This is a sad day not only for me, poor Anna shares my fate :(

Since we love noble metallic Nightwish (especially silver) we thought we could join the awesome group ~Gold+Nightwish~ of Raccoon4ik, but unfortunately we were not welcome there :(

Kinda bored right now so I decided to waste my time making another journal on this site.

Really nice song, love vocals and everything about it <3 (omg I sound like a goddamn fangirl). Also it's Escapist, without "The".

Noumena - Triumph And Loss
I already had this song on another journal, well it fits the topic of this one as well.

In Flames - Colony
When this band was good. Mainriff=fucking win.
Even my sister (who doesn't like Metal at all) likes this track.

last month (when I became 21) I got myself a new guitar, so here is this beauty:

I was testing several guitars (mostly ESP, Ibanez and Schecter) and I liked the Horizon the most. Nice playability, sound and the best look of course.

Favourite instruments

Now this is a really intresting and quite new topic. What instruments' sound do you like best?

Apparently (by looking at my charts) I like metal and therefore heavily distorted guitars, bass and aggressive, fast drums.
These instruments just make my adrenaline flow and me feel alive.

Making this kind of list wouldn't make any sense if this would be everything I have to say :p

1st: distorted guitar
This instrument is awesome, it is able to produce so many different sounds, from nearly clean bluesy/jazzy stuff to heavy rhythms and riffs in metal to screaming solos. Godly instrument!

Of course an electric guitar can also produce a clean sound, but when it comes to this the following instrument is so much better:

2nd: acoustic guitar
This was obvious :p
Well I'm playing guitar for several years now, I just love the instrument and everything you can do with it: arpeggiated chords where tones flow nicely into another, strumming, soothing melodies and the conjunkction of this ofc :D
Especially 12-stringed guitars have a cool sound. Bands like Opeth, Insomnium and (old) In Flames are great at combining acoustic and distorted sections; that just makes the music so much more interesting.

3rd: flute
The flute is a great instrument, if you don't know that you've probably never listened to Jethro Tull. Ian Anderson is a freaking genious! Oceanborn also featuresn nice flute parts, e.g. on Moondance or The Pharaoh Sails to Orion, the solo in FantasMic is awesome.

4th: piano
This is a bit clichéd.

5th: strings
Strings are used in every kind of music I know. They make the music sound way more emotional and/or dramatic.

I just stop ranking here. I like most plucked string instruments - especially Japanese instruments like koto or shamisen (check out Whispered, Hajimari + Thousand Swords) and every kind of woodwinds. Organs sound nice as well.

So here's my list! It includes leads as well as rhythm parts, these are my current favourites:

10. Nightwish - Know Why the Nightingale Sings
Nightwish is more keyboard/orchestra focused music, therefore good guitar riffs are rare. The mainriff of this song is really cool (and quite simple to play on guitar as well!)

9. Amon Amarth - Asator
Hell yeah!

8. Metallica - Damage Inc.
The interlude riff has to be one of the best riffs ever.

1. Opeth - White Cluster
When I started making this list I had 3 or 4 Opeth tracks on my mind, I decided to take just one haha. The rhythm guitar in the solo section (starts at 6:17) is unbelievable AWESOME.

When I first heard DPP back in 2007 (wow nearly 3 years passed, Time for a new effort, isn't it?), I couldn't really get into it. Main reason would be that I just heard Oceanborn and Angels Fall First by that time and DPP was totally different compared to this two (not to Once but as I said I didn't knew Once back then, not even Nemo). I put it aside an listened to some other stuff like In Flames and other metal bands (I was just getting into metal). Well about a year later I was getting all the missing Nightwish albums and really started to like them.

