DISCLAIMER: Does humor belong in last fm? I think so. I LOVE PROG. But I just can't help laughing at the closed minded comments I see here. This is just some fun.

The Proghead Manifesto

1.It's prog, not frog.If a band is not prog, then it's not music, it's frog. I mean, it's pop.
2.If a prog band makes a track that lasts less than 6 minutes, then is not prog and they are sellouts, because they make shitty pop music (unless it's full of weird noises such as things you could find in the kitchen and/or random screams or things you could find in the kitchen and/or weird noises).
3.Females tend to make shitty pop music. The only ones worth listening are Kate Bush, Tori Amos orBjörk, or jazz vocalists (but not Amy Winehouse, cause she's so mainstream).
4.Solos and chord progressions always must be longer than they are, detailed, pretentious and extremely complex.
5.Every guitarist, drummer and keyboardist must make you feel like you're a failure and not gonna be able to play an instrument. EVER.
6.Every vocalist must have either a really high pitched voice (like Jon Anderson or Geddy Lee), a whispering one (like Roger Waters or Steven Wilson) or a wide badass range like Mikael Akerfeldt or Daniel Gildenlöw.Make sure to recognize some layered vocals with endless la-la-la-la-aaaaaaahs like Yes.
7.Every. Album. Must. Be. Conceptual. Non-conceptual albums lack originality in every sense.
8. It's ok if you listen to new prog like Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater Opeth or Riverside but please worship all or some of the ancient gods of prog (Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, Frank Zappa, Can and most likely Pink Floyd).
9. minutes of the same piano chord can be prog. Why not? How dare you to bad mouth Pink Floyd!
10.jazz is always welcome, especially in its weird variants like avant garde. When you feel like you have no idea what are you listening to anymore, then you'll be a truer proghead.
11.If Opethmakes an album with no growls, then it's totally gay.
12.Everything Steven Wilson touches turns to gold.He's the real Midas.
13.We can even listen to Kanye West if we want to. I mean, he sampled King Crimson! (and they're a kvlt band). It's not like any rapper could do that.
14. No guitarist will be better than any of the classics. Is your favorite Petrucci? OK. Kvlt enough.But don't dare to put it over DAVID FUCKIN' GILMOUR!.
15.classical music.That thing your grandpa loves. That's right! Go and have thousand of plays of Edgar Varèse. You may not understand what are you listening to at first, but then...oh, you'll never get it. Makes you look cool and open to complex music.
16.Being atheist and claiming how childish the concept of God is all the time, overanalyzing the lyrics and private lifes of musicians who are reserved while claiming that they are gods is a must.
17.Ballads? Songs about party and girls? Fun? That's so gay. 80s are gay.Prog songs must be about death, rare ancient legends, strange planets, black holes,spaceships, cryptic writings and numbers. Prog is serious.
18. To simulate openminded attitude, I will have at least ONE pop musician which has been favorably reviewed by intelligent people like me. (Prince and others)
19.Queen, Led Zeppelinand Muse can be prog bands if we want to.
20.psychedelic rock/funkbands,metaland post-rockbands are acceptable as long they have some prog hint and some good reputation given by intelligent people like me.Metallica? Sellouts.Megadeth? Much better. You can feel the power of prog on 'em.
21. We, since we are so intelligent, can compare bands like Led Zeppelin or Floyd. In fact, no band is better than Floyd. (see 8,9 and 14)
22. Every song has an hidden meaning which must be revealed through some sort of exhaustive process that will lead us to a higher state than the rest of mortals. Rush couldn't simple put 2112 in an album because they freaking loved to make their fans go mad trying to figure out the meaning. The Pink Floyd Enigma couldn't just be a joke. Zappa's lyrics are worth worshiping because Prog is serious and he's the only one who could break this rule.
