=================================================
The Doctor’s Orders have been working hard as ever on getting the very best DJ & live talents down to their monthly party On The Real. Tonight they are over the moon to be joined by The Nextmen for the fist installment of their new quarterly residency at East Village.

If you have not heard one of The Nextmen’s legendary sets in a club, at a festival or on a mixtape at some point during their 10+ years then chances are you’re either certified deaf or crazy. As fun packed as they are eclectic this duo, who first made a name for themselves producing for the likes of London Posse and Blackalicious, know better than many how to blend all styles of music into a cohesive dance-floor friendly blend that leaves you with no option but to shake ya batty! With 4 hours and four decks to work with you can expect a soul tinged mix of anything from Reggae & House to Hip-Hop & Dubstep that reflects not only their tastes but also their ever evolving production style that has been refined across 4 full length albums to date.

While The Nextmen take over the main room our incredible line up of residents are taking over on the ground floor as Spin Doctor, Mr Thing, Chris P Cust and the host with the most MC Prankster keep things straight Hip-Hop as they treat you to bangers new and old all night!

Sergei Rachmaninov: Symphony No.2

London Philharmonic Orchestra
Neeme Järvi conductor
Boris Giltburg piano

Neeme Järvi conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra in a programme of romantic works by Rachmaninov.

Here is the very height of touching, heart-rending romance from the composer who arguably did both those qualities better than any other. There's a reason Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto is his most popular: it's his most rapturous, his most readily moving and his most sweepingly emotive.

There's also a reason his Second Symphony is played more than any of its companions. Here thick, rich textures and sombre harmonies wrap themselves around Rachmaninov's finely contoured melodies, the music smouldering, flaring up and eventually propelling itself towards a whirling, spirited climax. Surrender to the alluring warmth and beauty of Rachmaninov.

2012 BRIT Awards on 21 Feb 2012

Location: O2 Arena

Blur will receive the Outstanding Contribution to Music award at the 2012 BRIT Awards on 21st February 2012, 21 years since the release of debut album Leisure.

“It's great to have recognition for all the work and all the heartache and all the joy that’s gone into this band. ”
Damon Albarn

“Being in a band this long is like a kind of time travel. We’re the same gang we ever were, we’ve just landed in a different era. Or possibly we’re a totally different blur still playing the old tunes in 1991… forever. I haven’t decided. But it’s always nice to get a Brit Award.”

ATARI TEENAGE RIOT TO HEADLINE ARTROCKER PRESENTS THE ENERGY SESSIONS

German legends, and pioneers of the digital hardcore sound, Atari Teenage Riot will be playing their first UK show of 2012 at a special Energy Sessions hosted by Artrocker, at The Garage, on February 29th 2012.

The band’s ferocious mix of hardcore punk, pounding techno and hip-hop made them alternative legends in the nineties and, since their reunion in 2009, they have continued to rage against the machine. 2011 saw the release of “Is This Hyperreal?”, the band’s first full album of new material in twelve years, and a true return to form.

This landmark, intimate gig will be the first instalment of 2012’s Energy Sessions, and will be curated by music mag, Artrocker. Support comes from rising punk duo, run, WALK!.

Daylight Music - Second Language presents Piano Magic, Mark Fry Áine O'Dwyer on 3 Mar 2012

Location: Union Chapel

FREE ENTRY midday - till 2.00pm

Daylight music is a dazzling idea presented by the Union Chapel to open up their amazing gothic venue to a shiny new daytime crowd and provide a rather exciting platform for artists. Produced by Arctic Circle and supported by The 405.

Second Language is a new kind of record label dedicated to releasing the best in innovative contemporary music, cutting across international boundaries and genres from post-classical composition and electronic sound design to singer-songwriting, soundtrack music, plunderphonics and all stations in between.

Piano Magic

Despite a plethora of records released since their formation in 1996, you can be forgiven for never having heard of Piano Magic. This Anglo-French 5 piece group operate happily beneath the radar of the contemporary music industry. Though they've toured everywhere from Russia to Spain, Poland to Turkey, their audience is that rare breed - concerned with emotion, not hype; experimentation, not formulas. Indeed, the sonic trajectory of Piano Magic is dizzying. Their records have taken in Kraftwerkian electronica, baroque pop, visceral noise and an icy isolationism not rendered so convincingly since the demise of Joy Division. Their new album, 'Life Has Not Finished With Me Yet' is out on Second Language in early 2012.

