To view the latest newsletter, visit
http://heofthehouse.com/newsletter/electronic/008/

For the first time since March of 2010, we are beyond ecstatic to officially announce our return with the release of William Bowers' EP "Post Modern", our first proper output.

This kicks off our new cataloguing system, RELIC XXX, and implements a whole new set of standards and ideals.

Without further ado, we present RELIC 001;

http://hautemagie.com/home

William Bowers, "Post Modern"
Format: CD
Edition: 1st pressing | 100 copies
Running time: 0:33:13
Release date: Monday, May 30th 2011
Housed in: Replicated CDs in black matte four panel Digipaks with artwork by D.S. Ciarán

From his inception to the world of experimental sounds, Green Bay, Wisconsin's William Bowers has always been a fickle friend to both the buzzing soliloquies of mechanised Noise and the soothing throw-back remnants of modernised electronica and pop. Even with his initial project, Christgau's Last Stand, a raucous, relentlessly harsh and almost punk-based outfit formed for no other reason than to expel a few aural daemons, I could always hear the want and need to grasp the hand of melody and structure, and break a few bones in the process.

CLS put down its gloves and donned the appropriate cap to graduate into the more temperamental world of Narshe, a project dedicated to midnight black-tar whispers and the excretion of unholy, droning passages, both of sound and time. While certainly much less abstract and wayward, the Narshe moniker simply did not fit the needs of an ever-evolving artist, and Bowers shed the skin in early 2011, deciding that his sounds needed nothing more than his birthright.

Now, with Post Modern, he has dropped all pretenses, peeling away the distracting surrounding elements of his sound to reveal one of the purest minimalistic electronic records we've has the pleasure of experiencing in quite some time. Whereas a large handful of synth-based electronic artists these days focus on creating the most complex, lush soundscapes and arpeggiated dancehall dreamstates they can muster, Post Modern allows Bowers to explore the distended Utopia of subway chants and skyscraper scrawls, tasting the muck beneath each rail and plucking every pearly white away from this imagined city's last dying grin. Picking the brains of (but never attempting to emulate) motherboard martyrs such as Aphex Twin, Nobuo Uematsu, and Karlheinz Stockhausen, this sublime collection of sounds ranges from pure static manipulated into pulsating sines of ethereal rhythms to resonating walls of homegrown ambiance.

Call it dream trance; call it techno-illogical. Call it anything you'd like; if you're ever feeling nostalgic for a crisp city night, route these sounds through the nearest pair of headphones and take a long trip down any given dirt path. You'll find what you're looking for.

Audio / Visual sample I

Audio / Visual sample II

To Purchase

The album can be purchased from the He Of The House Shoppe for $10, plus shipping, which is calculated upon checkout. Speaking of the Shoppe, I have spent the last week and a half perfecting a built-from-scratch system based on an open-source shopping cart configuration which allows for an exquisitely easy process. No longer does one have to choose their goods from a text list, print out a piece of paper, fill it out, mail it in, and wait for a response; the online Shoppe can now process PayPal and Credit / Debit cards, as well as keep an updated stock of what we have in order. I have uploaded all of our current available distribution items, and we will be seeking out quite a few more, in our quest to become a true 'distro'.

Please note that whenever you purchase something released through one of our subsidiaries (Haute Magie, Evil Genus), you are actually directly supporting the artist and not just the label, as we pay our artists as much as 50% royalties on their work and never plan to stop. So, if you've ever exclaimed the overused "support independent art!" mantra, now is your time to shine.

Coming Up Next

RELIC 002
A double album from Finland's Bird From The Abyss], compiling all past released work and a few unreleased treasures into one amazing double cassette, in screen-printed white cardstock cases, sealed with wax, containing a large foldout posted with artwork and liner notes. Initial pressing of 200 copies.

RELIC 003
A reissue of Mike Bruno’s album “The Sad Sisters” (CD, 2009, Marygarden Tapes + Things) on beautiful 12” vinyl (our first of many) with new artwork and liner notes. Initial pressing of 500 copies. First few copies come with Domovoi Record’s only release of Mike’s “In Memory” CD-R, while supplies last.

