So about 20 days into the new year, I've managed to compile a list of albums I really liked from last year that I'm perfectly happy with and will be for about 2 months before discovering something from last year that's like 40 million times better or some shit. Like before, if I missed something or you just have something to say about this list, just say so in the comments section.

10. Orkan - Vintersorg

9. Pneuma - Hail Spirit Noir

8. Lure Of The Occult - Backyard Mortuary

7. Bury the Light - Pharaoh

6. Tales of the Weird - Paradox

5. To the End - Orden Ogan

4. Deathammer - Asphyx (oh wow an album I was heavily anticipating since last year actually impressed me, how fucking quaint)

3. CVI - Royal Thunder

2. Silverthorn - Kamelot

1. The Stars Bode You Farewell - Bound by Entrails

There were plenty of albums that came close - Bakken's "Death Of A Hero" had some great fucking songs, but it had a few very weak moments that stopped it short of being #10 on this list. Same with Dawnbringer's "Into The Lair Of The Sun God"... it had a very strong start but a weak end. Anaal Nathrakh's "Vanitas" was also pretty good, but I don't know, it just wasn't as enjoyable as a whole to me as those in the top ten. Ditto for Overkill's "The Electric Age" and Enslaved's "RIITIIR". Finally, DragonForce's "The Power Within" had a very enjoyable first half, but a weak as fuck second half. While that's been typical of Dragonforce since Inhuman Rampage, their sound went into a different direction with the new one - a more typical power metal direction if you will, but it seemed like they could make good typical power metal until the second half just bored me to sleep.

What to seek out in 2013 (going off of the Wikipedia page):
Amorphis - Circle

Black Sabbath 13 (tentative title I assume)

Circle II Circle - Seasons Will Fall (I'll also get around to listening to everything else they've done... gotta do it sometime, I love Savatage for fucks sake)

Helloween - Straight Out Of Hell

Portal - Vexovoid

Sodom - TBA
Suffocation - Pinnacle Of Bedlam

Voivod - Target Earth

Kind of like my 2007 list, but hopefully not as nooby haha

But knowing me, I'm probably missing some big essential album that everybody jizzed their pants to - speak up if that's the case, and tell me what it is. Most likely, I probably didn't listen to it. You may notice that I've listed mostly power/progressive albums. It's not that I've grown cynical with extreme metal; I just liked the power/progressive albums more than the extreme metal ones.

10. ...grey heaven fall - Grey Heaven Fall

9. By the Hands of the Devil - Satan's Host

8. Heavenly Ecstasy - Pagan's Mind

7. Transformation - Sonne Adam

6. Outer Isolation - Vektor

5. Blind Ride - Hibria

4. Towards the Megalith - Disma

3. Iconoclast - Symphony X

2. Welcome To The Morbid Reich - Vader

1. Anubis Gate - Anubis Gate

What to seek out in 2012 (going off of the Wikipedia page):
Aria - Aradiokaos (unsure if actually happening)
Asphyx - Deathhammer

Destroyer 666 - Siege
DragonForce

Firewind

Gorguts
Gorod

Incantation

Kalmah

Mors Principium Est

Omen - Hammer Damage
Overkill

Primal Fear - Unbreakable
Possessed

Sigh - In Somniphobia
Spawn of Possession - Incurso

Testament - The Dark Roots Of Earth

Unisonic
Unleashed

Wintersun - Time (at least I would HOPE that it comes out!!)

...I seriously considered these the top 10 best albums of 2007 as far as metal's concerned. Oh my fucking god... ahhahahahaahahah

10. The Way Of The Fist - Five Finger Death Punch Pretty good Groove Metal, though the lyrics are kind of bad and cliche (I mean, the ending of one of the songs ends with the vocallist saying fuck like 4 times). Oh well, it's a kickass debut by a new Groove Metal band. The guitar work is at least a lot like the Groove Metal formular Pantera left behind before splitting up, mixed with the formular Machine Head left behind before The Burning Red. Standout tracks include Ashes, Salvation, White Knuckles and Death Before Dishonor. Pretty good debut album, though if this wasn't a debut, I wouldn't be so impressed.

