Like most everyone else, I enjoy myself a hip-shakin' sun-records era Elvis any day, but let's face it - he really wasn't all that talented and he wasn't a breakthrough.

When you listen to him, it's very obvious how his music was a whitened version of black blues. Pop music couldn't handle the hot topics and raw emotion of the black musicians; so elvis took it, turned it into some bubble-gum pop the white folks could handle, and it sold like crazy. He wasn't very inventive or original.

Elvis was not the first rock star, he was the first Pop star.