RELIC 004
A split between David Carter and one of Ryan Harris’ alter-egos, The Witch Family wherein David’s unique, esoteric visions are manipulated into painfully beautiful scores for the rhythm of a dark city’s heaving bloodlust. Released in memory of David, who tragically left us a few months past. Initial pressing of 200 copies. All profits from this release wil go towards a 12" single from the album.

Also coming soon:
"Horation Hymns" LP / "Farewell" cassette from Ross Major, a CD ("Family Gatherings") and later on an LP ("Vales of the White Gloom") from Mike Bruno + the Black Magic Family Band, the cassette demos from Weird White Wolves' "Weird White" LP (LP also coming soon), The Witch Family's "Cosmic Earth" LP, a to-be-named cassette from Super Black Moon, a double cassette combining hip hop glitches and musique concrete from Cazukay, and a LP reissue of the Footpaths / bunrage split (HM008).

See http://hautemagie.com/relics for more information and upcoming projects.

"Haute Magie Records" HM001 - HM007 blowout sale

We are currently having a sale on all past 'Haute Magie Records' albums. HM001 - HM007 are available for only $25 plus shipping. Visit the Shoppe (http://heofthehouse.com/shoppe), click on 'HM001-007 sale' in the left sidebar, add all seven items to your cart, and when checking out, use the code 'notmagic'.

Available: tapes and CDs from Torturing Nurse, Zebulon Kosted, Sorry Robin, Woven, RedSK, A Mannequins Smile, Nemesism.

You must add all seven, and cannot apply this code to any other item. We have enough copies of all seven releases in order to actually sell seven copies of this package deal, so if all seven do go out, we will probably either sell the albums individually or work out a remaining package deal. Of course, you can also purchase the albums separately, as is.

We are extremely excited for all of this, and everything to come. This has been a long time coming, and it will be an insurmountably long time ending (read: never).

I have been debating this for some time now, and I've finally decided that it would be beneficial to reopen my account on this here website. LastFM is one of the few remaining sites which seems to inherently promote the good in networking, and its encyclopedic / catalogue abilities are too good to pass up.

I've left all of the completely irrelevant groups I used to belong to, and you won't see me floating around shoutboxes much, but I might be known to give a hey-ho every now and again.

He Of The House and Haute Magie have also returned, and with quite a vengeance. For the first time in over a year, we are about to release our first official album in our new mode, William Bowers' EP "Post Modern", on replicated glassmastered CDs in black matte digipaks.

I suppose one of the other largest points of change is that in wanting to become a 'real' record label, we have decided that we are going to begin paying royalties to our artists on all of our releases.

I have sent a newsletter detailing these revelations and other updates. If you are not on the mailing list, you can join by visiting heofthehouse.com/newsletter/. Tonight's newsletter can also be read by visiting heofthehouse.com/newsletter/electronic/007/.

Also, if you have ever wanted to grab a past 'Haute Magie Records' release, now is the time. We are having a blowout sale on all past Haute Magie releases – there are still copies available of our old releases, HM001 through HM007. The last four are out of print, but you can pick up the first seven for $5 each, postage paid in the US (add $2.00 for out-of-country shipping), or grab all seven for only $30 (add $4 for out-of-country shipping). We will accept well-concealed USD and cheque / IMO (made out to Amanda Boutourline). If you intend on paying with PayPal (see directly below for a slightly sheepish explanation), please send all payments to silas@heofthehouse.com until I can get the buttons on the site corrected.

View these past releases here hautemagie.com/relics/long-ago/.

All in all, I can say that I am glad to be back, and our sincerest thanks goes out to everyone who supported He Of The House without a doubt that we would one day resurface. Now is the time for change, and change will be had.

Welcome me back or hurl words of hatred at me. All I know is that I will be steering far clear from the BrokeNCYDE shoutbox...

Serious business, only. Serious business.

Silas CiaránBicycle SighsSleepers

Please, if you agree with the sentiments related within, re-post this wherever you may like or feel fit. I am trying to spread the word of this as much as possible.

