Red (Taylor Swift) ★★★★★

This is for sure her best work to date. Taylor Swift's Red is an example of how working with different people can make the difference. It's amazing the way she tried to move on her artistic point of view, showing she is not a genre singer but a music artist in general.

Highlights: State of Grace, Treacherous, I Know You Were Trouble, The Last Time, Everything Has Changed and Begin Again.

Two Eleven (Brandy) ★★★★★

Brandy never was one of my favorite artists. But she surprised me with the best material in R'n'B in years. Two Eleven has no bad songs. Amazing lyrics, deep voice. If you want to listen to real and good R'n'B material, you need a copy of this album.

Highlights: Wildest Dreams, No Such Thing as Too Late, Without You, Hardly Breathing, Wish Your Love Away, Can You Hear Me Now? and What You Need.

Take Me Home (One Direction) ★★

Surprisingly a bad record from the band which surprised me this year. It's funny to see them doing this with themselves, because they did a really good job with their previous work. It's catchy, but material is doubtful. Manufactured material.

Highlights: Like While We're Young and Little Things.

Lotus (Christina Aguilera) ★★★

She is back. Christina Aguilera did an awesome job with her new album. Its production is near perfection. At the same time, she needs to take control of her voice. This is the only thing which makes Lotus not attractive at all.

Highlights: Army of Me, Your Body, Blank Page, Best of Me and Just a Fool.

Havoc and Bright Lights (Alanis Morissette)
Alanis é uma das minhas cantoras prediletas. Dessa vez, de forma mais independente, pôde mostrar toda sua qualidade artística. Seu álbum ficou muito bem escrito liricamente, e a produção foi bem superior em relação aos seus lançamentos mais recentes. Foi um álbum muito coerente e com arranjos muito bem executados. ★★★★

Glassheart (Leona Lewis)
Demorou quase que um ano há mais produzindo seu novo álbum... Leona Lewis voltou. Claro que isso foi uma estratégia comercial, assim como foi a retirada do primeiro single do álbum, Collide, do álbum. Glassheart foi só um passo adiante, quando deveria ser a confirmação de Leona enquanto grande artista. Mas é bom vê-la voltando a forma. ★★★

Push and Shove (No Doubt)
O grupo voltou. E foi bom. Mesmo que o álbum tenha se baseado extremamente em um clima de festa, as músicas são bem efetivas. Todas muito divertidas e que com o estilo que já é marca da banda. Talvez não seja um Tragic Kingdom, mas mostrou que eles ainda tem muito a oferecer. ★★★

Babel (Mumford & Sons)
Me surpreenderam. Eles têm um estilo muito interessante. Tem um "q" de The Beatles com Country. É bem interessante ver suas influências, que continuam bastante atuais. Fugindo do meio mainstream, a banda conseguiu realmente fazer uma bela torre de Babel. E ela está coerente, diferente da história bíblica. ★★★★

The Truth About Love (P!nk)
Ela é uma das melhores compositoras da nossa geração. E não temos dúvida disso. Mas ela conseguiu se reinventar em seu novo álbum. Tudo bem que não se comparar ao brilhantismo de I'm Not Dead ou do Funhouse, mas ela conseguiu explicar muito bem a verdade sobre o amor. Músicas românticas e agitadas formaram um álbum muito bom. ★★★★

Claridão (Silva)
Ele é o único artista brasileiro que eu tenho realmente o prazer de ouvir. Disparado o melhor álbum de 2012. Ele não é só mais uma promessa, ele é uma realidade, e está de parabéns! O álbum mistura tendências da década de 1980 com um ar atual, trazendo a brasilidade em cada uma de suas músicas. O uso de suportes tecnológicos fazem com que o cantor que não tem uma voz brilhante consiga brilhar em todo o álbum. ★★★★★

Bom, não foi à toa que sumi daqui. Entre os vários motivos, além da faculdade e do Grand Chase, esse ano foi um tanto desmotivador em relação ao conteúdo fonográfico. Mas finalmente vieram alguns artistas que geralmente são bons (ou pelo menos os considero bons).

Entre as novidades, acho que a criei mais expectativa é o "Havoc and Bright Lights" da Alanis Morissette. Ela já é incrível, gosto da maioria das músicas de sua carreira. Espero me surpreender positivamente com seu novo trabalho.

Além dela, tem P!nk com "Truth About Love", tem No Doubt com "Push and Shove" e "Glassheart" da Leona Lewis. Eu realmente espero que a Leona tenha trago algo de bom dessa vez.