DPP definitely grew on me very much, I think it's my second favourite with Century Child, first is (STILL) Oceanborn. I find Wishmaster is just a copy of Oceanborn, while DPP is like Once, just better. Overall better production (not that wannabe heavy guitar sound and C-tuning), better orchestral arrangements, better voice - let me explain before you hang me: I'm not a big fan of female vocalists and Anette sounds more pleasent to my ears =)

My favourite songs are Sahara, Master Passion Greed (instrumental, because the lyrics are fuckin' stupid), Cadence of Her Last Breath, The Poet and the Pendulum and Last of the Wilds. It also has weaker songs, but all Nightwish albums have those, even Oceanborn.
Sahara is just awesome. The atmosphere is OMGWTFZOMG-great, everything fits perfectly: the heavy guitar riffs, the orchestra, the bass (really, really great bass, especially in the parts with guitar breaks!), Anette's voice and the lyrics. The picture of the Desert Of Colours Goab (btw read Michael Ende - The Neverending Story please) popped up in my head :)
The next great thing about the album is the diversity, it was a great idea to incoporate those folk elements with Last Of The Wilds and The Islander. Especially LotW is awesome and really fun to play on guitar (I still have to figure out that insane second solo, damn).
Master Passion Greed is pure aggression, I like it. Cadence Of Her Last Breath features nice vocal lines, also the guitar solo and the riff afterwards rock big time.
I don't think I have to write much about TPATP, it's overlength but awesome. Plus I think the parts flow nicely into each other and I once thought the last part is boring, well that changed^^ "Worse" than Beauty Of The Beast but better than Ghost Love Score and FantasMic (everyone forgets about that one, eh?).
The other songs are pretty ok, Amaranth is pretty good at being a single (haha), but I really don't like Bye Bye Beautiful, that song is nearly as bad as Wish I Had An Angel (that song sucks, imho not worth being a Nightwish song lol).

I don't count Escapist (without "The") as a DPP-track. It's one the best Nightwish songs, though.
Also it's really sad they weren't allowed to release The Heart Asks Pleasure First :(((

My favourite guitar solos (Sep 09)

Just came up with that idea while playing Know Why the Nightingale Sings.

1. Metallica - Fade to Black
I'm not a big fan of Kirk Hammet, but really adore the song and the guitar solo.
2. Wintersun - Battle Against Time
Epic!!! The vocals fading into it + awesome rhythm and Jari's sweeps.
3. Nightwish - Know Why the Nightingale Sings
This is my favourite Nightwish solo. Awesome melodic stuff and it's really fun playing it on guitar.
4. Nevermore - The River Dragon Has Come
Loomis rocks. The rhythm under the solo is also brilliant.
5. Wintersun - Death and the Healing
Really amazing, especially the unreal clean part at 4:03ff.
6. In Flames - The Hive
I love the tapped part.
7. Ensiferum - Into Battle
The whole instrument part is genious, so is the solo.
8. Dream Theater - The Best of Times
This is for sure one of Petrucci's best solos. Awesome.
9. As I Lay Dying - Nothing Left
I'm not really into metalcore, but this song and its solo are plain awesome.
10. Metallica - Nothing Else Matters
Most Metallicafans call this song overrated. I don't think so, playing it on guitar is REAL fun.

Could add at least 20 another songs, but that would be over the top. :)

Nightwish in Erfurt

Sa., 21. Mär. – Nightwish European Déjà Vu Tour 2009

Das is copy-pasted aus dem Nightwishforum

So, hier mal nen kurzen Überblick über meinen gestrigen Tag (und das Konzert in Erfurt <3)

Bin morgens so um 9 Uhr aufgestanden, geduscht, gefrühstückt etc. Dann runter zu dem Radrennen, was in unserem Dorf stattfand (wobei ich eigentlich helfen sollte ^^) dann hat mich meine Schwester zum Bahnhof gefahren. Karte gekauft, auf den Bahnsteig rübergegangen: Alles voll mit Polizisten (wtf?). Dann kam um 11.45 der Zug (natürlich nicht pünktlich, deutsche Bahn und so!) eingestiegen und jetzt wusste ich, warum die Polizisten da rumstanden, der ganze Zug war voll von angetrunken und betrunkenen Fußballprolos, offensichtlich Fans von Fortuna Düsseldorf, die zu dem Auswärtsspiel nach Erfurt gefahren sind grin.gif
Jedenfalls benahmen die sich fürterlich, ich saß auf dem Gang vor dem Klo, weil's in den Abteilen so fürchterlich nach Alk und Kotze stank -.-