I also posted this on Myspace, though I am moving away from it as much as possible.

http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=408250670&blogId=530219597

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I full well realise that the content of this may confuse some.

This has been sitting and brooding in my mind for quite some time now.

How many independent labels exist in the DIY scene? Hundreds... Thousands... Hundreds of thousands? I would bet a pretty penny that the number exceeds anything any of us could muster up from the dustiest corners of our minds.

They are all different in some way, even if the defining point may seem a bit blurred to an untrained eye. But then again, how trained does one truly need to be to acknowledge something so very blatant?

We churn out harsh, buzzing landscapes, pounding, deafening barrels of sound, softglo acoustic ballads, and hazy dreams put to a beat. Some of them truly, definitively stand out. But as a whole, so much is interchangeable and so much more is the same that it begs one to ask the question 'why?'. Why do we keep relying on such a plastique plateau, such a reformed sense of dignity and pride-raping structure? Because we can?

The underground community, while a strong one, has become so stale in a sense. Reverting back into itself, finding only what is comfortable; our stasis is incomparable, yet rarely acknowledged ... we need to taste the breath of a newborn, to suck the air from one leather-beaten lung and blow it into another. A bleeding, visceral entity that we can steer in a whole new direction.

I want to establish Haute Magie (and He Of The House in general) as one of the only labels on the underground circuit that TRULY differentiates itself from the whole lot. There are countless numbers of them out there, but not a single one that I've ever come across releases the kind of sounds that I am striving to sniff out, and very few even reach outside of the 'noise' scene, as broad a gamut as it may be.

If you disagree with this and believe me to just be a grumpy old stodger, then click on any random record label's Myspace page and listen to a few samples. I'll bet that pretty penny from the start (because I'll still have it, won't I?) once again to see you drop your chips, raise your cards, and agree with the fact that far more than half of the time, you are going to hear harsh noise, soft folk, and an assortment of other 'comfortable' sounds that the DIY scene seems to take to so easily.

And let me say quite clearly: I LOVE these sounds. I cherish them. I am not attempting to disrespect ANY label out there (though there are a few that I could easily tear down with only the harshest of truths, and they know who they are), and I hold true to the fact that this is Home for me. However, I am not one to sweep things under the House's most lovely rugs.

In short, what I am attempting to say here is that I am reaching out to those who are the true outcasts of the underground. Do you play a style of music that is usually ignored by underground labels and people in general? Perhaps you've merely been too apprehensive of things I've mentioned here to approach one. Well, that stops now.

I will release everything from psychedelic Hip Hop to crusty Black Metal, from airy Japanese Pop to deep Country Blues, from seething Acid Jazz to dark and witty Standup Comedy, from screeching Operas and pure Classical to x to y to z to x and all over again. 70s pornography soundtracks. A capelle Bebop. African Tribal drumming. Lounge, Bossa Nova, Swing, Doo Wop, Chamber, Cabaret, Funk, Carnival, Film Scores, Drum and Bass, Psychobilly, Coldwave, Gospel, Ars Nova, Barbershop Harmonics, Big Band, Beatboxing, Scat, Bluegrass, Bitpop, Polka, Ragtime, Shoegaze, Showtunes.

Anything and everything. The sounds just need to be found...

Things that fall into 'normal' genres with a psychotic twist are some of the most welcome.

And I am also trying to encourage others to do the same... seek out new things. Please. For the sake of our community.

Well, seeing as how the Hallowe'en compilation came out absolutely amazingly, and I got to work with a handful of great artists, I figured it was time to start up the next ones.

I have dozens of other ideas, but these two interest me the most as of right now.

Spoken Word
I have always had a small obsession with spoken word, comedy, standup, poetry (but not readings) performances, and so on.

Therefore, I figured I might as well try this out. Since this will be the first spoken word comp, there won't be a general theme, but I would really appreciate if the material submitted was mostly all new.

No submission deadline as of right now, but if things start dragging along and I've got a good amount of material, I will figure one out.

Tracks can be accompanied / backed by music, and collaborations are welcome, but tracks with nothing but samples / pieces of music with samples or spoken word that obviously have nothing to really do with the words, are not welcome.

