So, I just discovered that the playlist players are vanishing for subscribers. I'm kinda' bummed about that, though on the bright side, the only reason I subscribed was to have the players handy - so that's some cash in my pocket I wouldn't have otherwise.

I must admit, this announcement really got me thinking. I mean, for your dollars, what do you now get that you don't as a none subscriber? Personally, the extra crud that I get as a subscriber is all (apart from the previously mentioned playlists) well, crud. I don't care about the black icon, I don't care about the toys, I really only want to be able to look at my listening patterns, to be introduced to new artists and to be able to access my tunes through a wireless device anywhere where I can connect. Alas, that last one was the biggie.

Bah.

i do know that much as I like the whole seeing what I have been listening to thing, and the being introduced to new artists thing, I would not pay £3 a month for the honour, so if that comes to be, I guess I'll be saying "farewell".

Anyway, just thought I would pen a quick moan, as I felt motivated for once. Yay!

Hello you, it's been a while since I wrote anything here, but having just deleted a load of baffling comments from it, I thought i would make a quick post.

Okay, not sure what "Underwater" is, but no, I am not in any way affiliated with it...not even aware of what "it" is...not really interested in finding out either, and even less interested in being used as some kind of spam advertising outlet for them or their representatives. Hope that sorts that out.

Blocked my first user today. These two announcements are connected.

Now, what I have been listening to a lot lately is Bibio. I first heard about this artist a long time ago when it was being bigged up as Boards of Canada's preferred listening, and at the time, I wasn't impressed. However, whilst listening to recommended music on this very site, a song came up that made my ears prick up, and to my surprise it was Bibio! Curiousity got the better of me, and soon I had purchased a few albums, which I have to say, I have been thoroughly enjoying.

Oddly enough, I have been listening to a bit of death metal lately. Back in the early 90's I was the lead "singer" for a death band, and I used to be seriously into it. As I got older, my tastes changed, and I became the IDM loving monkey I am today. However, I have, over the last week or so, been in the mood for some Morbid Angel, early Amorphis and Bolt Thrower, and have been indulging a little.

Also came across Piano Creeps by Mary Lorson & Billy Coté, which is pretty cool; late night, fogbound listening which conjures vaguely nightmarish moods. In other words, great stuff.

And that's it really. Hopefuly there will be no more random spamming.

See you soon!

Ugh. I've had the dreaded pig pox, and cannot recall feeling as unwell as that in my entire life!

Did experience some strange moments whilst running a fever though, the most memorable for me being the afternoon when I was convinced that someone had stolen some of the inches from my TV's screen diameter. Don't ask me who...or why...or how...but they had...I could see it...it was missing...

The most frustrating thing about that was knowing deep down that what I was seeing was impossibly, and knowing that I was really poorly, and was just experiencing the world in a less than real manner, whilst simultaneously KNOWING that they THEY had STOLEN MY TV'S INCHES!!!!!

Whilst running a delightful fever the same night I also heard the damn removal men moving heavy cupboards about in my pillows, which was bloody inconsiderate.

Anyway, just wanted to share. Funnily enough, not been listening to much of anything due to anything being painful and unpleasant (Tamiflu? Insta-Puke-A-Tron they mean).

I can confirm however, that the new Christ. album has gone from okay to nice. Not much of a step up, but a step up at that!

Just need to shake the resdual chest infection I have now...so I'll be on my way...

Gnac (a.k.a Mark Tranmer) has two new offerings, both of which I have picked up today.

The first Red Pages is a lovely collaboration between GNAC & Alessandra Celletti, and is a glorious piano journey through the starry, and at times, slightly creepy tunes that have made GNAC a firm, firm favourite of mine over the years.

The second album was released literally 2 minutes ago on iTunes and Amazon; Scoop of Ice Cream Moon, and so far, I have only heard the previews of the tracks (which sounded lovely indeed).

I'm hoping I have found some mood music for my late night writings, and that I can find something on these to make the good shudders happen.

Was quite disappointed in Christ.'s new album Distance Lends Enchantment to the View. Not actually bad or anything, just really, really forgetable. Pretty gutted really, but will give it a few more listens before I put it on ice for a few years (and then probably decide I love it).

Still waiting for Our Valley to drop their album, which, if the samples on their site are anything to go by, will be exactly my kind of fuzzy, nostalgic electronica. There is also a new Boreal Network ep on the way (Phase With The Moon), which I am looking forwards to very much.

Did I mention that the last Jega album, Variance was really good?

No?

Well it is - though I prefer the darker, more twisted first disc to the crazier, Aphex-esque second one (though that one is aweseom too). Particular favourites are SoulFlute and Sakura; quality murky goodness!

Anyway, the GNAC album has finished downloading, so it's time to have a little listen I think!

Night!

I've been thinking today, about how it has been a while since a new track made me sit up and shiver with delight. I have bought a fair bit of new stuff lately, and it's all been quite nice, but...none of it has made me go "wow", which is a damn shame, because I love that feeling.

So, that's why I have not been posting much. Still listening to the usual stuff, and occasionally to odds and ends I listen to less commonly. It's odd how the tunes you listen to at one point in your life suddenly take a back seat. I used to always be playing Prefuse 17, Portishead and Orbital...now, it's a rarity that I am in the mood for them, though I still really like their stuff. Only true "deep within my soul" artists still get the regular plays; Boards of Canada, Fieldtriqp, and a few others you can easily work out from my play counts.

Do you find the same thing, or is it just me? Has anything made you go "wow" lately, or are we in some kind of musical lull at the moment, where everything is nice, but not awesome?

Sad news about Benbecula records closing their doors on November 1st. Glad their back catalogue is still going to be available though.

For some reason, I have not had much music on lately, which considering that I normally have something playing constantly is a bit weird. It's even weirder when you consider I have been writing a lot, and as a general rule I have to have some tunes playing when I write, if only to divorce my brains from this mundane world, and to help them sink into the darkling place from where my imaginings spring.

Anyway, as I write this, I am actually listening to the latest One on Twosim, which is another beauty (DOWNLOAD). So far special mention has to go to Saturday Index and Boreal Network for their tracks, though the rest (up to this point) has been perfect summer dusk music.

I have pre-ordered the new Christ. album, and am hoping to buy the new Implosion Quintet CD when I get back from my wanderings in Wales and Anglesey (It comes out the day after my birthday). The hard copy version of Gabriel's simply stunning album Roads We Travel arrived and has delighted just as much as the digital release. if you haven't downloaded the free version at least, you are insane.

Oooooh, what's this? A track on One on Twoism vol.3 by an artist naming themselves Picnic at Cathode Lake...man, this is awesome...nice bubbling electronic babble like a lonely computer muttering to itself ...and now a mournful, quite lovely track with electronic and acoustic sounds coming together perfectly named "Winter" by Underwater. Ace.

Anyway, download those albums, enjoy your summer, and I shall see you soon.

I can't comment too much as I am still on my first listen through (right this very instant), but so far, this has been one of the most lovely albums I have heard in a very long time.

It's simply wonderful; the sound of 1980's maths programmes, mingled with blurry polaroids of forgotten childhood holidays and the optimistic possibilities of the first morning of the six weeks holidays. Really making me smile this one.

My descriptions a bit crap? Then Check it out for yourself.
