The Miami Vice Theme by universally acclaimed New Wave superstar legend genius Jan Hammer, is undoubtedly one of the most important songs of the twentieth century.

Created in 1984 during a cocaine-fueled weekend orgy, this song directly contributed to the fall of the Soviet Union and the rise in popularity of pastel toned Armani suits.

As the synthesized guitar winds up like the rotor blades of a Huey, one cannot help but reflect on the thousands of Vietnamese women and children that were helplessly mowed down as their relatives hid in tunnels waiting to ambush the American GIs.

The three beats on the Timpani will cause the hair on the back of your neck to stand, your body stiffening as you recall the drug deal that almost went bad. Surrounded by Mac-10 wielding latinos, you had to play it cool. Cool like Crockett.

Cool is what this theme has. It has it in Kilos. If you could remove a piece of this song and place it within a beaker, the test results would come back 99% pure cool. You could chop up a less cool song, perhaps the theme to Knightrider, or the A-Team theme, then mix it into this song, and it would still have a high percentage of cool.

This theme rose to the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, and also won two Grammys. This theme, along with Jan Hammer's other blockbuster, Crockett's Theme, helped the Miami Vice Soundtrack stay top of the charts for eleven weeks, making it the most successful TV soundtrack of all time. (Until 2006, when it was beaten by the homoerotic "High School Musical" soundtrack.)

The perfect song to listen to while evading the feds on your go-fast boat, this catchy tune will get you pumped up and ready for the inevitable shootout between yourself and the guys wearing hawaiian shirts.

Clearly better than the themes to "Magnum PI" or the more recent "Entertainment Tonight",
I give this 5 out of 5.
