...then the music industy is officially DEAD.

White Lies

I think they're sort of similar to Glasvegas, both musically and in general. Both bands are influenced by the post-punk of the 80s, more darker bands such as Joy Division, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Cure, The Jesus and Mary Chain etc.

Also, both bands have similar ways of getting their music out. Both bands have been releasing demos quietly for the past year now, both have had appearences on Later... with Jools Holland, both have videos in heavy rotation on music channels and magazines such as NME, and its only in recent months the bands are starting to get noticed, especially Glasvegas, who have just released their debut album today. Hopefully, White Lies will recieve the same sucess and interest as Glasvegas has been given.

Check it, yo. GHOST AWAY - SIBERIA

Just discovered this new, really obscure band the other day. They're called Ghost Away, and they have their debut album, Siberia, up for free download on their website, www.ghost-away.com. However, for some odd reason, the download didn't work for me, it might for you though. I got mine from their last.fm page. Found these guys whilst listening to radiohead tagged radio.

Anyway, I highly recommend you listen to the album. To me, it seems like a mixture of music, ranging from sounding like Radiohead, Portishead, The Flaming Lips, Placebo, UNKLE, Coldplay, Mogwai, Primal Scream, Beck and Brian Eno all at the same time. Truely fantastic album, I suggest you listen to it even if you don't like any of those bands I mentioned.

I'd love to know who the individuals responsible for these magnificant soundscapes are, and if they're self produced or what not. Actually, I'd love to know (and hear) alot more from the band. They deserve much more then just under 1000 listens.

MTV and Radiohead Team Up To Stomp Out Human Trafficking!

"Radiohead, one of the world's top bands, has joined the MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) campaign, a partnership between the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and MTV to raise awareness about human trafficking. The collaboration takes the Asia MTV EXIT campaign to a global audience, reaching as many as 560 million households worldwide.

"Radiohead is taking MTV EXIT to a new level and expanding the Asia campaign, which is on air, online and on the ground," said Olivier Carduner, USAID's Regional Mission Director for Asia.

As part of this effort, Radiohead is releasing a music video on MTV tomorrow (May 1) to the track All I Need, from its album In Rainbows. Filmed by Oscar-winning cinematographer John Seale ("The English Patient") and award-winning director Steve Rogers, the video depicts a day in the life of both an affluent youngster and a child making shoes in a sweatshop, sending a message that everyone plays a role in trafficking and exploitation.

Radiohead is also inviting anti-trafficking organizations to distribute information about human trafficking at their upcoming concert tour through North America, Europe and Asia. "It is cool that MTV is taking on this issue. The video is a powerful piece, and I hope that the emotion of the song will jump out at people in the context of these images of exploitation," said Radiohead's Thom Yorke.

MTV is looking for innovative ways to present important issues such as human trafficking to its audience, said Bill Roedy, Vice Chairman MTV Networks. "Trafficking is a crime that violates the basic rights of its victims: the rights to freedom, equality, and dignity."

The USAID Regional Development Mission in Asia is working with MTV to raise awareness about the causes and consequences of human trafficking in the region. USAID-funded documentaries Traffic and Sold have been broadcast throughout Asia, are posted on the MTV EXIT website (www.mtvexit.org), and are distributed rights-free in DVD format. Plans to take the campaign to rural and urban areas in Asia are underway.

USAID is funding the production of the MTV EXIT films for Asia. Top Asian pop and film stars, including Lucy Liu ("Charlie's Angels," "Ally McBeal"), Rain of South Korea, Tata Young of Thailand, Lara Dutta of India, Christian Bautista of the Philippines and Kris Dayanti of Indonesia have volunteered to narrate the films in their native languages and in English.

The campaign capitalizes on their images and MTV's brand appeal, transforming people's views about trafficking and exploitation and provides a platform for NGOs, governments and law enforcement agencies to prevent trafficking and assist victims.

MTV EXIT television programming is produced rights-free and is free of charge for all broadcasters and organizations. The programming is also available to be streamed and downloaded from http://www.mtvexit.org.

