I didn't know what I would think initially about an all-instrumental NIN album. It's not that I don't enjoy instrumental music, as I'm a very big fan of film scores and classical music. But, you never know what you're going to get when grabbing a new album from a band that has gotten continually experimental and further from their original sound (that I fell in love with so long ago).

The first full listen was very enjoyable. Reznor has expanded on the territory he explored in The Fragile, adding more layers and textures than before. I was feeling sore and decided I would take a hydrocodone before going to sleep so that my foot wouldn't wake me up in the middle of the night, but in the middle of my decision, I added, "Man, I wonder how this would be to sleep to?"

So, I set Ghosts I up in its own little playlist on repeat and went to bed. Man, talk about having some weird ass dreams! I can't really remember too many specific details, but I woke up thinking, "what the hell?!"

All in all, I can't wait to hear the other three "Ghosts", so I'll be purchasing the bundle soon. I have to say that I respect Reznor's business model:

Give one of four for free.
Charge $5 for digital DRM-free tracks of all four.
Charge $10 for a double-CD set.
Charge $75 for a deluxe edition with a lot of cool shit.
Charge $300 for a signed/numbered limited edition version with even more cool shit (which they are actually already sold out of).

It's brilliant if you ask me.

I had forgotten just how much I love their material. I missed seeing them in Austin when they were in their "heyday" of instrument-destroying goodness, but they're working on a new album now. Hopefully this means touring soon.

As you may notice, I left out Adrenaline from my Deftones day. I love the album, but I really wasn't in the mood for the production quality (or lack thereof). Also, Alpha Test is missing for the same reason.

I've found myself hitting "next" in iTunes more than usual for the last hour or so. I love setting the 'Tunes to shuffle since there's a huge amount of variety in my playlist. However, today is one of those days where this choice is detrimental (I probably spelled that wrong and am too lazy to go to dictionary.com at the moment).

I've been listening to too much talk radio during my commute to and from work. I need to remember to take the iPod with me.