Mark Fry

Mark Fry was born in 1952 into a family of artists and Quaker philanthropists that included the Bloomsbury group painter and critic Roger Fry. His father is the painter Anthony Fry. On leaving Dartington Hall School in 1970 he enrolled at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence where he studied under the Futurist Primo Conti.

During his Itailain sojourn, Mark recorded some of his own songs with a cabal of itinerant Scottish musicians. The resulting album, entitled Dreaming With Alice, was released by RCA Italy in 1971 and its reputation has grown inexorably ever since. It is now recognized as a seminal work of psychedelic folk.

Latterly based in Normandy, with an established career as a painter, Mark made a tentative return to music in 2007 with the album Shooting the Moon, and subsequently teamed up with Michael Tanner (Plinth) and Nick Palmer (Directorsound) to record a new record, I Lived In Trees, released by the Second Language label in 2011. A major critical success, the album's pastoral hues and reverie-like lyrics make it the logical follow-up to Dreaming With Alice, a mere thirty years later.

Áine O' Dwyer

Áine O' Dwyer is a musician currently based in London. As a young girl, she lived in the quiet Irish countryside where the hours were long, and as consequence, she grew up with a love of loosing herself in the world of sound and atmosphere making.
Áine has been a long standing member of United Bible studies, an Irish free folk improv collective and enjoys playing with several other groups locally and around the world. She has just recently finished an organ improv project, "Music for church cleaners", which will be released early in the new year by the newly established Irish tape label Fort Evil Fruit.

A fundraiser for the indie/comedy legend, Frank Sidebottom. The man underneath the papier mache head, Chris Sievey, sadly, died on June 21st 2010, after a short battle with cancer. Now, the FRANK SIDEBOTTOM STATUE FUND has been set up in an attempt to raise £60,000 for a bronze statue of Frank, which will be placed in Timperley Village as a permanent tribute / memorial. More details about Frank, the fund and how you can donate in the meantime, can be found here. http://www.franksidebottom.org.uk/site/

We miss Frank and we want the campaign for a statue to succeed. He put Timperley on the map. You know he did, he really did. And he was an enormous influence and inspiration to a great many people. Not to mention, a fantastic bloke.See more

An Evening With Joan Baez on 16 Mar 2012

Location: Royal Festival Hall

Since she began her legendary residency at Boston's famed Club 47 and made her debut at the 1959 Newport Folk Festival, Joan Baez remains a musical force of nature whose influence is incalculable.

She marched on the front line of the civil rights movement with Martin Luther King, sang on the first Amnesty International tour and stood alongside Nelson Mandela when the world celebrated his 90th birthday in London's Hyde Park.

Her earliest recordings fed a host of traditional ballads into the rock vernacular, before she unselfconsciously introduced Bob Dylan to the world in 1963 and focused awareness on songwriters ranging from Woody Guthrie, Dylan, Phil Ochs, Richard Fariña, Tim Hardin, Kris Kristofferson and Mickey Newbury, to Dar Williams, Richard Shindell, Steve Earle and many more.

ELECTRIC WIZARD, the undisputed dark lords of British Doom Metal announce a special night of pure psychedelic horror at The HMV Forum in London on Saturday 31st March, featuring a mind-bending lightshow, handpicked 'heavy friends' providing supporting music and delirious, continuous projections of horror, exploitation and evil grindhouse loops from the bands personal collection!

This show sees the bands meteoric rise continue with what will be there biggest UK headline show, the first in London since 2010’s SOLD OUT show at The Electric Ballroom and the release of their critically acclaimed LP 'Black Masses'.

Chick Corea and Gary Burton on 11 Apr 2012

Location: Barbican Centre

Chick Corea joins forces with vibes player Gary Burton, in a rare reappearance of one of the most absorbing jazz partnerships around. This remarkable collaboration between two of jazz’s longest-standing musical pioneers created the landmark album Crystal Silence in 1972, and has proceeded to grow, flourish and produce no fewer than three Grammy-Award winning albums over the ensuing years. Their latest offering is Hot House, due to be released on Concorde Records in early 2012, and the duo will perform both original music from this album as well as past works.

Location: The indigO2

A band for outsiders, by outsiders', as their lead singer once said, Placebo have sold over 10 million records, recorded six studio albums and have seemingly been touring the world consistently for the past decade, headlining festivals and arena’s around the world.