Mas de tudo que eu ouvi nesse ano, sem dúvida alguma o melhor foi o álbum "Claridão" do SILVA. Fazia muito tempo que não estava animado com alguma produção brasileira, afinal, acho tudo muito ruim e não tenho problema algum em falar isso. Ele foi um diferencial e deu certo =).

Katy Perry was one of the most important singers in the charts in last two years. But her number one songs don't show if she is a great artist or singer just because she topped charts. In her Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, her label decided to make her the artist with most number one songs from a single album.
"Teenage Dream" is the strongest song in the album. This vintage vibe and Perry's vocal performance are really good."Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" is quite good song. It's really fun, but her songwriting skills are near the nothing..."California Gurls" is a great upbeat tempo song. This tribute for the "West Coast" was really nice and very well produced."Firework" is a really nice dance track, though it's lyrics are terribly horrible. There's no sense in some parts like: "Baby you're a firework/Come on show them what you're worth"."Peacock" is the catchiest song in the album. And the worst too... "It's so nice" to see how people are treating animals like human body parts..."Circle the Drain" is a wannabe pop rock song. Though its vibe and melody are quite interesting, but there's nothing of "attitude". It's one of the most selfish songs I've ever listened."The One That Got Away" is the backbone of the album. Nice melody and very romantic. The other highlight of the album with the title cut."E.T." is pretty amazing. They worked really well with the beat from "We Will Rock You". The dark climate created by this song is really nice, and lyrics are good compared with her other songs."Who Am I Living For?" is a wannabe pop rock song about apocalypse. Terrible but very catchy."Pearl" isn't a pearl. Boring track with a 80's vibe that was stuck at 80's. Lyrics are very cliché."Hummingbird Heartbeat" is quite boring but well produced."Not Like the Movies" is a good track, but a not good end for an album (considering her first release). The lyrics, in the context of the album, are desilusional and there's nothing of a "dream". Very bad track."The One That Got Away (acoustic)" is terrible. They just show how weak Perry's voice is."Part of Me" is not a catchy song, but really well produced and the lyrics are better compared to her material. A song destined to be a success."Wide Awake" is another good track. Lyrics are simple but more effective than the others songs and the production are 90's like. Good."Dressin' Up" is quite good. It's a pop fluff song which is very similar to "I Gotta Feeling"."E.T. (feat. Kanye West)" is worse than the original. Kanye West was desnecessary."Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) (feat. Missy Elliot)" is another example that Perry's remix are not good."Tommie Sunshine's Megasix Smash-Up" was really terrible and boring. Mash-ups, Megamixes or anything with other name, need a really thorough work. And this was an example of how not to do.Katy Perry is one of the most important acts in the charts, but this does not mean she is a good artist. She doesn't know how to write lyrics well, some are nonsensical. But she knows how to do hits, and with all the production, she generated many number one singles. But this is not enough to be more than just a celebrity: be an artist. Music is really more than this album, but she worked better than her previous release. The re-release was a bit better.

And for a general surprise, Florence + the Machine are back with a new live album: MTV Unplugged - A Live Album. I would never expect a new album so soon.
Only For A Night is a brilliant song, and it was very well performed at MTV Unplugged. A think this was the best song choice to open their show.Drumming Song was very well performed. The song was less intense compared with album's version, but her vocals was pretty amazing.s pretty amazing.Cosmic Love was very interesting, though I think it wasn't her best performance with the song.Breaking Down was really well performed, and this version could a single. I think it was very effective and her voice shows the purpouse of the song.Their current single, Never Let Me Go, is an amazing song and its performance was very nice.The first song they covered in this live album was Try a Little Tenderness and it was pretty good. I loved its arrangement.No Light, No Light was a nice performance. Florence's voice was so good in this song.Jackson (feat. Josh Homme) was the highlight of the album for sure. Josh Homme and Florence Welch voices worked so good together and it made the song sounds so near of the perfection. The song was a proof of Florence + The Machine capacity of being crossover too.What the Water Gave Me performance wasn't her best, but sounded really good at all.Dog Days Are Over and Shake It Out had their arrangement changed a little and it was really amazing. The way these songs sounded was a surprise, and maybe the "cherry on the cake" of the album.There's not too much to talks about this album. It was one of the best MTV Unplugged, specially because the series wasn't good as it was in 90's. Florence + The Machine showed how crossover and done it so right. With some sound problems, it wasn't a perfect album, but it was another really good work from them.Review rating:

Macy Gray is back with her brand new Covered. She is an excellent artist, and her new album shows it. A great selection of covers from various artists.