Well, first off, I find it funny that I spelled formula with an R. Secondly, I find it even funnier that I thought this was good. Looking back, I think it's shitty tuff guy RARARARAR I'M SO TOUGH I'M SO TOUGH I'M SO TOUGH (and I think there was a softer song, which is the same thing but replace TOUGH with GAY).

Lastly, it sucks donkey penis.

9. The Last Kind Words - DevilDriver
Looks like DevilDriver improved even more from The Fury of Our Maker's Hand, which was an improvement over their self-titled. This Melodeath-influenced Groove Metal band manage to intensify their riffs, drum patterns and vocals slightly, and Dez Fafara's high pitched screams aren't as irritating as they were before, though they can get on your nerves a bit still. What I don't really like is that some tracks are fillers (some tracks, though), and 1 track...just isn't as good as the rest (even worse than the fillers). I'm still putting this album as my 9th favorite of 2008 because of the tracks that aren't fillers and are good.

Devildriver? AHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH

Wait, hold on... "I'm still putting this album as my 9th favorite of 2008 because of the tracks that aren't fillers and are good." Oh man, English, what's that?

Melodeath-influence Groove Metal is just a stupid comment to make. It's not groove metal (it's metalcore, numbnuts) and it's only marginally influenced by melodeath.

I suppose, though, they did improve, so I can't be too hard here... okay, yes I can. AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

8. THREADS OF LIFE - Shadows Fall
This album starts very strong with solid guitar work, sweet drumming and a very good set of vocals from Brian Fair. Knowing this, the band ended up kind of repeating themselves as the album went. The Great Collapse...Filler, or a short and sweet piece? I'd say filler, as it's not very innovative or adding to the album (well, except that it opens the next track well, but I think the two tracks should've merged into 1). Oh well, when repetition deals with me, IT BETTER BE DAMN GOOD REPITITION! I'd say it's good, but gets slightly boring after some time. However, as repetitive as every track gets, they're still good (except for the filler song). I'd rate this higher, but because of this super kickass album they released called The Art Of Balance, well...I can't, because I'd expect more. Oh well...still good in it's own way. =D

One of the few albums I can still enjoy to this day. Shadows Fall isn't exactly a band I can get away from for too long.

lol @ comment regarding repetition. lol @ "innovative or adding to the album". And looking back, I actually much prefer this to The Art Of Balance... THAT had a lot of filler and otherwise mediocre songs.

7. Evernight - Battlelore
Wow, there's a chick in this band. =D But seriously, the chick (Kaiza Jhouhki) has a pretty good voice, which suits the quieter parts of this album well. Her voice can also do well in the not-so-heavy-but-still-heavy parts, but when it comes to the heaviest parts of this album, she better let Tomi Mykkanen take it from there until the crushing riffs of Jussi Rautio and Jyri Vahvanen calm down some. See, Mykkanen suits the heaviest parts well, because his vocal style is...yep, you guessed it, growling! Anyway, yeah, Rautio and Vahvenen's riffs are kind of crushing, and are able to switch between heavy and the middle (not soft). And during the soft moments, Maria's keyboard takes over. She isn't that bad with the old keyboard, but her real skill is within her flute playing. The times and tracks that the flute exists in escapes my mind right now, but I do know that they're kickass. The reason why this album isn't rated as high as it feels like it should be is because, other than some catchy lyrics, guitar riffs and bass lines (House of Heroes is a perfect example), the tracks aren't all that memorable. Half the tracks are kind of forgettable. The reason this album is here at all is because the tracks are good when you do listen to them, and also because the more memorable tracks stick to your head better.

Oh dear sweet Jesus, what the fuck kind of crack was I on? This is seriously one of the most boring albums I've ever listened to!

And oh wow, I actually thought that there were crushing riffs? The riffs are actually sterile!