The band will perform on Saturday 28th, making up one of four nights of music as part of Sundance London.

"As a band, we follow our own philosophy of making the music we want to make, putting faith in our songs and records. The Sundance Film Festival has been championing similar likeminded people for over 30 years and encouraging them to put faith in their own talent. Were huge film fans and delighted to be part of the inaugural Sundance London festival."

Placebo return to the studio next year to begin work on their 7th studio album.

George Michael - Symphonica: The Orchestral Tour *RESCHEDULED DATE* on 2 May 2012

Location: Royal Albert Hall

Rescheduled from Wednesday 26 October 2011

George Michael returns to the stage as we've never seen him before. He will perform a carefully chosen selection of his own songs, spanning all his remarkable, near 30-year career, as well as covers of some of his favourite songs from other artists, with music being re-worked and re-arranged for the orchestra which will accompany him.

Symphonica: The Orchestral Tour will be his first European dates since the widely acclaimed 25Live tour concluded in 2008.

A much-loved, enduringly popular figure in music, George Michael has seen his career evolve from the era-defining pop of Wham! to a solo career of extraordinary lyrical beauty, genuine emotional depth and life-affirming melody.

Please note: ticket limit of 6 tickets per concert per customer; age limit of no under 5s.

Tinariwen + José González on 3 May 2012

Location: Shepherds Bush Empire

Soundcrash presents a one-off joint headline show for the desert soul rebels Tinariwen and cosmopolitan folk singer/songwriter José González. An utterly unique night of musical excellence you don’t want to miss.

You’ve got to be doing something right when you can count amongst your fans the likes of Thom Yorke, Brian Eno, Carlos Santana or TV On The Radio. Formed in rebel training camps in Libya, these exiled nomads-turned-rockstars of the Sahara have become the soundtrack for Touareg independence and reconciliation, combining traditional Touareg melodies with Malian, Western, Berber and Arabic influences to create spare, evolving, hypnotic grooves. As if Keith Richards, Santana, John Lee Hooker, various members of Primal Scream, Mogwai and the Grateful Dead had got lost in the Sahara for a decade and then returned as a fully-fledged desert band.

José González, whose family fled their Argentinian homeland bound for Sweden when the military Junta came into power, provides a perfect counterpoint to the hypnotic relentlessness of Tinariwen’s grooves. Being exposed to latin-american melodies from an early age and drawing from the idiosyncrasies of Scandinavian folk José González’s music is a unique hybrid which takes the best of both worlds. Both poignantly beautiful and subtly warm, José González will win over your heart and mind.

Concerts don’t get any better than this. Two hugely reknowned acts come together for the first and only time tonight at The Shepherd’s Bush Empire for a very, very special show. Be there.

Launching the UK festival season each spring, London’s award winning Camden Crawl has become a calendar fixture renowned for showcasing the forthcoming year’s most hotly tipped live music artists to sell out audiences since its inception in 1995. In fact, over the years, each of the following artists played the festival when they were little known start ups launching their careers: Mogwai, Beth Orton, Snow Patrol, Hot Chip, Maximo Park, The Cribs, Mystery Jets, Plan B, Klaxons, Maccabees, Guillemots, Paolo Nutini, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Biffy Clyro, Foals, Friendly Fires, Kate Nash, Example, Frank Turner, Laura Marling, Professor Green, Florence & The Machine, Mumford & Sons, Kano, Noah & The Whale, , The XX, The Temper Trap, The Drums, Eliza Doolittle, Katy B, Maverick Sabre and the list goes on…

Now in its 11th year, the Crawl continues to act as a conduit for the best emerging artists to appear alongside surprise guests and seminal legends in front of die-hard music lovers, music industry and media under one umbrella. The event prides itself in making live music and the arts affordable and accessible to everyone and, equally, aims to grow community between the artists appearing, fans and the independent promoters behind the scenes. In order to do so, the Crawl maintains a policy to democratically book talent via a diverse committee of UK tastemakers and promote its artists on a level playing field. And, to further enhance exposure for performers and create unique value for punters, the ticket price includes a free download compilation album, magazine and programme guide featuring the talent appearing at the festival.