My question is... will this actually help? Is the imagery used in the video strong enough to get the point across, or does it just fall flat on its face?

But, I think the biggest questions Radiohead fans want to know is... is this their next single? I know I want to know!

The video itself. Not really Radiohead, seems more like something Coldplay or Keane would do. Perhaps Radiohead are being influenced by the influenced?

Being Negative About My Favourite Artists - Part 1

Most blogs I've seen with this on have been about their top artists as judged by Last.fm. But I haven't been using Last.fm long enough for that to be accurate, so i'll just take my favourite artists personally and write about them.. probably in no particular order too...

The Beatles - Everything before Revolver mostly sucks except the odd song such as Help! and Yesterday.

Oasis - Alot of their songs sound exactly the same as the others... and they haven't beaten (What's the Story) Morning Glory? and probably never will.. although Don't Believe the Truth came very close.

Radiohead - They started out grunge on Pablo Honey, which isn't a bad thing, but it just isn't up to par with anything else by Radiohead, not even up to par with the, lets face it, their not very good Amnesiac.

Muse - I can see the similarities to Radiohead on their first album Showbiz, which isn't a bad thing, but it makes them unoriginal, which makes their music meaningless. But I think they fully rubbed those off by the time they reached Absolution.

Blur - Damon Albarn can get so annoying sometimes... and a lot of tracks from some of the albums aren't very interesting, such as tracks from The Great Escape...

The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Well, its a film, so I suppose that puts it down a little. Also, some songs from it are a bit... too cheesy for my liking. Also, I hear Shock Treatment is terrible.

The Who - They should have stopped when Keith Moon died. Anything after he died is pretty terrible... wasn't it The Who who said "I hope I die before I get old" in My Generation, yet they're still touring and recording to this day, as old men, without Keith or John Entwistle?

Arctic Monkeys - Even though I'm from around the same area, and sound like them, their vocals can get annoying... and I get compared to the Arctic Monkeys a hell of a lot, which is rather annoying.

Placebo - Oh my God, lead singer is sooooooo annoying... although the music is brilliant.

My Chemical Romance - Their first album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love is too screamo, their second album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, has some good tracks, but is a little too emo for me. Cracking job on The Black Parade though, even though it's emo, it's amazing. I can only dream of what it would be like if MCR weren't an emo band...

David Bowie - He has done WAAAAYYY to much. He has a mixture of amazing stuff, such as Low and The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars albums, and then he does horrrendous stuff such as Diamond Dogs and Aladdin Sane.

Pink Floyd - Although they are amazing, their longer songs, such as Atom Heart Mother Suite or Echoes, are so good, yet so long, I usually don't have the patience for them. Also, they have some terrible albums such as The Final Cut and Ummagumma.

The Stone Roses - A lot of the stuff on their albums could have been much better if they weren't so overproduced. Also, why did you have to split up?! For fucks sake... why can't you just get along?

Righto, thats it for now. I'll bring part 2 some other time, I really can't be bothered at the moment!

QUESTIONS:

1. Which song do you prefer, 1 or 30?
Hmm.. depends what mood I'm in. If I want an upbeat, faster, more straight ahead rock song, I'd go for Steady As She Goes. However, if i want a slower, somber, more alternative song, I'd go for Meglomania.

2. Have you ever listened to 12 continuously on repeat?
It's an amazing song, but I never put any song on repeat.

3. What album is 26 from?
I don't know where it came from originally. I only have their greatest hits, and I only have the acoustic disc coz I dunno where the normal disc went!

4. What do you think about the artist who did 15?
I think he's a very talented musician. His solo album is very good, and his work in Pulp was good, though I haven't heard much of Pulp to be honest. And c'mon, he stood up to Micheal Jackson at the Brits!

5. Is 19 one of your favorite songs?
Nope. It's not even one of my favourite Hendrix's, althought I love the bass and the high vocals.

6. Who does 28 remind you of?
No one in particular. Except The White Stripes, obviously!

7. Does 20 have better lyrics or music?
Haven't really taken much note of the lyrics, but they are sung well, so I'd have to say music.

