Beginning of the Enz:
the remaster for this is still superior. the sound quality is of course better. given that it wasn't remixed and there's no bonus tracks, there's not much else to say when comparing these. i still think the sound quality isn't too great, but it could be for some of the songs, they just didn't have the master tapes any more or something. (i'm looking at you, Sweet Talking Spoon Song.)

Mental Notes:
this album sounds MUCH better. the original was...crappy, basically. sometimes the sound quality sounded muffled. that's pretty much gone. this definitely needed remastering. the bonus tracks are throwaways for me, i really don't care about having one or two live songs from a performance. i'd rather have the whole concert.

Second Thoughts:
all the remastered version of this did was just prove to me that most of the songs just sound like a band going through the motions. originally, i did prefer many of the ST versions to their MN counterparts, but now? it's the opposite. the only i can't get into is titus. goat phil just doesn't win it for me. but Matinee Idyll on this album just sounds dreadful compared to the version on BOTE. no bonus tracks on this one.

Dizrythmia:
ahhhh, perfection. you know, they really couldn't improve upon this album, so all eddie did was just remaster it. and, you know, throw Another Great Divide at the end for no continuity whatsoever. i mean, it fits on this album, but it does bug me when bonus tracks are just thrown in at the end. i can't imagine where else i'd put it, though. and it would've been stupid to just put the one song on a separate cd. i guess the only solution is a separate cd of demos, b-sides, and outtakes!

Frenzy:
wow, this album is a huge improvement. i actually didn't care for frenzy before, but now i love it! Famous People has got this fantastic, funky beat. i also love the bonus tracks, Semi-Detached is brilliant. the new track listing though...i'm not sure.

True Colours:
ehhh. there's nothing wrong with the remaster of this album, mind you, but by the time this came out, my love affair with true colours was over. i'd moved onto dizrythmia and time and tide. i do still love The Choral Sea, though. and Things is awesome, i'm so glad they remastered that. it sounds totally different now! and i mean that in a good way.

Corroboree:
meh, this album will always be waiata to me. oh well. anyway, i have things i love and hate about this new remaster. for one, the vocals have been brought up, whereas before they were sometimes buried over the loud drums. now i love drums, but i like it when all the instruments are at equal volume. however, some of the songs have lost some of their charm. i'm also not sure i like the new track listing. for example, i miss the old sound of Ghost Girl. on the other hand, the new version of Albert Of India is beautiful. i still don't really like Clumsy, but the remastered version is more tolerable. basically, sometimes i listen to the remastered version, sometimes i listen to the old version.

Time And Tide:
another perfect album. not much was changed other than improving the sound quality. i was kinda disappointed to not see any bonus tracks on this album, but oh well. i still wish they'd put on Firedrill though, i love that song.

Conflicting Emotions:
much like frenzy, the remastered version took an album i didn't like and made me like it. Bullet Brain And Cactus Head went from being horrible to kinda funky and...good. it definitely doesn't sound like any other split enz album, what with the drum machines and all. i also wished they'd included any bonus tracks, Parasite would've been an obvious choice. or even Next Exit, but we'll get to that.

See Ya 'Round:
this album is so underrated. i liked it before, but i like it even better now that it's been remastered. i can totally understand why neil split the band up after tim left, but i can't help but wonder sometimes what would've happened if he'd kept the band going. oh well. some of the tracks are filler. Kia Kaha should've been on conflicting emotions in the first place, i don't care if it would've taken away another tim song. maybe if his contributions for that album were better (save for Bon Voyage) he would've had more songs on the album anyway. i digress. another song that doesn't belong on here is Next Exit. a single released in 1983 before conflicting emotions is thrown in on an album that doesn't even feature tim? it's so odd. i know i'm not the first person to question that though, so i won't dwell on it. it's just incredibly weird. instead, they could've included Overdrive and/or some demos.