"Here Comes The Rain Again" is the highlight of this album. The way she sings is amazingly soulful. I think it's hard to change a song like she did, changing its style. And she did it!"Creep" is a very strong song and I think she did really well. Great crossover."You Want Them Nervous" was really good. I think she and J.B. Smooke made it sounds clear."Smoke 2 Joints" was another great cover. And this song helped the album in two ways: the musical variation and originality. Effective. "La la la (Teaching The Kids)" has a very good harmonize. Very beautiful voice and a good introduction for the next song."Teenagers" was a very another very good crossover. I like the melody and how this song worked in her voice."The Power Of Love" is a brilliant track. You can feel what the lyrics talks about."Nothing Else Matters" was good a good track, she shines through the song with her voice. Its production was perfect too."Sail" was another highlight of this album. It's pretty amazing, and it's one of the best tracks to be a single."I Try Is Cool And All, But" was pretty amazing! I loved the way she played with this song. One of the reasons to listen this album is wait to this one."Maps" is not a bad cover at all. But I think it could be more. I felt a little simple and the production is a little confusing."Love Lockdown / Buck" has a very bad production, even her voice sounds a little weird. The song is the worst from the album."Mel Rap" is nice. I don't have too much to talk about this song."Bubbly" is a cute song and Macy wanted to make it sounds more adult and soulful, but it doesn't work so well."Wake Up" was another brilliant cover. She flies in a very good interpretation. It sounds really natural and magical."Really" was a killer track. It's so Macy Gray. I think it's impossible to have a better end to this album than this one.I think the album was in the right way, but some tracks almost destroyed the album. If you like Macy Gray's work, this is a very good album. I think it's a very soulful album. But has some annoying tracks and it's not for everyone.

If the I could choose an album from January to March I'm sure this would be Emeli Sandé's Our Version of Events. She is a new artist in R&B market and her songs are pretty amazing. I was pretty surprised with her material, which is very consistent.

"Heaven" is the best track from Our Version Of Events without any doubt. The song is really good, and makes you fly away with its melody and lyrics. That's what is necessary in music: it's just a simple song, with great lyrics and effective melody."My Kind Of Love" is a nice song, very good to listen. I feel a little nostalgic with this song, and it's good. This sounds like something we lost in 90's and appeared now."Where I Sleep" is like a perfect lullaby with all the soul you could put in a song. And its lyrics is very impressive. It's hard to write songs like this."Mountains" is one of the highlights of the album. The song is the same time so good to listen, very well produced and very radio friendly. This will be a success if it would be released as a single."Clown" has references of 80's and 90's R&B. The piano lead this song to intense feelings."Daddy" is an interesting song, and needs a special attention. The beat of this song is really interesting because it has lots of references, from all the R&B area and Dance influences too. The problem of the song is this mix, though it's a good chance to show people that you can mix different genres of music."Maybe" has some of "Clown" influences and nice lyrics. Maybe it shows a lack of originality. She was "safe" in this song. Its chorus are brilliant, her voice shines through it."Suitcase" is a really good track. The problem of the song is the originality, which was inflicted with no new influences in her material."Breaking The Law" is a very important track in the album. After two track which are rery similar, "Breaking The Law" goes in a slow jam which gives a breathe to the album. This is a masterpiece, and its lyrics are near the perfection."Next To Me" is a really good track. With an upbeat tempo and brilliant lyrics, the song is another highlight of the album. It's a radio friendly song and its success as a single was obvious."River" is another highlight of the album. Its chorus are inspiring and strong. Possibly the best lyrics from a song of the album."Lifetime" has something of European music from 00's. Maybe this track is not brilliant as others, but still nice. I think this song was a little "too" simple."Hope" is the second best track of the album. It's the most romantic song of "Our Version Of Events" and it is really cute in its way. Sandé gives her soul to this song and is so effective with the "I just hope I'm not the only one" sentence, which makes this song so strong."Read All About It (Part III)" is one of these "confusing but amazing" ends we listen in albums. The song is really good, though is not really an end for this album. I think it's her "Someone Like You", as some people has mentioned. But it's different, it's stronger than Adele's ballad. I think this end is something of "I can do more, and I'll show it later" with "I decided to close my album with an amazing track". Another highlight and very deep performance from Sandé.I think Emeli Sandé's debut album is pretty amazing. One of the best debuts in British music history. She has her own way, like Adele, Pixie Lott and Amy Winehouse, which had great debut albums with a very consistent personality. The only problem of "Our Version Of Events" is the originality. Some songs really sounds the same "formula". Apart from this, Emeli Sandé is one of these great new singers that we need in music. If you didn't listened to her, I think you're losing time with desnecessary music. She teaches the hard (and long) way of R&B in United Kingdom through her songs. Simply amazing! She will have a brilliant future.
