I love it when you discover a seemingly obscure corner of music, or find a genre that you never knew existed, yet embodies a style of music you adore. It happens quite alot, but particularly assisted by LastFM. I'll be looking at artists, their connections, history etc... and I'll suddenly find an entire cult following involving some of my favourit music. How did this slip by me?! was my first though.

So looking at Queens of the Stone Age, I see that they are mantled stoner rock, never heard of it, so I look it up - Kyussat the forefront, look at them and predominantly mentioned is The Desert Sessions. I have then discovered an amazing slice of rock history. Just like that, hidden before, now adored. A big ranch in the desert where Kyuss, QOTSA, even Manson members met to just make music. "Creosote" from Volumes 9 & 10 was written by Dean Ween and Alain Johannes on the ranch's front porch within four minutes of meeting each other! What great times that must have been. All the songs are excellent, yet so unknown in a way. So I write this to signpost the phenomenon.

I also now understand QOTSA's name!