In Erfurt bin ich dann erstmal zu McDoof, Gutschein eingelöst (2 BigMac zum Preis von einem!) und dann direkt zum Anger. War dann auch so Viertel Zwei in der Passage. Gab ne kleine Schlange, dort wo die Autogrammstunde stattfinden sollte - bin dann einfach nochmal in den Saturn, war dann ne halbe Stunde vor Beginn wieder da, brav hinten angestellt und das Ende der Geschichte: Ich bin nicht mehr dran gekommen cry.gif

Jedenfalls hab ich daraus was gelernt:
1. Nächstes mal bin (sofern möglich) früher da
2. Ich bin nicht so kulant und stell mich hinten an (ich hab Leute gesehn, die sich vorgedrängelt haben, und die haben ein Autogramm roll.gif )

War dann ziemlich niedergeschlagen (verständlich sad.gif )
Bin gleich in die Straßenbahn rein und Richtung Messe gefahren, ausgestiegen, kurz in den Real gegenüber, ne Packung Eistee gekauft und mich an den Eingang geplanzt (war dann wohl so um halb vier da). Jedenfalls sollte man nicht soviel vorher drinken, wenn man nämlich kurz vor Einlass nochmal aufs Klo muss, hat man umsonst gewartet und der Platz ganz vorne ist hin XD
Ich war (glücklicherweise) ein wenig früher austreten und konnte mich wieder nach vorne durchquetschen.

Dann war um ~19:30 Einlass, hab (ohne zu Drängeln!) einen Platz mittig-rechts in der dritten Reihe bekommen.

Kurz vor Acht haben dann Indica angefangen zu spielen, kann ich jetzt nicht soviel dazu sagen, waren aber 100 mal besser als Krieger letztes Jahr (und sahen auch besser aus =)
Pain machten danach schon richtig Stimmung, besonders bei Shout Your Mouth war schon extrem Partystimmung.
ZU NIGHTWISH:
7 Days To The Wolves fand ich jetzt als Opener nicht so prickelnd, aber den Refrain kann man gut mitgröhlen.
Das Problem bei mir ist jetzt, das ich nicht mehr genau weiß, was sie wann gespielt haben XD
Ich glaub als zweites kam Dead To The World, auf jeden Fall richtig geil. Da war dann auch schon riesig Stimmung.
Setlist war aber glaub ziemlich identisch, mit dem, was Dragonprincess ein paar Seiten vorher gepostet hat:

Ich konnte schon nach Amaranth meine Arme nicht mehr spüren und mein Nacken tat übel weh =)
Wenn Anette dich bei Sahara auffordert "HEP HEP HEP" dann gehts halt nicht anders..
Da passten dann die ruhigen Parts in DBP, TPATP und The Islander gut, um sich ein wenig zu erholen.

Bei Escpaist und Dark Chest Of Woanders gings dann so richtig ab.
Ghost Love Score war toll, besonders das Konfettikram. Hätte allerdings lieber Wishmaster als Wish I had An Angel gehört (aber das wohl reichlich aussichtslos, darauf zu hoffen)

Meine Highlights waren Romanticide, Sahara und Dark Chest of Wonders.

Dann muss ich hier noch was bezüglich des Publikums loswerden:
Ich versteh nicht, warum sich Leute, die das ganze Konzert nur rumstehen und nicht mal klatschen (JAWOLL) sich in die zweite/dritte Reihe drängeln. Neben mir stand so ein Pärchen (beide so Ende zwanzig, Anfang dreißig), die haben das ganze Konzert REGUNGSLOS dagestanden, bis auf die paar Ellenbogenhiebe, die ich von dem Kerl kassiert habe, weil ich ihn beim Headbangen ein paar mal angerempelt hab (nicht mal angerempelt, vllt "berührt"). Der Rest des Publikums war super, die Leute um mich rum jedenfalls =)

Also ingesamt das geilste Konzert, das ich je erlebt habe. Ein bisschen enttäuscht war ich allerdings immernoch wegen der Autogrammstunde.. und weil ich kein Plektrum von Emppu fangen konnte :<
