That happened while I was trying to wrap my head around their latest album Shaking the Habitual.

The Knife has long been for me a band whose new releases I buy without hesitation, without even listening, but I must say that Shaking the Habiatual is a difficult one to stomach after Silent Shout. There is so much ambient and weird noises and sounds that most of the album seems unfriendly even. That, of course, is the whole point of the album but that type of music is still difficult for me.

I'm sure I will 'get used to it' after a while, but what then? Would the Dreijers even want that? It's been a full year again, so soon?

Ha, I made it past 100,000 plays and now I have about 103,900 plays. 11,700 plays in a year! That's almost double to the previous year. What's changed? Well, I got Spotify, for one. I don't listen to online radios at work anymore, I listen to Spotify and select what I listen to. The selection there is so wide I rarely listen to my own MP3 collection.

It would also seem that I have sort of 'found music' again. I'm discovering new artists and even new types of music. Some of it has to do with Spotify, but I'd say it's more about the attitude and wanting to hear new music.

Out of these Håkan Hellström is the only one that shouldn't be there, I simply forgot my player on when I left from work one day. Other than that there are some old constants but also new discoveries like Rebecca & Fiona , Azealia Banks, Dave Alvin and Miss Li. I'm glad about that.

Tuvalu has long been my favorite Finnish band, although occasionally there have been some good challengers for that position.

I first saw Tuvalu at one of their first gigs, but didn't even realize it until a few years after when they released their first album. I've seen Tuvalu live several times and every time they have taken me for a long journey in space with their music and lyrics. Tuvalu is definitely the premier band of the Finnish prog scene of the 21st century.

At the moment I have 92,200 total plays, only 6700 plays in a year. How come? I think I'm simply listening less music than before. My player isn't playing constantly as it once was, but I prefer to listen only when I want to hear certain music. And some of my listens aren't getting scrobbled, but they aren't all that many.

Quite a bit of movement, but only one new artist, Muse. Finnish bands rose with Eleanoora Rosenholm leading by gaining 6 places. Also Husky Rescue and Lapko rose up on the charts. The biggest drop was by Bloodpit who got no new plays the previous year. There were also other artists who got none or very little plays.

I say "scrobble", because I have been listening to some music on my phone and I can't get those plays in the statistics. I don't listen to music on the road all that much so the amount of plays is not very significant, but still.

It took me 349 days to scrobble the 10,000 tracks. On average that's 29 plays per day. It took me 90 more days than the previous 10,000 plays and even those scrobbles took longer than the ones before them. It seems I'm really not listening to music as much as I used to, even though I feel nothing has changed. But who am I to argue with statistics...

There are now 8,258 artists in my library, an increase of 444 during these 10,000 scrobbles. I now have exactly 85,500 total plays, that's 11,000 plays since last August. Not as many plays as I would have thought.

Husky Rescue and Ulver moved up the most (7 places) while 30 Seconds to Mars and Rammstein dropped the most (5 places). Tegan and Sara replaced Johnny Cash on the list.

The 15 most played artists cover about 20 % of the total plays in the past year, so I guess I haven't listened to that much new music. Actually, I noticed a few days ago that my subscription had ended and I didn't even notice. It means that I don't really listen to Last.fm radio anymore. It could be because I don't have a job and am more at home where I have my complete music library at hand. It is the second artist I have listened to 1,000 times and is #2 on my overall charts. The previous artist to get 1,000 plays was 浜崎あゆみ over three years ago.

Today, 1,000 plays only amounts to about 1,25 % of my total plays, which is not much.

Hamasaki has gotten only 200 plays in the past three years, so I'm not listening to her much anymore. The 1,000 plays she got are mostly from my time as an exchange student in Japan when I didn't have anything else to listen to...

Björk and Tuvalu are well on their way to 1,000 total plays and if I had to guess, I'd put my money on Tuvalu reaching the milestone first.]]>