The last sentence... just wow. 1) They're boring when you listen to them, and 2) none of them really stick inside your head.

6. Rise Of The Tyrant - Arch Enemy
Woo, another Metal band with a chick in it! Damn, she's got a set of lungs on her. Yeah, we all know her as...Angela Gossow! Normally, she's a very good growler, but in this album, they don't sound so great. They kind of remind me of Dani Filth's vocals, only deeper, and much better, but still not as good as what she could do in Anthems Of Rebellion. The guitar work is awesome, but (and I think this might just be the production of the album) they sound...well, they still sound good, but not as good as they should. =( I'd also say that about four tracks are about average in my books, because they just aren't as good as the rest of the songs. Might add that fillers should NOT exist...the 2:51 minute track Intermezzo Liberte should've merged with the 3:18 minute track Night Falls First, that way, we'd be done with the filler track, and just have 3 below-average tracks. I'd say it's half a step down from Doomsday Machine (or in Gossow's case, about 1 1/2 steps). But it's still a good album for this year, and the guitar riffs and drumming are still pretty sweet, though I'd say Doomsday Machine and Anthems have their better riffs.

I probably didn't do a decent job of describing Angela's growls. That comment is SORTA right, but a better way to describe it is this - THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF SOUND FILTERS!!!

The riffs themselves weren't bad, but I think I was meant to be referring to the production, which sounded like your typical modern day fluffy light sterile as fuck shit.

5. The Blackening - Machine Head
Wow! A couple of songs were asking to be skipped (Slanderous mostly, but sometimes, Now I Lay Thee Down gets skipped), but the rest are phenonemal. Some of the best Groove Metal since Pantera, though now they've proven that they're not Pantera with teen angst lyrics (though there's hints of those sorts of lyrics, but at least they're not overloaded with swearing compared to Through the Ashes of Empires was). How? 4 or 5 of their songs are at least 8 or 9 minutes long. They're not boring either, they're actually pretty entertaining! Actually, the only fault would be Slanderous. Just...mediocre at best, and nowhere near as good as the rest of The Blackening. Still, it's a pretty kick-fucking-ass album.

"kick-fucking-ass"? Seriously? Because whenever I listen to it, all I can think is "meh". The only remotely good songs are Now I Lay Thee Down (wow I used to skip that? silly me), Halo and Wolves, because they remian entertaining throughout their duration. The rest? zzzzzzzz

Oh, and nice segueway from lyrical themes to song lengths.

Oh, and I still think Slanderous isn't a good song.

4. Ascendence - Lord
This is some of Lord Tim's best work! Not joking either! Although this isn't the end-all be-all best album ever, this at least shuts up the people who think the Australian music scene is all...well, I bet the reader would know what I'm talking about. Well, Lord is like Demons & Wizards meets Iron Maiden. The songs are quite well executed, and I'm surprised Lord Tim hasn't been asked to join a Black Metal band or to boot Alexi Laiho out of Children of Bodom and get them back in the right track after hearing the song Limb From Limb. That's right folks, he doesn't just sing. He can shriek as well. Better than Alexi Laiho, hell, I think he's better than a fair amount of Black Metal vocalists (just him alone, too). And I have to say, his riffs are pretty sweet too. I'd say he's a better shredder than Yngwie Malmsteen, and a better singer too. But really, Lord Tim's riffs are sweet as and his solos, while a bit wankey, are fucking excellent. If there's anything wrong with the album, it's...probably the fact that the bass doesn't exist, plus Limb From Limb might turn people away from Lord/Dungeon as it has shrieking vocals. Plus, aside from the shrieks, Lord don't really take that many risks, they just stay within their comfort zone. But since their comfort zone is still kickass, I wouldn't really call that much of a problem, though a bit more experimentation would be good too.

I still like this album, but some of these comments make me feel like a complete donut.

For one thing, Lord Tim's harsh vocals actually aren't that good. They're okay, but most black metal vocalists destroy him. Oh, and "asked to join a black metal band", oh yeah right, like that'd be a good idea...

