Gorillaz Plastic Beach Stylo

Dopo una lunga attesa di 5 anni ecco quello che può essere considerato un altro capolavoro dei Gorillaz. Il singolo, ma anche l'album intero, suona dannatamente bene. La sensazione più piacevole è senza dubbio quella del ritrovarsi davanti qualcosa di stilisticamente nuovo che non si può inserire in un genere predefinito... anche se non è altro che hip hop, elettronica e pop messi del frullatore e centrifugati. Sarà questa la forza del progetto, elevarsi al di sopra dei vari generi musicali e le rispettive stereotipizzazioni, creando qualcosa che possa essere apprezzato al grande pubblico senza la paura di essere inseriti in una determinata categoria (metallaro, emo, truzzo ecc.), ma mantenendo al contempo una grande qualità musicale. A pensare al Damon Albarn -la mente dei Gorillaz- degli anni '90 con le canzonette Britpop tipo "Girls & Boys" (che comunque adoro) mi viene veramente difficile credere che sia la stessa persona che ha portato avanti un'idea così innovativa, l'avrei immagino più facilmente in una morte artistica alla fine dell'era Britpop...e invece eccolo ancora qui che ci regala (si fa per dire, visto che poi i biglietti per i loro live se li fanno pagare caro) altra bella musica, lode ad Albarn e ai Gorillaz! Happy Mondays ...Yes Please! Sunshine & Love

Certe volte penso di avere gusti un po' troppo particolari, apprezzo lavori che magari la critica stronca senza pietà, ed è proprio il caso di questo singolo degli Happy Mondays, un gruppo forse più famoso per le quantità industriali di droghe ingurgitate dal suo frontman che per i loro lavori. L'album ha avuto uno sviluppo travagliato tra Manchester e le Barbados dove la band avrebbe dovuto partorire la sua creatura tra metadone e crack (tutta la storia viene rappresentata perfettamente nel film "24 Hour Party People). Quando fu ultimato in Inghilterra nello stesso periodo imperversava nelle classifiche un altra band che ne sapeva qualcosa di droghe, i Nirvana, e il sound melodico dai ritmi caraibici dei Mondays sembrava rimasto stilisticamente indietro di almeno un decennio rispetto alla moda del momento. Per fortuna che "il bello è ciò che piace", e con gli album di quei frikkettoni con la flanella negli ombelichi mi ci pulisco il culo, mentre mi godo Sunshine & Love.

Freebass It's A Beautiful Life The God Machine

Prima una veloce presentazione: i Freebass sono un supergruppo formato da ben 3 bassisti, Andy Rourke (The Smiths), Peter Hook (New Order/Joy Division) e Gary "Mani" Mounfield (The Stone Roses/Primal Scream) e il cantante Gary Briggs (Haven). Il progetto è molto interessante e molto audace, ed è senz'altro d'ascoltare per capire come può suonare qualcosa del genere. Personalmente dopo la scioglimento dei New Order aspettavo impazientemente un nuovo lavoro del buon vecchio Hooky, e le mie aspettative sono state in parte esaudite. In questo brano, insieme all'altro "Secrets and Lies" è bellissimo ascoltare il basso di Peter Hook con il suo tocco inconfondibile e il tono altissimo che suona come una chitarra. Purtroppo il resto dell'album è invece abbastanza sottotono, e le scelte dei cantanti che si alternano di brano in brano sono facilmente criticabili. Lode comunque a chi ha il coraggio di osare.

Monaco Monaco Black Rain

Quello dei Monaco è uno dei tanti satelliti che girano nella galassia dei progetti alternativi dei New Order, a guidarlo c'è il grande Peter Hook, bassista dai tempi dei Joy Division in compagnia di David Potts. Questo album l'ho letteralmente consumato, ed il motivo è uno principalmente: l'abilità di Hook con il basso...non lo fa suonare, ma lo fa definitivamente cantare ad alta voce, è esso che detta l'andamento dei brani superbamente, non relegandolo semplicemente a cornice sonora. Black Rain è uno degli esempi più espliciti del virtuosismo di Peter Hook con questo strumento, appena attacca al 15° secondo in un assolo insano si capisce di che pasta è fatta questo simpatico signore inglese, che non contento dimostra anche una capacità canora invidiabile mentre ci racconta di non aver mai pensato che l'amore potesse cadere come la pioggia nel mare, o come esso possa bruciare come il sole.

Hot Chip One Life Stand I Feel Better

L'album One Life Stand segue la strada tracciata dai predecessori, mostrando le affinate capicità tecniche del quintetto londinese. Rafrains contagiosi, strumentazione pesantemente digitale e tanto amore. L'intero album merita molto, ottimo il brano "One Life Stand", che riporterà immediatamente ai vecchi singoli, sia per le capacità rievocative dei video strampalati sia per il suono caratteristico; dolcissima "Alley Cats", e dannatamente '80s "Thieves In the Night" e "Take It In". Capolavoro questa "I Feel Better": Auto-Tune insano che in confronto Cher in "Believe" è afona, strumentazione rubata direttamente da "La Isla Bonita" e tanta capacità ipnotica. I bravi artisti copiano, i grandi artisti rubano (.cit).

Niente di nuovo, niente di strabiliante, ma questo ultimo album degli A-ha suona bene. Sono sempre loro: ottime melodie, uso intenso di strumentazione digitale...il tutto aggiornato alle sonorità attuali, sembra quasi di sentire i Keane e i Coldplay cantare insieme, il che non è assolutamente male.

Album imperdibile per gli amanti del genere con dei pezzi di alta qualità, tra questi ho scelto quello più lento e riflessivo. Bellissima la voce chiara e decisa di Eskil, affascinante come riesce ad evocare atmosfere e luoghi mentali mentre il synth ricrea in sottofondo il suono dei rotori. Gran bel brano, come al solito non per tutti.

Je Suis Le Dieu è uno dei tanti brani quasi esclusivamente strumentali che compongono "Spice Crackers", album appena rimasterizzato e ripubblicato dalla Bureau B. Non è un sicuramente un lavoro per tutti, ma per gli ascoltatori più attenti sarà come un viaggio su comode poltrone in prima classe nell'essenza della musica.
