The orchestral rock pioneers come back to Cardiff to launch new album 'The Quiet Lamb' . This show at Clwb Ifor Bach forms part of an extensive and no doubt dynamic tour of the UK.

Her Name Is Calla return this year with a new full-length album named 'The Quiet Lamb' on Denovali Records. The album sees the band fully immersed into their song writing, making clear steps forward from their highly acclaimed previous album 'The Heritage'.

Described by Drowned In Sound as "one of the UK's most forward thinking bands", Her Name Is Calla are known for their impressive live shows full of emotion, explosions of noise and passages of the quietest, most gentle harmonies. They've been compared to Radiohead, GSYBE!, I Like Trains, A Silver Mt. Zion, Codeine and Explosions in the Sky.

Based around as core unit of five members, the band wields a multitude of instruments, from drums and guitar to recorders and synthesis, from violin and trombone to vocals and harmonica. The resulting sound is dense but controlled.

'The Quiet Lamb' is the result of years of planning and one years recording and mixing. Stretched over the course of 75 minutes, the new album finds the band at their most passionate to date taking the listener through a journey of ten songs, each one a part of a whole.

"Her Name Is Calla are masters of the slow build, but their approach never seems formulaic as you are never quite sure exactly when the crash is going to come. Timeless and ageless." God Is In The TV Zine

Support comes from:

Meilir(full band show)
http://www.myspace.com/meilirmusic

Meilir plays a special full band show in support of his forthcoming mini album 'Cellar Songs' set for release in September.

An honest&intimate musician, Meilir Tomos, now based in Cardiff, but originally form the hills of Flintshire in North Wales creates melody driven songs using experimental elements & unconventional instrumentation, from the African Karrimba to a box filled with gravel. Meilir’s layered orchestration and innovative approach to song writing creates an individual style & sound engaging audiences with an exciting & unmissable live performance.

‘Bydd Wych’ the debut bi-lingual Ep by Meilir has recently been released to very enthusiastic responses & reviews. The record was crafted with the upmost care & attention and the result is a stunning collection of six beautifully crafted songs.

"Meilir is quickly grooming a back catalogue of timeless, evocative and richly alternative folk songs." Miniature Music Press

HAIL! THE PLANES
http://www.myspace.com/hailtheplanes

Hail! The Planes is a post-folk band from Cardiff. Things began in October 2007 when four friends got together and made a folky racket in a small room above an estate agents. The band is made up of Holly who plays violin and sings, David who plays guitar and sings, Mark who plays bass and sings and Robert who plays drums and doesn't sing.

They are influenced by instrumental bands like Do Make Say Think and Dirty Three, and also more vocally-oriented indie like Broken Social Scene and Low. We recently recorded in session on Bethan Elfyn's BBC Radio 1 Introducing show, the result of which you can listen to on our MySpace page.

Tracks from the "Tree Creeper" EP have also been played been played on Adam Walton's BBC Radio Wales show, and by John Kennedy on his Xfm X-posure show (on which we were a featured artist).

"I've been won over I hope you will be too, as they certainly are the most exciting band in Wales right now" - Bethan Elfyn

"Post-rock collides with folk in an intrepid romance. It's beautiful, smart and lyrical.

The Melting Ice Caps is the solo guise of former Luxembourg frontman David Shah. Though this is his second single, it’s the first one to be entirely self-produced. It’s released as a free download through the God Is In The TV Singles Club, Download it now.

ASIDE -THE MELTING ICE CAPS- SELFISH BACHELOR
http://www.godisinthetvzine.co.uk/mp3s/selfish%20bachelor.mp3

Lead track Selfish Bachelor is a swirling, oddly uplifting marriage of dirty guitars, pulsating electronica and perhaps the most candid lyric David has ever put his name to. Meanwhile, b-side How To Appear Well-Adjusted is chamber pop par excellence, with violins and accordions wrapped around a blackly comic guide to surviving daily life.