Should replace "Demons & Wizards" with Iced Earth. Then again, I wasn't much of an Iced Earth fan then, so I SUPPOSE that's fair enough.

And wait a second "the bass doesn't exist"? Did I not listen to the beginning of Rain properly? haha oh man I was deaf (well, course I'd have to be if I listed fucking Devildriver and Five Finger Donkey Punch).

Having said that, I still think the riffs were good, and yeah, they pretty much stayed in their comfort zone... and yeah, it still kicked ass.

Oh, and "wanky", not "wankey". rofl

3. Paradise Lost - Symphony X
This warrants a HOLY FUCK THIS IS GOOD! rating. 8/9 tracks are extremely kickass! The 1 not-so good song (which is still a good song) would be The Serpent's Kiss. I don't know why, but it doesn't hit me as well as the other 8 songs did. Revelation (Divus Pennae ex Tragoedia) is an extrmemely epic ending song, second only to Iron Maiden's beyong epic Hallowed Be Thy Name. Oh, and I guess Robb Flynn isn't the only one who's vocals sound a lot like Phil Anselmo's. Pretty sure that, when Russell Allen hits one of his raspier, harsher notes, he sounds a lot like Phil Anselmo when he hits those sorts of notes. Like Flynn, Allen does one hell of a job with his vocals. The Michael trio make use of their instruments to add to the near-orgasmic atmosphere of the songs, and Jason Rullo's drumming isn't your simple "keeping a beat", but also adds to the atmosphere well. Hell, if it wasn't for the next 2 albums, this very album would be my favorite release of 2007...

"beyong epic" lol

Honestly though, the only thing I disagree with here is my comment on "Revelation". It's a good song, don't get me wrong, but "extremely epic ending song"? lolwat

If I was doing this list again, I'd probably put this album at #1.

2. In Requiem - Paradise Lost
I have to say, if there was any Gothic Metal album I could listen to forevermore, I'd say this is THE album. The vocals of Nick Holmes are spectacular, and at times, sounds a fair bit like the Metallica vocalist/guitarist, James Hetfield...when he's not mourn-singing or growling, but in his normal singing voice, just reminds me of James Hetfield's. Unfortunately, that's all of Metallica that is similar to this near-masterpiece. The rest, well, isn't really that much like one another, and Paradise Lost gives Metallica a run for their money. Anyway, I have to say, the crushing riffs from guitarists Gregor MacKintosh and Aaron Aedy, as well as the kickass bass rhythmns from bassist Steve Edmonson and the incredible drumwork of Jeff Singer's, put together, create the album that we're listening to. The keyboards are usually there to add atmosphere, and they, along with the other instruments and Holme's vocals, add one hell of a sweet atmosphere. Just...wow! Awesome! Every track is as good as the other, and they're all 2007's best IMO...well, if Dethklok's Dethalbum wasn't around, they would be...Oh well, this is still one hell of an album...

For one thing, this is far from the gothic metal album I'd want to listen to forevermore... I'd say something from Type O Negative.

Perhaps Paradise Lost would give Metallica a run for their money, if Metallica had never released Kill Em All or Ride The Lightning (I'm of the opinion that Master Of Puppets and beyond aren't that good, and in fact, I find Master Of Puppets boring, barring 3 songs).

And seriously, "every track is as good as the other"? It's not exactly consistent. The first few songs were awesome; from there on, it ranged between mediocre and simply good. Oh, and what bass riffs? What "incredible" drum work? Shit, what "crushing" riffs? Yeah, they're good, but not "crushing"!