In 2007, the festival expanded across a weekend and has, by day, now become a sprawling multi faceted arts event featuring comedy & spoken word, film, pop quizzes, eclectic live music, crafts & art workshops, karaoke, exhibitions and more. By night, the two mile-long stretch of pavement assumes its annual position as an all out live music extravaganza playing host to more than 250 of the best new talents performing across the area’s infamous venues.

Einstein on the Beach on 5 May 2012

Location: Barbican Centre

Widely credited as one of the greatest artistic achievements of the 20th century, this rarely performed work launched its director Robert Wilson and composer Philip Glass to international success when it was first produced at the Metropolitan Opera in 1976.

It is still recognised as one of their greatest masterpieces. Now, nearly four decades after it was first performed and twenty years since its last production, Einstein on the Beach will be reconstructed bringing this ground-breaking work to new audiences and an entirely new generation.

Einstein on the Beach breaks all of the rules of conventional opera. Instead of a traditional orchestral arrangement, Glass chose to compose the work for the synthesisers, woodwinds and voices of the Philip Glass Ensemble. Non-narrative in form, the work uses a series of powerful recurrent images as its main storytelling device shown in juxtaposition with abstract dance sequences created by American choreographer Lucinda Childs. It is structured in four interconnected acts and divided by a series of short scenes or “knee plays”. Taking place over five hours, there is no intermission, however the audience is invited to enter and exit at liberty during the performance

Elvis Costello The Imposters + Elvis Costello at Royal Albert Hall, London on 24 May 2012

Location: Royal Albert Hall

The legendary singer-songwriter is joined by his 'Spectacular Spinning Songbook' as his Revolver tour comes to the Hall.

An overture of five uninterrupted rock and roll tunes announces Elvis Costello and the Imposters to the stage, after which members of the audience are invited to spin the gigantic vaudevillian contraption to select the next song.

Fortune may deliver such hits such as Oliver’s Army, Shipbuilding and Watching The Detectives, hidden gems from the Costello songbook including Town Cryer or tunes by The Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash and, of course, Bob Dylan’s This Wheel’s On Fire.

The Los Angeles Times described the show as “the kind of uniquely invigorating experience that warrants a buzzword all of its own; inspiring.”

Gallon Drunk on 25 May 2012

Location: Nambucca

Acclaimed British band Gallon Drunk return with the dynamic new album, “The Road Gets Darker From Here”. Recorded at Clouds Hills Recordings in Hamburg during the summer of 2011, produced by Johann Scheerer (Faust/Robots In Disguise), the band bring the considerable power of their renowned live performances to the new record.

Featuring founder frontman and former Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds member James Johnston (vocals, organ, guitar, harmonica, piano, and bass), Terry Edwards (bass, saxophone and percussion) and Ian White (drums, percussion), the trio have refocused their utterly distinctive musical vision with a collection of impassioned songs, imbued with pure mania, despair and abandonment.

With the band members’ own recent experiences, playing and recording with the likes of Lydia Lunch’s Big Sexy Noise, Faust, Nick Cave, Tom Waits and The Tindersticks, this has brought an open minded freshness to the album.

From the insistent, slide guitar driven ‘1,000 Years’, through the exhilaratingly sleazy, deranged rock ‘n’ roll of ‘You Made Me’ (the first 7” inch single to be released from the album), the menacing melancholia of ‘Stuck In My Head’ (featuring French singer Marion Andrau of Underground Railroad), to the desperate eruption of guitar fury of ‘Hanging On’, this is classic, unfettered Gallon Drunk.

“Gallon Drunk? Cool as fuck.” - Nick Cave

Level 42 at Royal Albert Hall, London on 28 Oct 2012

Location: Royal Albert Hall

Level 42 took the '80s by storm with their brand of bass driven jazz funk that came from the underground soul scene of wedge hair cuts, pegged trousers, sharp shoes and soul patrols.

The band's funk influenced riffs became synonymous with the '80s as much a part of the decade's culture as shoulder pads, puffed hair, red braces and the rubiks cube.

Their success in record and ticket sales, chart positions and awards is only half the story, the band left a legacy amongst a generation of 70s teenagers who had been bought up on US funk and disco that saw there was life on the UK scene with home grown acts; their music has been regularly remixed and they continue to have their bass lines and keyboard melodies interpreted by present day acts.

Their hits include Running In The Family, Lessons In Love, Leaving Me Now, Hot Water & Something About You.