To receive the B-side 'How To Appear Well-Adjusted sign up as a GIITTV user here http://www.godisinthetvzine.co.uk/users/registration_signup.php This will be exclusive to users for the first month, before being avaliable to all there after

The Melting Ice Caps – Single#2
1.

New Cardiff-based act Joy Of Sex release their debut self-titled EP through their Robot Architect label on the 18th of August. It will be accompanied by a free download on the same day.

Joy of Sex are a new three-piece from Cardiff, two boys and a girl, with a drum machine, stand-up drums and three-way vocals. They agree on several things including short songs, rhythm, repetition and noise.

Combining menacing cut-up rhythms with triple-barrelled vocal interplay that switches from sinister to playful; a unique concoction that's reminiscent of the taut art-punk dynamics of Wire. They hint at the electro post punk of PiL and share a kinship with fellow Cardiffian's The Victorian English Gentlemen's Club.

It's form meeting function. Newness, not novelty. Equality. Clang, scrape and bang. That is the Joy Of Sex.
December, Month Of Plenty opens with a chorus of plaintive refrains, before rumbling along pavements of twitching bass and drums. Serrated guitars bleed like a stream of consciousness into a chanting chorus reminiscent of Mission Of Burma's finer moments. Short and sharp, clocking in at around the two minute mark.

You can download the track December, Month of Plenty for free here:
www.samu.co.uk/sound&visiondownloads.html
www.myspace.com/joyofsex

it’s spiky, minimalist, arty and goes off in unexpected directions and the interplay between the 3 vocalists brings to mind a fusion of Prinzhorn Dance School and Wire.
Subba-cultcha

Illustrating that there's a hell of a lot more to the South Wales music scene than just a sea of generic post-hardcore and metal, Cardiff-based trio Joy of Sex are one of the most intriguing propositions to emerge from the Welsh capital for some time. Blending three-pronged vocals, drum machines and taut post-punk guitars, listening to their self-titled debut EP it's not hard to imagine Joy of Sex becoming firm fashionista favourites in the not too distant future...no mere one trick ponies.
Rock Midgets

Art Brut and The Fall and Wire and jagged smiles and
thought we had all worked out... everything is good, nothing ruined, a
fine fine demo.
Organ art magazine

Joy Of SexWireThe FallYoung Marble Giantsvictorian english gentlemens clubRobot Architect

GIITTV singles club releases My First Radio's "Progress" as a free digital download on the 18th of June.

Kettering and Corby based four piece My First Radio release "Progress" as free download on GIITTV singles club. The track comes as a precursor to a full physical single released on Series 8 records later in the year.Bside "My Secret Plan" will be avaliable to GIITTV zine users for the first month before being made freely avaliable to all there after.

In a live setting My First Radio combine the fragile atmospherics of Engineers, Mogwai and Redjetson with the mashed up effects pedal punk of Bloc Party and add the vocal kick in the nuts of Six By Seven and latter day Primal Scream. You could call it shoegazing with size twelves. In this context "Progress" is somewhat disarming, catching you totally off guard with its wistful, emotionally charged vocals which ache over a gentle piano motif eventually rising to a searing vocoder soaked ephiphany. The bside "My Secret Plan" combines knowing vocal interplay with spiralling shoegaze fuzz that smacks you about the face and lets you know who’s in charge here...

"...fast moving indie band." - The Guardian

"[My First Radio] launch you skywards on a rocket co piloted by Muse and Slowdive and fuelled by lashings of spiralling guitars... spacey, shoe gaze majesty..." - hearthefuture.org.uk

Click here to get your downloads on the 18th of June:
http://www.godisinthetvzine.co.uk/content/content_detail.php?id=2460&type=Features
http://www.godisinthetvzine.co.uk
http://www.myspace.com/myfirstradio
MyFirstRadiomy first radioProgressSlowdiveSix.By.SevenBloc PartyPrimal ScreamJamesTime.Space.Repeathttp://www.godisinthetvzine.co.uk/content/content_detail.php?id=2460&type=Features