Dethalbum - Dethklok
Goddammit, this album is orgasmic on a level Symphony X just didn't reach. Dethklok just kick the shit out of their competition with this album. They are based off the band from the TV show Metalocalypse (which should be shown in Australia) of the same name. It isn't required to watch the show to get the lyrics of some songs, though if you call yourself a metalhead, you better watch the show by ANY MEANS NECESSARY! Anyway, every song is executed perfectly, without a need to go super technical. But yeah, their riffs and drum patterns are way too technical to be considered slack, though their technicality isn't through the higher roofs. Just about at the middle. Brendan Small is one hell of a guitar player and grolwer, as well as a pretty sweet keyboard player. Ehh...I can't really judge bass playing, as it's not heard too much. When it is, the bass playing is just extremely sweet! Looks like they decided to ditch the drum machine, as Gene Hoglan was hired to do the drumming to...well, make the drumming seem more human. Hey, he did the drumming for Strapping Young Lad (in all but the demos and first album) and Death (only in Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic), and they were fucking awesome efforts! And would you look at that, he still has it for the Dethalbum. I don't know what songs stand out, to be honest, they're all as orgasmic as each other, with Murmaider being a killer opener and the Deththeme being a great closer (well, technically, Dethharmonic was, but Deththeme is last on the track list, so Deththem it is, though both are really good closers). I guess my favorites would be Awaken, Birthday Dethday and the epic-as-hell Thunderhorse. Well, the closer of this would be that Dethalbum deserves all the praise it gets, and if you call yourself a metalhead, you will get this album and watch Metalocalypse.

Oh fuck me, where to begin... I suppose with the fact that Dethklok are mostly boring and shitty. Not to mention, the riffs are actually fairly simplistic, so it's hardly technical. Maybe the solos, kind of... not really. They have a bit of it, but that's it. The drumming isn't exactly human - I mean, it's more human that what was on the show, but it was still triggered and edited probably a good amount, so it still feels computerized. Maybe if it was a live album, perhaps that comment would hold some weight?

Oh, and Metalocalypse is NOT a good show for metalheads. Actually, it's a scientific fact that metalheads fucking hate the show. I, myself, find it to be... okay. It has its funny moments, but it's not a "laugh out loud bust your guts" show or anything.

"Each song is executed perfectly" is a croc of shit. Only like a few songs are any good, while the rest are soooooo average that they shouldn't exist. In fact, "Awaken" and "Birthday Dethday" are the only songs I can listen to on a consistent basis while the rest make me fall to sleep.

I'm done for now. tl;dr My taste in metal was shit in 2007.

DON'T take my comments about women being in Metal seriously. I just felt the need to point it out. But dont take me to be a sexist fool, I'm not.

Top 10 Albums released in 2007:

10. The Way Of The Fist - Five Finger Death Punch
Pretty good Groove Metal, though the lyrics are kind of bad and cliche (I mean, the ending of one of the songs ends with the vocallist saying fuck like 4 times).

Just...wow! Awesome! If there's an album I don't have on there and you think it should be...well, either I haven't listened to it yet, or I really didn't like it as much as The Way Of The Fist.

Looking forward to in 2008:
We Are The Nightmare - Arsis
I really like whatever of Arsis I could download (just can't find their albums in stores which leaves a sad face on me...). I'm just hoping this improves from the rest of their discography.

Blooddrunk - Children of Bodom
I just hope this band gets their act together! If this flops, I ain't gunna be interested in them again until they do get their act together. No...seriously...Are You Dead Yet? was just bad. But if it's going to be as thrashy, speedy and aggressive as Alexi said it will be, then this album will probably have a place somewhere...well, it'll be high, but not like Follow the Reaper or Hate Crew Deathroll high, just at about Hatebreeder level.

Metallica's ninth album
God, don't let me down now! After reading that they're going to be making this new album a lot like their older stuff, before Bob Rock decided to do their studio work, I became stoked! Again, GOD, DON'T FUCKING LET ME DOWN NOW!

obZen - Meshuggah
I'm hearing that Meshuggah's returning to their old sound in this album...Much as I like Catch 33 and the like, their older stuff was a bit better better, and with the increase in talent they got lately, they'll pull it off for what I'm thinking will be their best release yet!

Opeth's ninth album.
I just hope this doesn't become a second Ghost Reveries...I'll cry if it does. =( Okay, but seriously...Ghost Reveries wasn't that bad, but I liked their old stuff better! Actually, now that I think of it, I guess a blend of their old stuff and Ghost Reveries would = kickass album!

