I was listening to E Street radio today and they were speculating on the playlist. I believe they have about 15 minutes. Bruce has admitted that part of the motivation behind performing at the Super Bowl was to promote the new album Working on a Dream, so you can expect a new song. I hope that we get a surprise, but the title track will more than likely be one of the 4 songs (maybe just 3) songs played.

What else?

The Cure is a band that I have loved for decades. I remember distinctly several occasions when Robert Smith and crew assisted me in getting through some of life's more challenging times, such as high school, juvenile crushes and the subsequent emotional torture, the army years, college, and my 20's. While The Cure has shifted line-ups and altered their sound numerous times over the years, they have remained consistently true to what I love about them>>>they wear their emotions on their sleeves.

So, I headed off to Target to make sure I had a clean black shirt to wear, made a playlist of my favorite Cure songs, and off to Gwinnett, where success lives! I was prepared to have my face rocked off, my shoes to be gazed upon, and I was even thinking about sticking my arms straight out to my side, closing my eyes, and acting like I am flying (Robert Smith's one dance move).

Overall, it was a tremendous show with The Cure banging out shoegzing and goth classics for nearly 3 hours. I was a little surprised at the crowd, though. First of all, the place was 1/2 full (maybe a result of the reschedule?). But most of all, it was the people who did attend that surprised me most. It could have been a James Taylor concert judging by the paunch ridden, hair challenged PTA meeting that showed up. Where were the goths? Where were the tortured youngsters? They have been replaced by Bulldog fans.

But, The Cure delivered and a good time was had by all, even the cougar a few rows over.

Its not as ridiculous as that dude from The Cult singing with The Doors, but it is pretty darn close. How about Paul Rogers singing for Queen. OUCH!

New era notwithstanding, INXS was a great band that created some classic hits and a couple of "beginning to end" quality albums with "Kick" and "Listen Like Thieves." Their song "Never Tear Us Apart" was the Seabreeze High School Class of 1989 song (in spite of the best efforts from school newspaper editor Jeremy "The Kid" Johnson to have Alphaville's "Forever Young" represent the mighty Sandcrabs). Yeah, the band INXS was a creative force in the late 1980's and below are my Top Ten favorites.

I know that this is a music site, so I will keep the politics brief and get to my "musical point." I was certainly an Edwards man and loved his approach to politics. That having been said, what I REALLY liked about him was his awesome "soundtrack." Senator Edwards entered the stage to the criminally cheesy "Our Country" by John Mellencamp. Oh yes, the Chevy song. The song that knocked "Like A Rock" off of the airwaves. Then, to top it all off, he exited to Bruce Springsteen's classic "The Rising." You wanna talk about winning my vote? I LOVE both of those songs. One for its ridiculous "go America" tilt and the other for its genuine "hang in there America" theme.

Other politicians use popular music to try to connect with voters; heck, why wouldn't they? Music is able to set the mood, and for John, the mood was "hell yeah, America." Hillary is currently using "American Girl" by Tom Petty. I remember fondly the younger and more feminine Bill Clinton using "Dont Stop" by Fleetwood Mac. Can anyone else think of popular songs used by politicians? Did Rudi have any "9/11" songs at his rallies?
