Because the front man for Anorkia is really nice, I was sent a promotional copy of Within the Void. So the best I can do is try to review it.

1) Corridor of Light
A really nice opening to the album, starts out with ping-ponging synths and some nice percussion, a really great string sound comes in. But then the vocals barge in.
Not that the vocals are bad, I just think they clash way too much, probably the distortion. The strings are really really good if you strain to listen to them.

2) Best Attempt
Ah-ha, here's something easily dancable. The vocals work really well this time, which I'm thankful for. Great chorus and overful fun to listen and sing along to.

3) Origin (Perfected)
Mellow stuff here, would be great to relax to if the male vocalist didn't sound so angry. :( Really nice female vocals though, I hear a hint of In Strict Confidence which is brilliant because I love ISC. I think it's a tiny bit from "perfected" if just because of the male vocalist.

4) Aerial Seas (Extended Version)
I like Aerial Seas quite a lot. Vocals work on both sides. Can't fault the music at all, all really great to listen to, with what at first glance may seem like errant percussion but is actually well thought out and complments it all very well. Thumbs up on this one.

5) Empty
Doesn't really stick out like most of the others, I get the feeling it's all a carrier for the vocals which aren't bad here.

6) The Wave
Hell yeah! This is more like it. Dancable, not too heavy and not too light at all. Really great stuff going on here. I think it demands another listen...

7) Jump Off
Wheee. This album gets better as it goes along. Awesome as hell percussion, really nice synths and good vocals. Has a really cool fast pace to it that you just can't help but bob your head to.

8) Disintegrate
Starts out great, bit of noisy stufff going on, think your in for something really brilliant, but the panning vocals really ruin it. Good job it has a great synth lead that's awesome. Shame about the vocals to be honest. Requesting instrumental!

9) Nimiety
Despite the dodgy name it starts out pretty nice. Vocals are screechy but okay I guess. Again I think this would work so much better as an instrumental. :( Can't really say much else about it since the vocals are so overpowering. Also it gets ridiculously messy towards the end totally destroying it. If the whole thing was like the first minute it would be brilliant.

10) Rainscape
This is pretty brilliant. Great string and choral work and a lushious xylophone like instrument that reminds me of the soundtrack for American McGee's Alice. A weird marching beat appears half way through but still works brilliantly well. I like listening to it a lot. :)

11) Anorkia
- [#] (Cube) (transwarp mix edit)
Pretty cool track. Nothing spectacular or dancy but still great to listen to. It's darkish synths really appeal to me, so I like it. Minimal vocals cut in and add to it rather than detract from it so that's good!

-----
Note: The release version of the album ends here. But the promo release has a few more tracks so I'll review them anyway.
-----

12) Nimiety (X-Mix)
Short but nice remix, sounds pretty gorgeous. Much much better than the original. This should be the actual track, shame that it kind of stops rather suddenly. I like it.

13) The Wave (Wellenreiter Remix by Blutzukker)
Pretty minimal but good stuff. Percussion could be so much better, but I'm a drum junkie so don't listen to me. I like the vocoded vocals that come in, they work better than the straight distorted ones. Good remix, I think I prefer the original though. :P

14) Toys In The Attic
Dark and heavy with some really great thumping beats. Gotta love it, vocals are great, music is great. Nice cherry on top of a great cake of an album. It can be found here: http://www.myspace.com/anorkia

15) Aerial Seas (Reprise)
Little outro for everything. Revisiting the lovely Aerial Seas, mellow and travelling out of the whole album in a great way. Good stuff.

Well that's that. It's definately something I'ld listen to again, mostly really great songs but a couple of ruined ones, generally to vocals unfortunatly.
If you'ld like to buy it here: http://www.cafepress.com/anorkia.58741411 I'ld recommend it of course! $9.99 is a bargain to be honest. There's some samples on there if you're not sure. :)