8. Do any of your friends like 3?
Yeah, my mates who like Oasis. And c'mon, I'm sure everyone likes this song.. especially us brits, who obsess over Oasis.

9. Is 23 from a movie soundtrack?
Nope, at least not that I know of. I got mine from Blur's self titled album.

10. Is 18 overplayed on the radio?
It was probably on the radio when it was first released as a single, but I never hear it on the radio. Overshadowed by Blur's much better, much more popular singles.

11. What does 21 remind you of?
Other songs from the same artist and genre... what else would it remind me of?

12. Which do you prefer, 5 or 22?
5 (Me and My Monkey), because I feel it's better. But Chaos is an amazing song too, just a little too slow for UNKLE!

13. What album is 17 from?
The Dark Side of the Moon. EPIC ALBUM.

14. When did you first hear 19?
When I got Axis: Bold As Love probably.

16. What genre is 8?
Post-Punk, Indie, Danceyish.

17. What is your favourite lyric from 3?
"So I Start A Revolution From My Bed, Coz You Said The Brains I Had Went To My Head" Great lyrics, which I believe are actually from one of John Lennon's notebooks which Noel Gallagher owns...

18. What color does 4 remind you of?
Hmm.. brown. But all Franz Ferdinand songs remind me of the colour brown.. possibly because of their image...

19. Have you ever blasted 11 on your stereo?
Yeah. I love cranking this one up load. Those guitars sound so... powerful.

20. What genre is 7?
Typical early Stones, that folksy bluesy genre.

21. Can you play 13 on any instrument?
I can barley play any instruments... so no. Wish I could though!

22. What is your favorite lyric from 30?
"Take Off Your Disguise, And All Your Underneath, It's Me" Doesn't make sense to me, but it sounds amazing when he sings it!

23. What is your favorite lyric from 23?
"Here Comes A Low, Here Comes A High" I don't know enough lyrics from this song, so I took the ones I know.

24. Would you recommend 24 to your friends?
I always try to spread the words of Radiohead, but none of my friends seem particulary interested in them... which really sucks. Oh well, I'd try this one, it's more "mainstream" Radiohead.

25. Is 2 a good song to dance to?
I suppose it is... it's Kasabian, so loads of loud electronicy beats. But I haven't tried to be honest!

26. Do you ever hear 16 on the radio?
Nope, but it's a good song.. but there's so much good radio hits on that album, this just doesn't stand out as much.

27. Is 22 more of a nighttime or daytime song?
Both. It's a calm song.

28. Does 16 have any special meaning to you?
Nope, not really. It just reminds me of the A1 lol... haven't got a clue why.

29. Do any of your friends like 1?
I'm sure they do, as it was quiet successful in this country a few years ago.. but it's never really came up in conversation to be honest, so I could be wrong!

30. Is 25 a fast or slow song?
More slow, but you could say it's a fast song. But I'd say more slowish.

31. Is 5 a happy or sad song?
Happy! C'mon, its about a monkey! 'Nuff said!

32. What is one of your favorite lyrics from 9?
"I Need To Be Myself, I Can't Be No One Else, I'm Feeling Supersonic" Basically the opening lyrics. I like saying supersonic alot to people, it's one of my many phrases...

33. Is 14 better to listen to alone or with friends?
Hmmm... well, I don't recall ever listening to it with friends, but it's sorta funky, so I bet it'd be good at a party. But there's much better Gorillaz songs which can be listened to with friends.

34. When did you first hear 27?
When I got Thom Yorke's album... or whereever I got those acoustic versions of the tracks from...

Ooooh, The Beatles. I Am The Walrus. Hey Jude. While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

Nope, I don't really like the RHCP to be honest.

37. Does 28 have better lyrics or music?
Hmmm... that's a tricky one. Awesome lyrics, but I listen to music for music, so I'll go for music.

Vampire Weekend (self-titled, debut album. Very good album, first good album I heard from 2008).