Holographic Universe - Scar Symmetry
Well, I have to say...Symmetric in Design and especially Pitch Black Process would have to be some of the best modern Melodic Death Metal albums I have ever listened to. I'm hoping Holographic Universe keeps the awesomess level up!

Time - Wintersun
Man, this has been delayed quite a lot. This just makes me want the album more! Just hope it's worth it though...like Symphony X's Paradise Lost was!

Well, that about sums up my thoughts about 2007 in general and what I'm expecting in 2008 as far as music (mostly Metal) goes. let's all have a happy 2008.

Parkway Drive - Killing With a Smile - The Review.

Tracklist:
1. Gimme A D
2. Anasasis (Xenophontis)
3. Pandora
4. Romance Is Dead
5. Guns For Show, Knives For A Pro
6. Blackout
7. Picture Perfect, Pathetic
8. It's Hard To Speak Without A Tongue
9. Mutiny
10. Smoke Em If Ya Got Em
11. A Cold Day In Hell

Score: 7.25/10

Summary: A great debut album for one of the less noticed metalcore bands. Some songs are crap, some songs are bloody brilliant, but all in all, you have yourself an album that sounds like Generic Metalcore at first, until you really start getting into this album and see past the not-so great breakdowns. Focus on the vocals, drumwork and guitar solos; they are the main highlights of the album as far as every song goes.

Style: A mix of Metalcore and Melodic Death Metal, with Melodic Death Metal growls (instead of hardcore screams). They are mostly like I Killed The Prom Queen, though you could also say this is Metalcore's answer to The Black Dahlia Murder, as the vocals constantly change from high-pitched growls to low-pitched growls, plus the songs are fast paced and heavy. The structure of the songs are usually fast verse-chorus-verse, then breakdown and either a new verse or the chorus is growled. So basically, you're putting I Killed The Prom Queen with The Black Dahlia Murder (The Prom Queen Murder)

The Songs Themselves:

Gimme A D: Great way to start an album. The song starts with a kickass solo then Winston begins growling and the crashing riffs and fast drum beats kick in as well. There are a couple of breakdowns in there somewhere, but I couldn't notice them too well as their appearances were too abrupt, but the solo makes up for that and more. The solo is a fast one that's kind of technical, and leads into a few lines of growling before a slower part, which has Winston saying "No forgiveness" twice or thrice. 9/10

Anasasis (Xenophontis): Another cool beginning, though not as good as Gimme A D's. The beginning drags on for a bit before Winston comes into the mix. This song will begin to sound crap for the first minute, but then picks up the pace and does well at it...for a while. Then the only notable things worth hearing would be Winston's growls and maybe the same couple of chords until the song picks up the pace again. At least the faster couple of chords are entertaining, and accompanied by awesome the drumming skills of Ben Gordon's. A fairly good guitar solo then leads us out of this song. 7.5/10

Pandora: Yet another good beginning, with a solo and then leading into the main riff, accompanied by Winston's growling, before picking up the pace some. There are a fair amounts of good guitar solos throughout the song, though that (and the main riff I suppose) are the only things doing this song any good. This has to be my least favourite song throughout the album, mainly because (with exceptions to the guitars and the solos) everyone was lackluster and the song even ends abruptly. Oh...there are clean vocals in this song, and they weren't too great here, but they are in the next. Mediocre at best. 6/10

Romance Is Dead: The longest song on the album, and one of my favourite tracks on this album. Parts are at medium speed, parts are fast, and both are fairly technical (and quite good I might add). The mixing of clean vocals did much better here. Then you have this fairly decent line somewhere in the slower part "So cry me a fucking river, bitch". Really...not too good. Sort of ruins the song, in a way. But the thing that makes this song stand out is that the growls are more coherant here, and actually have some good lyrics (though the one I mentioned sucked). Yeah, sure, it uses the word "fuck" lots, but (other than that river line) it adds something to the lyrics. I don't know what the word is, but it's a good thing. There's no solo, but that doesn't mean much. The ending is probably one of the better, with a calm synth sound (I think). Awesome track. 8.5/10