Entries thus far: Sleepers, Agnostic Asylum

Female Noisers / Experimentalists
Experimental noise, dark ambient, industrial, and so on has always piqued my interest so much more than other genres, when it is made by females. This isn't a generalisation, it's the truth; males are far more likely to create experimental music than females. I've been to a lot of countries and have been involved in a lot of scenes, and it is just universal.

I've always wanted to collect a flat out female-based compilation. It doesn't HAVE to be noise by any means, but the more 'experimental', the better. Noise, power electronics, dark ambient, power violence, anti-pop, one-woman black metal, trip hop, drone, ambient, hip-hop, and so on. Not really interested in full bands or 'metal', but if you truly stand out, you might be welcome.

Absolutely no singer-songwriter / folk, unless it REALLY stretches the boundaries of those genres.

For the deadline, same as above.

Underground Hip Hop
This is pretty much self explanatory. I want to pull together all of the extended genres threaded throughout the underground Hip Hop world of today.

Any form of the genre is allowed, meaning all crossovers. Nothing pseudo-gangster. Nothing racist, nothing overly stupid, no 'bitches and hos'. You know what I mean.

=================================

These will be released on He Of The House Media as CDr or cassette, and each artist gets a copy for their archives.

If you have submissions for either, send them as a WAV or on CD to:

heofthehouse at yahoo dot com

or

He Of The House Media
PO Box 4207
Austin TX 78765-4207
USA

heofthehouse.com
heofthehouse.com/compilation (being updated, currently)
last.fm/group/He+Of+The+House
myspace.com/heofthehousemedia

and as always, check the website for amazing releases by many artists, and so on.

So it goes. Thank you.

He Of The House's very first (of many) compilation. Nineteen tracks from twenty artists, the end result of which is possibly one of the most diverse compilations I've ever heard. From soft spoken acoustic folk to raving, churning dirge tunes; from a noisy, industrial cover of a Sonic Youth song to oldschool punk from when it was still raw, fast, and unforgiving. Powerviolence peppers the grounds where spooked whispers whinny along, and the caustic words of a madman festering in his own mind play out over perpetually plucked guitar strings. A true honour it is to work with these amazing artists, and I do hope we can keep them coming back for years.

Featuring: Zombie Battle Axe, XharoldshitmanX, Kro & Jason "EVIL" Covelli, Nemesism, Ginny Greenteeth, Don't Move, Spiral Vertigo, chachi on acid, Mike Bruno, Autopia, Dead Kid Harvester, Jason "EVIL" Covelli, Karmakumulator, Chelsea Wolfe, RedSK vs. teh soup rebellion, Torturing Nurse, Sleepers, Flea McGruff

Housed in handmade & handpainted paper jackets with individually original black tissue cutouts, enclosed with a button. It was supposed to come out quite a while ago, but now that the label has finally found its legs, this wonderful barrel of noise has found its home.

Having been a fan for years now, I've always thought of Torturing Nurse as the absolute epitome of noise done right. I've heard perhaps two recording of theirs that I didn't like, and even then, it might have just been the set and setting. Regardless of this, this wee cassette (only fifteen minutes in total) has to be one of my favourites, and not merely because I have the honour and pleasure to release it. Though so short, the entire tape seems to last for hours. Side a (fist a sickle) finds buzzing unrelenting and unforgiving electronics slicing through the eardrums, backed by caustic screams and shrieks certainly only fit for bounding off of the padded walls of any given asylum, whilst side b (destruction output) completely turns things around with its churning behemoth, slowly yet surely making its way through the mists of side a's aftermath.

Limited to fifty copies in clear plastique cases with inserts, and artwork rendered by myself.

Pick up a copy now for only $6 USD.
Ordering details can be found here
http://www.heofthehouse.com
http://www.myspace.com/hautemagierecords

Domestic shipping is free
Kanada and Mexico - add $2
International - get in touch (based on distance)

Chinese friends, hold on a touch, Torturing Nurse's copies will be going out to them as soon as I can get to the post office.

We also have a handful of other releases available, on the website
