Former Utopia
Former Utopia are an East London based Rock band signed to Damnably. They've toured throughout the UK, Italy and Europe and shared stages with Shonen Knife,Bottomless Pit, Bitch Magnet, Shannon Wright, Uzeda, Julie Doiron, Bellini and David Grubbs.

John Kennedy XFM Radio: “FANTASTIC!”
Pocket Jury: “The overall highlight is the fantastic ‘Blue Fugue’, which sounds like a collision between Frigid Stars era Codeine and Zuma era Crazy Horse. Building from a lush, unhurried foundation, Gargan executes a blistering Neil Young-esque guitar solo which carries the narrative of the song long after the vocals have stopped. Collapsor is certainly a striking collection of songs and you can’t help but feel that if it takes another four years for a sequel, it will be very much worth the wait.”
Slowthrills “…subtle melodies delivered in an understated baritone vocal coupled with edgy, occasionally heavy guitars. The way the songs creep up on you and develop is reminiscent of that great, often overlooked band Silkworm.”

Funeral of Mankind Promotions and Mean Fiddler present:

MOURNING BELOVETH (IRL)
BLACK MAGICIAN (UK)
THE PROPHECY (UK)
KHTHON (UK)

MOURNING BELOVETH
Death/Doom Metal Titans from Ireland.

The new Mourning Beloveth album, Formless, will be released on DCD and vinyl on February 22nd 2013. An album like no other MB album yet bearing the trademarks we have scraped into the ether over the last 4 releases. It is a journey from the cold sweating centre of the skull to the scratching edges of reality.

...unlike many Doom Metal bands and albums MOURNING BELOVETH manage not to sound pretentious, their pain and torment seem completely genuine and each section manages to convince. The melodic nature of this band, their quality of song writing and their ability to completely change the atmosphere into one of pure dejection. (The Metal Observer)

Ólafur Arnalds + Douglas Dare at St John-at-Hackney Church, London on 3 Jun 2013

Location: St John-at-Hackney Church

BOTW presents Ólafur Arnalds in London

Ólafur Arnalds has built up a huge international following for his genre-crossing compositions, which blend classical, pop and ambient / electronica influences to create a unique musical language. He is also well known for his work on scores for film and television, where he mixes acoustic strings and piano with modern electronic sounds.

For his new album, For Now I Am Winter released on Mercury Classics, Icelandic composer and multi-instrumentalist Ólafur Arnalds adds scope to his genre-crossing combination of minimal sounds and electronic touches by featuring a full orchestra and – for the first time – vocals.

Thalia Zedek solo performance on 13 Jun 2013

Location: Buffalo Bar

Entering her fourth decade as one of the most singular and distinctive voices in rock music, a career that includes playing in influential groups such as Uzi, Live Skull and then Boston alt-rock band Come, Thalia Zedek will be playing a very special intimate live solo gig at the Buffalo Bar in London on 13h June.

In 2001, Zedek began making music under her own name to high acclaim from critics. Expect to hear tracks off her newest solo release 'Via' (released this March via Thrill Jockey), in which Q Magazine called it "Fantastic, emotionally explosive album from one of alt-rock's great voices".

Doors 8pm, with support on the night from Tin Tone Sonic Fascinators and Heather from Black Impulse DJing.

Mogwai: 'Zidane, A 21st Century Portrait' on 26 Jul 2013

Location: Barbican Centre

One of the most beguiling portrayals of an individual in recent cinematic history, Zidane, A 21st Century Portrait is a football film like no other. Using seventeen cameras, the film tracks the legendary French midfielder Zinédine Zidane throughout a 2005 Spanish league match at Madrid’s imposing Bernabéu Stadium — on and off the ball, in the thick of the action and on its periphery. The result, from directors Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno, is a dramatic, hypnotic and deeply beautiful depiction of one of the world’s finest footballers performing on one of the sport’s grandest stages.

The film’s soundtrack was composed by Mogwai, who will be performing it live alongside the movie. The Glasgow quintet have built a deserved reputation for the fearsome intensity of their live performances, and this show offers a unique chance to see them in action, with the premiere at Manchester International Festival and then here in London.

'A hypnotic experience to which you must simply abandon yourself' ★★★★ Guardian

Damnation Festival 2013 on 2 Nov 2013

Location: Leeds University Union

Damnation Festival will proudly host two rare live outings this year, as extreme metal ‘supergroup’ VALLENFYRE and experimental rock ensemble CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX perform at the event.

They will be joined in Leeds University Union on Saturday, November 2, by Romanian progressive black metallers NEGURA BUNGET, English doom trio MOSS and the sonic assault of Paul Catten’s THE SONTARAN EXPERIMENT.

Vallenfyre – featuring members of Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and At The Gates – will play their only UK show of 2013 at Damnation Festival, which will also be their first appearance outside London.

Founding member and vocalist Greg Mackintosh said: “Since our first UK show last year at Boltfest, we have been looking to follow it up with a northern show.

“Being asked to play Damnation Festival provides us with the perfect opportunity. We are looking forward to spreading some filth and meeting up with some old compadres.”

Negura Bunget will also play the festival as an exclusive date.

Drummer Negru said: “Damnation is going to be our one and only UK concert in 2013 so we will definitely make it count!

“Be prepared for a very special Negura Bunget performance, with one of a kind exclusive previews.”

And doom laden Moss also promised to make a lasting impression, as the band said: “It’s been over 10 years since we last played in the north, in a squat in Manchester in front of eight people.

“So we look forward to finally bringing our doom and gloom back to the northern wastes at Damnation.

“You are in for a fucking horrible night.”

Damnation veteran Paul Catten, added: “After waiting patiently for the Sontaran’s turn to play my favourite festival, the moment has arrived finally.

“Expect large amounts of volume, a large slab of doom, blastbeats and electronic noises to batter you from all angles.

“My fourth time at Damnation in four different bands, but nothing will be as painful as what we have in store this time.”

Tickets for Damnation Festival 2013 are on sale now and will be held at last year’s price of £32 until this Sunday, March 31 .