Guns For Show, Knives For A Pro: The song starts by going ballistic, then as soon as Winston speaks, the song slows down dramatically for a while, before picking up the ballistic riff pace, then just fast drums and fast chords. After a bit, the song slows down again, and has some growling and slower riffs and drum beats going on. Boring track, though it's kind of good. The last ten seconds, by the way, saved this song a bit. 7.5/10

[track artist=Parkway Drive]Blackout: Okay, here we go, a better song. Starts fast, then slows down a bit, then speeds up a bit. Plays like some of the faster Parkway Drive songs with different lyrics, but it's still pretty good. The last minute of the song = awesome. Far better than the last song's. Not much else to say, really. 8.5/10

Picture Perfect Pathetic: Another fast pace song. Another load of Black Dahlia Murder-esque growling scheme thingy Winston shows off. The crowd chanting added some interesting elemtent to this song, before Winston says "So taste the skin and let your heart beat slow, until you bleed away...lifeless". Eventually, the pace is picked up again, before the last 20 seconds has the song go slowly before it ends. Alright song I guess. 7.5/10

It's Hard To Speak Without A Tongue: Starts like a Progressive Metal song would, with acoustic guitars and a slow drum beat, before this catchy riff kicks in. After a while, this kickass solo plays before Winston growls and the song picks up the pace by a fair amount, then breaking down, then speeding up again, and...oh, you get it; the formula to a catchy song. Pretty much all it is; catchy, and kind of technical when you think about it. Within the last 45 seconds of this song, a solo kicks in, but it's kind of annoying for a bit before it becomes a good solo, which helps end the song with a bang. This track leads perfectly into the next one. 8/10

Mutiny: "The deepest circle of hell is reserved for betrayers and mutiny" says Captain Jack Sparrow. This uses a bit of audio from Pirates Of The Carribean, before the guitars and such kick in. This song has some good riffs and drum beats, both painfully fast and relaxingly slow (well, maybe not that slow, but it gets a bit like that). There's not much else you can say about this cool song because it's a hell of a lot like the others...the good tracks that is, not the crap ones. 8.5/10

Smoke 'Em If Ya Got 'Em: Starts with Winston saying "DIE" thrice, then saying some stuff before growling a bit. The riffs are a lot more D-tuned than whatever it normally is, which is what makes this song stand out from the rest. Also, it's one of Parkway Drive's more technical songs. It starts out painfully fast, but then it calms down in the second half. I think the ending is kind of draggy, but damn, you just have to love the first half. 8/10

A Cold Day in Hell: Best song on the album, period. After a slow intro, the faster riffs and drum beats kick in, as well as some of the best growls and vocals overall in the entire album. This actually sounds like a second version of Gimme A D, but better, though it's missing its kickass solo. The breakdown is actually the only good breakdown in this album. The lyrics are actually good (and easier to decipher than many of PD's other songs). Once the song begins to pick up the pace, it gets good, but then slows down a bit, and finally gets to the last legs of the album. Unlike many other slower parts of good songs, this one isn't complete crap, and actually adds to a good ending to a good album. The only problem I have with this song, and this is just being picky, is that it ends...just like that, but ignoring that, this is a good, enjoyable song that won't bore you. 9.5/10

Overall: 7.25/10

Great album. one of the best Metalcore albums I have ever listened to alongside Horizons (their second) and most of Unearth's discography. Awesome Metalcore band. If you want a good Metalcore album to listen to, this is a great album to listen to. If you say that all Metalcore is shit, listen to some of this stuff, and then you'll maybe see that not all Metalcore is shit.

Recommended Songs:

Gimme A D, Romance Is Dead, Blackout, Mutiny, Smoke Em If You Got Em, Cold Day In Hell

Don't mind the crappy review writing, it's my first one.
