I've been racking my poor feeble brain, trying to work out how Air managed to get up top of my most played for this week. It's not that I don't like them. I'm pretty much non-plussed (is that right?). Air by name, Air by nature. It's just that I don't have any Air on my computer and then I remembered... the photo shoot! A foreign iPod plugged into my poor puter, messing with me scrobbler. Dang! So how do you get tracks like that out of your charts?

This week's top artists should have been Unrest. I love them, it's not fair. They are much better than Air. Nevermind, my top tracks seem to make sense, check them out instead. The brilliant new Jarvis Cocker track should be right up there. It's brilliant.

I go now. Bit of a useless entry this one. Sorry if you've read down to here and feel cheated and used. Why not check out me podcast, it's called the Antimix Jumble Rumble.

I noticed someone atempting to analyse their Last.fm neighbours and thought it was kind of a neat idea. I mean, you neighbour guys are always there when I check in but I know so little about you. Now, that's not very neighbourly, is it? Then I noticed how low my match percentages were... hmmm, how close are my Last.fm neighbours anyways? It can't hurt to find out, huh...

So the guy I mentioned earlier (I forget his Last.fm name) picked 3 neighbours and then looked at their Top 3 bands. In the name of unoriginality I shall do the same but with the added thingy of looking at their number 1 track as well and assigning them an animal based on this track.

I'm going to skip the first guy too since he is my boyfriend and therefore we share loads of tracks anyways... Here goes nuthin'

Neighbour #1: Smart Arse Butler
Artist #1: Denim
Yay! Denim! I wish Denim was on top of my list. I saw Laurence at the Working Man's Club recently. It was over too soon. I didn't realise how short Go Kart Mozart's tracks actually were!
Artist #2: Pixies
If I'd been plugged into Last.fm since year dot, the Pixies would be top 'o' the tree, with some beating. This girl has class with a captial... um... C?
Artist #3: Islands
I... don't... know... these guys. Housemate says 'not so great'. Nice CD covers though. Denim, Pixies... Islands can't be that bad then. Something to look up. Yay!
Animal Tracks: 'Head Automatica Beating Heart Baby' Don't know this one, says she dances round like a mother to it... hmmm... what's a dancing animal... boyfriend says Praying Mantas' dance... or a bear... what about: a Hummingbird!

Neighbour #2: ohskylab
Artist #1: Stars of the Lid
I hope they're not anything like They Came From The Stars, I Saw Them, (maybe we caught them on a bad night but... yikes!
Artist #2: R.E.M.
I think R.E.M.'s only crime has been to hang around for so long. If only they'd called it a day 6 or 7 years ago or changed their name or something. They just seem to keep going on and on in their comfy seatee sort of way. Next!
Artist #3: José González
The Knife seem to like him even though he rode in on the back of [track]Heartbeats[/track] and that Bravia Ad so I bear him no ill will. Seems like a nice enough (and now very wealthy) chap.
Animal Tracks: 'LCD Soundsystem – 'Tribulations' Love this track. Love. Love. Love. You can be a big cuddly badger, just like James Murphy, I hope that's okay. I like Badgers.

Neighbour #3: jpdamen
Artist #1: Angie Reed
Love this bonkers chick! Sorry, is that disrespectful? I love Angie Reed. What's his favourite Angie Reed track? 'Longest Days in Summertime'! Yay! Looking good!
Artist #2: The Chap
Hey, why isn't this guy further up my neighbour list, how does that thing work anyways? Love the Chap! Yay!
Artist #3: Phiiliip
Hmm... Now, I've seen pictures of Phiiliip (http://buttmagazine.com/Issues/7_Phiiliip.html). Now, I guess I'll have to go listen to him. The whole New York trendster with way too many 'i's and floppy fringe has kinda put me off before. Still if it's good enough for this fine neighbour... seems to be Phiiliip's top fan too... hmmm... maybe 'Pet Cancer' is a good one. I like the name.
Animal Tracks: Goddamn the internet is slow tonight... After all that waiting and it's Phiiliip with 'Summer Collection'. Wow, this guy really rates that Phiiliip. Now, an animal... you can be a Tiger... I don't know why... I like Tigers too.

