I've been writing every February 6th my last.fm birthday journal, but last year I totally forgot. This year I'm only one day late.

So this is the 5-year mark for me. If my last.fm account was a child, she would tease all the boys in the kindergarden at the moment I suppose. Last.fm has been an eye-opener many times during these years. Nowadays I just don't scrobble that much, so I'm not gonna throw any statistics on last year artists or tracks. I just tell you guys how I feel.

Last year I TOTALLY fell in love with Seattle hiphop scene. I did listen to Blue Scholars, Common Market and Macklemore earlier too, but now my knowledge and love on Seattle is beyond the words.

Macklemore with his producer Ryan Lewis are the hottest duo right now for me. I've been hyping Atmosphere of course too cause it's my all time favorite. I'm not unraveling too much, so you should just listen yourself. You could start with The Town, My Oh My, Wings or Otherside. Just anything is beyond awesome. My Oh My and The Town has CRAZY music videos too. Check 'em out. Zia Mohajerjasbi does a lot videos for Seattleites. Blue Scholars, Jake One, Common Market and Macklemore for example.

Other hot artists from Pacific Northwest includes Knowmads, Gabriel Teodros, Abyssinian Creole, TOM PEPE and Dyme Def. And not forgotting the producer of the Scholars and Common Market, Sabzi is awesome.

And what the hey. I live in Finland myself. See you in Seattle Seattleites in maybe a few years. That's my goal.

I will apologize my english writing skills early on so you don't have to flood your disses on the comments. So cut the bullshit and let's cut to the chase.

Hip-hop going international. It's not 70's or 80's anymore. We got asia, europe and even australia and africa doing some hip-hop these days.

3. Australia

Hilltop Hoods and the whole Funkoars collective are running the australian underground hip-hop scene down under. Very groovy shit with a bit of funky beats. The accent is bearable even I'm not used to hear that kind of english but I like it. You should try 'em if you haven't heard 'em yet. The scene there isn't that huge but these artists makes it worth to check. Funkoars consists of loads of australian artists and Hilltop Hoods is one of them. All of them spits sick shit. The Herd isn't that bad either. Excellent beats with excellent wordplay and a flawless flow. They're touring with a live band and it fits perfectly for them just like The Roots. There is one solo artist that I like also and it's Urthboy. Deeper underground there's more crazy cats like these. Just keep digging.

2. Canada

Different from Australia, in Canada there's much more crazier MC's but the production isn't that flawed in Canada in my opinion. There is some artists with dope beats though. For example Abdominal, Shad and Sweatshop Union are overall just excellent. Even if K-Os is close to being an underground legend, I've never got into it that much. Gotta be ashamed of myself. Wordburglar has some of the craziest lyrics in the scene and he's not taking this hip-hop thing too seriously. That's good. Classified is maybe my favorite artist in Canada. Spits nicely and his production is brutal. Gotta respect it cause he makes his own beats. Never got into Swollen Members that much cause of its darkness (?) but Moka Only from Swollen Members is nice. I know there's much more cats in Canada to talk about but let's stick to the underground. We can debate though who's underground and who's not. K'naan? Ok, he's good.

1. Sweden

There it is. Not that bigger scene but it's hella tight! In this journal we talk about MC's who spits only in english so... Supersci is overall suberb, Promoe with his groups (Looptroop Rockers and the previous Looptroop) is suberb, Timbuktu and Prop Dylan, just excellent. I'm not even talking that much about them but the lyrics, flow, production and all are just over the top. Period.

In Finland we have just Redrama and Paleface. Just giving shoutouts to them cause there's not that many MC's who spits it in english here. By the way, they're not even good. Just a couple of tracks are worth listening. We have our hip-hop scene in the kiddo's shoes here so... not good.

I know I've forgotten excellent artists here (even the ones I do listen and respect) but the bus is 5 minutes away from my house. I didn't even pre-read this shit. Feel free to comment and debate about my opinions. It's nice to have a conversation.

I don't know what I'm gonna write here but I did it last year too, so...

When I check my charts from last 12 months I see that Atmosphere was THE SHIT last year ! They dropped their newest album, When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold back in April, so I listened that A BIT much and I had their discorgaphy too on my computer... You know the rest, check 'em out if you haven't heard 'em yet (which I heavily doubt).

The year 2008 wasn't that hot to me musically because of my army thing that lasted from July to early January so I couldn't discover very much new music back then.

At the second place last year there was Blue Scholars. They didn't drop much shit last year. Only some EP stuff and videos but I discovered those guys back in twenty-oh-seven and that was so fresh that I've listened the Scholars almost every day from then.

At the 4th place of last year there's Common Market. They has the same producer that Blue Scholars has, only the MC is different. Their wordplay is superb! You should check 'em out. Sabzi on the cut produces crazy joints to both Blue Scholars and Common Market so every track is worth listening.

Then some individuals that I should notice so the diversity of my musical taste stays on the humane state.

In the 5th place there is a super chill piano rock band Socratic. That's some stuff you put on the boombox and chill with your friends layin' on grass and doin' some nothing whole day. Nothing specific mentions here but check it out.

Inside the Top 10 there's umm... melodichardcorerockpunkorchestra (we all love last.fm tags, don't we?) Rise Against. I've been listening to those guys since I was a kiddo playin' Tony Hawk. They dropped a new album last year but I mostly listened their older stuff. That's why they are at my top ten year after year. They're on the spot 9.

The 7th place goes to Nujabes. He's a Japanese producer that produces some way more chill stuff than your favorite producer! Can't say anything interesting about him but he just confirms that I've been listening too CHILL music last year. I just should listen some hardcore metal this year (not)...

Other artists on the Top 10: Ivan Ives, Masta Ace, Nas and the only Finnish act Pyhimys. As Ivan Ives is Russian guy, there's a nice diversity on the countries. There's some Canadian, Japanese, American, Finnish, Russian...

The most listened track last year was way too easily Valehtelija. A local girl rock / pop band that's on their way to the top. I got their first demo last year and that track is from that demo. The second place holds Summon the Clouds. Poor Jim is from my neighbour city and I discovered them from MySpace when I was looking for acts that could play in a rock concert that me and some other guys held in our town. Guys rocked though we had such a crappy audience. At the third place Rock to It is earned its place there. Crazy canadian guy with crazy flow and crazy track.

I'm so tired now so I just put the Top 3 albums from last year here.
