After over two years of membership on this site, I have amassed quite the large library of artists, and over 100,000 scrobbles (110,785). However, I now feel it is time to start my charts anew, due to the great changes in my music taste and how I listen to music in general. When I began using this site, my library probably consisted of roughly 20 artists, in total. Because I had so little music available at the time, some of those artists received a MONSTROUS amount of plays, and to this day many of them still hold significant positions on my charts (Rise Against, Anti Flag, Pearl Jam, STP, Metallica, and the country musicians to name a few), even though I dislike some of those groups now, or don't listen to them nearly as much as I used to. My taste has expanded greatly, which is evident in my total artist count (1,213), and it will continue to do so. As I listen to more artists, my plays will be divided between them even more, and the chances of those artists gaining a spot on my charts that represents my feelings towards them becomes slimmer and slimmer.

So I am starting over. I am kind of torn in this decision, as I do admit to being obsessed with statistics, and it is hard to delete everything and lose the years worth of data I have collected. Also, I like being able to see how my taste has changed. Unfortunately, my charts have become so bogged down by the older artists that very rarely do those changes make themselves visible without digging deep into the depths of my charts.

Some of the old artists I still enjoy greatly. AIC, Nirvana, and Jethro Tull, for example (3 of my top 4) remain my top 3 of all time, but even they (especially the latter two) have incredibly bloated play counts. And those play counts don't even represent them well as individual groups, as back when I first joined, I had roughly 5-10 songs by each band, and those songs in turn have gathered an immense amount of scrobbles, even if they are not my favourites by the band.

I am not doing this to hide my old taste, I am in fact quite proud of my taste, and my music has always meant a lot to me. I simply wish to adapt my charts to my new listening habits, and make my real taste more noticeable to those on this site.

I have a few screenshots, which are likely just in case I decide to look back at this post and see the things I used to listen to so excessively.

RIP Scrobbles
August 12th, 2008-December 15th, 2010
