreamity. This number is still not 100% correct, because it is based on the top 20 of listeners, not top 20 of plays (which last.fm does not provide).

Chaos Abend bei der Hurricane/Southside Clubtour

Am 18. Februar fand im Ringlokschuppen die Hurricane Southside Clubtour Part I statt. Dabei waren die Bands: Bromheads Jacket, Plain White T's, The Films und OK Go.

Zu den "Garage Rock" Tönen von Bromheads Jacket (einzige britische Band) stelle ich fest, dass die Kaffeemaschine am Tresen aus ist - und bestelle mir zum Aufwärmen ein kaltes Bier. Warm will man das ja dann auch nicht haben. Endlich im eigentlich Konzertsaal angekommen muss ich feststellen, dass noch weniger Besucher als bei The Rifles anwesend sind. Aber bei einem Ticketpreis von €13,85 war das ja fast klar.

Die Bromheads können aber weder mich, noch den Rest des Publikums wirklich begeistern. In der Beschreibung war etwas ähnliches zu den Arctic Monkeys angekündigt. Also bitte. So leid es mir tut - meilenweit entfernt - nett anzuhöhren maximal. Und ich bin so oder noch nicht "aufgewärmt". Um 20:15 dann ein Lebenszeichen von Miriam - aus einer Telefonzelle! In 20 Minuten ist sie da! 20:30 ist dann passend Umbaupause - nur weit und breit keine Miriam oder Japanerin zu sehen.

Kurz darauf wird der amerikanische Teil des Abends eingeläutet - es betreten die Plain White T's aus Chicago die Bühne und ich postiere mich am Ein-/Ausgang um sowohl ein Auge auf den Eingang halten zu können, als auch das Konzert verfolgen zu können. Von dieser Band war mir sogar vorher schon das Lied Hate (I Really Don't Like You) bekannt - woher auch immer. Um kurz vor 21 Uhr dann wieder ein Anruf von Miriam - sie findet den Ringlokschuppen nicht. Ich lasse mein Ticket ungültig werden (ich habe glücklicherweise eh noch drei Tickets) und renne raus. Gerade als ich den Smart erkenne, erklingt im Hintergrund dumpf das bereits erwähnte Lied... Aber das ist einem auch egal, wenn man nach einem halben Jahr eine alte Freundin wieder begrüßen darf. Ausserdem waren die Jungs zwar irgendwie nicht schlecht, aber auch nicht wirklich gut.

Kaum sind wir wieder im Warmen, schon gibt es die nächste Umbaupause. Bei The Films fällt Miriam dann auf, dass die Band ja gar nicht Deutsch singt... Ich muss hingegen feststellen, dass ich den harten britischen Dialekt der Rifles wesentlich besser verstanden habe als die Amis auf der Bühne. Die sollen mal richtig Englisch sprechen lernen! The Films gefallen mir persöhnlich ganz gut und ich entschließe mich später die CD zu kaufen. Die Zeit verfliegt und die nächste Umbaupause steht an. Die Kommunikation mit Natsuko beschränkt sich leider auf ein paar wenige Brocken Englisch und Gestikulieren - bzw von Miriam übersetzen lassen.

OK Go geht auf die Bühne, es lächelt 70er Jahre Tapete (ähnlich zum Musikvideo zu Do What You Want) von der frisch aufgebauten Leinwand. Die Konfettikanonen unterstreichen wer hier der Hauptact ist. Den meisten wird OK Go bekannt sein von dem Musikvideo Here It Goes Again, indem die vier Musiker auf Laufbändern einen witzigen Tanz hinlegen. Mitten während des Konzertes überraschte die Band damit, einfach mal mitten ins Publikum zu gehen. Sie fordern alle auf sich hinzusetzen und machen Lagerfeuerstimmung. Nicht nur ich war überrascht - Natsuko und Miriam waren auch sichtlich begeistert.

Bekannt wurde OK Go ursprünglich mit ihrem für $10 im Garten eines Bandmitglieds produzierten Musikvideo A Million Ways. Die dort gezeigte Choreografie ist inzwischen ihr Markenzeichen und als krönender Abschluss des Abends wurde dann der Tanz auch auf der Bühne live gezeigt. Sehr witzig. So viel optische Gimmicks hätte ich nie von einem Konzert für €14 erwartet. Der Eintritt hat sich gelohnt!

The Rifles Concert

Seit längerem wieder mal ein Konzert. Am Dienstag 13. Februar spielten The Rifles in Bielefeld im Ringlokschuppen.

Martin bekam die zweite Karte und als wir im halbvollen Ringlokschuppen aufschlugen, spielte bereits die Vorband Fertig, Los!. Eine Deutschrockband ala Juli oder Sportfreunde Stiller - dummerweise stehe ich ja nicht sonderlich auf deutsche Texte. Deren Lied Links, Rechts, Links gefällt mir als einziges besser. Ich habe allerdings trotzdem die EP Den Westwind ernenn' ich zu meinem Friseur gekauft; denn erstens ist der Titel zu geil und zweitens die Bassistin Julia zu süß um der Band nicht ein wenig Umsatz und hier etwas Publicity zu bescheren. Wer Juli / Sporties mag, der wird dieser Band wahrscheinlich auch etwas abgewinnen können.

The Rifles kam nach der üblichen Umbaupause endlich auf die Bühne und sofort flippten die ganzen Briten vor uns aus und das Moshpit breitete sich aus. Sehr geiles Konzert. Meine beiden Favoriten Narrow Minded Social Club und Local Boy kamen allerdings erst in der Zugabe und die Bude war natürlich schon viel länger am brennen.

Alles in allem ein sehr gelungener Abend!

YAMU - Yet another music update

It's amazing. I can't stop playing Right Where It Belongs. I'm usually not into industrial, but this song is just sooo brilliant, that I just rushed out and bought the Limited Edition of With Teeth. The CD is good, but none of the other songs can really compare to Right Where It Belongs. Every Day Is Exactly The Same is the second best song, imo.

Anyways. I also strongly dig the album The Eraser. I play the songs Harrowdown Hill and Black Swan like at least 5 times a day.

Also very high on my playlist is Animal Alpha from Norway. The song Bundy is imo the best from Pheromones and the CD is definatly worth buying. And that is my problem! I haven't found even one shop where I could buy this CD or even any of the EPs from Animal Alpha!

A band I was recommended is WinterKids. It seems they gain popularity in the veryUK quickly. Actually I think they are overhyped. They are not bad, but the song Somebody Elses Clothes is the only one I really found catchy. On the other hands I said Maxïmo Park was overhyped when they were new.

Another discovery of mine is the song Do You Read Me. Ghinzu is a belgium alternative rock band and I definately recommend their CD Blow.

I still haven't stopped listening to Three Days Grace.