So that's that, and what have I learned? That my Last.fm neighbours aren't as scary as I thought they might be and that percentages don't count for much. I'd rather keep my neighbours in the low 2 and 3 percentages and find new stuff to listen to than try and align meself with any particular group. That's pretty much the same for anyone here I guess. Still doesn't explain why Red Hot Chili Peppers and Coldplay are always in the Last.fm Top Charts though. That shall forever remain a mystery like a tiny little cut on the roof of your mouth that you can't help tounging... or something... Hey, it's hot and late... I'm finishing this now.

Laters,
M

I thought I'd better write this here entry just in case you were looking at me profile and wondering what was going on.

I'm actually not here at the moment... that is I'm overseas instead of in front of me computer, I think the weekly tracks you can see are my housemates selection, although I could be wrong... they could be PHANTOM entries!! ...I don't know how that would work... anyways...

We've been buying some excellent music on our travels, mainly thanks to Escalator Records <http://escalator.co.jp/>. Which run an awesome little shop and cafe just off the main drag in Tokyo's Harajuku. It's a bit hard to find but the music selection is way cool. They have lots of my favorite record label at the moment, Morr Records <http://morrmusic.com/> who featuring recordings by The Go Find, The Notwist and Mum. I bought a ms john soda CD which is pretty excellent but still not as good as the Notwist (sorry).

The <We are Escaltor Records> series of compilation CDs are very good too. I'm only sad that we couldn't stay in Tokyo for their monthly party. If you are in Tokyo, drop by for dates.

We are now in Melbourne and plan on attending a few boutique-ey nightclubs and stuff whilest were over here and will most likely take the opportunity to to perchase some uber-cheap CDs too.

Anyways I go know... 'Monkey runs free' also means I left my job at the music magazine so I'm a designer without anything to design... any suggestions or offers of employment more than welcome... will travel. :)

Laters.
Michael

I work for a music magazine (not artrocker) based in old London town. I got up this morning after the Christmas office party and realised I hadn't listened to the Artrocker Annual CD yet (after scouring Soho for the latest issue). I put in in me computer and realised how perfect it suited my mood (ie kinda hungover), in fact, how perfectly most of the stuff I'd downloaded from http://www.artrocker.com/ suited just about every situation on most days.
—
These awesome bands and artists needed a group on Last.fm and I needed to join it! ... There wasn't any, so here I am prattling on, not knowing if it's making any sense or if anyone else will care or if I'm just adding to the gigantic mass of useless prattle in the grand blogosphere or... I think I'm hungry... must eat bacon sandwich...
—
Please join me group conceived in the afterhaze of a christmas party and feel free to add your inconcieved prattle to list journal... more the merrier...

With love from your potential venerable leader.

This is my first Last.fm Journal Entry so please be gentle with me. I feel like I've been so overwhelmed with awesome music lately that I have to write about it. The icing on my cupcake was a pressie from a friend yesterday, one that I thought was near impossible to find but knew existed because the Gorillaz had used music from it on their first album. It's the Modesty Blaise Soundtrack, which is my fave film eva! Last.fm has no entry for it... yet but there is an entry for it's composer, John Dankworth if you want to check it out. Warning: It's wacky.

The other musical place I've been visiting and downloading some ace tracks from is http://www.artrocker.com/. They have just put their first Artrocker Compilation up on the site and it's on high rotation on my headphones at work (can you believe I work for a music mag and they play Radio 1 all day!). Apart from campioning one of my fave bands, The Chap, they also have totally excellent tracks from obscure but brilliant bands like Good Shoes, Ladyfuzz, Les Georges Leningrad and The Fog Band.

This just in. I've just recieved the latest Output Recordings Compilation through my letterbox! (I had to order it, even though my bitch-troll editor had an advance copy and gave it to the Press guy to review! I hope he liked it, I meant to ask). The last one wasn't so good but I loved Channel 2 especially Rekindle (they're up to Volume 4 now). Anyways I should head off to work, I'm going to keep posting as long as more awesome music keeps dropping through my slot (?) and I've heard a preview of the new Princess Superstar album which is out next week and it's some of her best stuff ever so stay tuned.

Keep on keeping on,
Michael
