Sat 30 Mar – Wilt, Noir, Arctic Circle

Local black metal! Better then I hoped for actually. The show took place at the Rudolf Rocker Cultural Centre, which was a floor above War on Music, where I purchases ...An Overdose Of Death by Toxic Holocaust.

The show started with Noir. They were good, but their songs were long as hell! They might've played 3 songs. I'm not too sure really, but they were alright. Couldn't hear the singer at all though, the vocals were drowned in the bass/guitar.

Arctic Circle were up next. I think they were my favourite of the night, and perhaps I was in a better position at that time, but I could actually here the singer's squeal and yells. Their songs were faster and shorter, so I got in to it more. They played songs off of their upcoming album, and I liked them a lot. After their first song the lights randomly went off, and they had to put the room's light on. the drummer didn't approve, saying "putrid" then put his hat on backwards, and you knew shit got serious. The bassist also kept dropping his pick and it was amusing. Solid 10/10 for Arctic Circle.

Wilt were up last, and I liked the singer's vocals the best. Their songs were long too, but I found them to be interesting since you could make out the black metal shrieks. "Ancient runes run DEEEEEEP!" They only had 4 songs, so I was disappointing that the show was only around half an hour.

Solid show from all the bands, I'd see them live again. Though not at Rudolf Rocker Cultural Centre, the bassist of Arctic Circle didn't approve of carrying the amps and shit down three flights of stairs.

Coheed and Cambria opened this concert up, playing songs I didn't know until they did a cover of Heaven and Hell, which IMO was the only good song they did. After a few songs, the singer stated "we're Coheed and Cambria from New York". I was ok with this, but he went on to restate that about 10 times after each song and before they left. He sounded like a woman. They had a lame blue background with one circle in the back. Wasn't too impressed with them. About an hour later after the booze were refilled and the already piss drunks had pissed security off, Blue Cheer's Doctor Please began to play, and the crowd went nuts. Then Bruce Dickinson came out, and the night started to get better.

Maiden then came out, and opened up with the song "Moonchild" Between the volume of the band, mixed with the somehow louder crowd, you couldn't hear Bruce except for the chorus where he wails child and the end of the word Moonchild. The next song was "Can I Play With Madness" and the crowd somehow got even more crazy! Throughout this song Bruce interacted with the fans quite a bit, more then he actually sung. The crowd didn't really mind at all,and neither did I.They played "The Prisoner" next, a song I didn't expect them to play. Afterwords, the band, except for Bruce, left the stage and Bruce talked with the crowd for a few minutes. They played "Fear of the Dark" and then "Afraid to Shoot Strangers". At this point the crowd had sort of calmed down, and people around me began to sit. That changed quickly, because they played "The Trooper" after, and the crowd went ballistic again. Everyone, including me, was singing a lot for the rest of the show. Wasted Years, Run To The Hills and Number of the Beast were played after, and then Bruce peaced from the stage. He came back on top of the structure behind Nicko McBrain, and they played "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" probably the best song of the night. During this song, a bra flew up on stage, which Adrian Smith put on his guitar. They closed with "The Clairvoyant", which had to be one of my favourite songs performed that night. The concert fucking ruled, can't wait to see them again! \m/
