Magnificent. Based on Alice in Wonderland. Heard this a few years ago on Pandora. Absolutely epic prog metal. Everything about it is fantastic: every instrument, every musician is spot on (including the vocals! Russel Allen has a great set of pipes!), the composition is varied and interesting, the solos are wicked-awesome without being totally overpowering, the storytelling and lyrics are fantastic. It's the full package. Passionate, great musicianship, great singing, great storytelling. Can't fault it on anything. Nothing I don't like about it. Just... so fantastic.

The same goes for Symphony X's other epics, The Odyssey and The Divine Wings Of Tradgedy. That last one in particular is very bittersweet.

(Where can I get more stuff like this, by the way? I've tried Dream Theatre but it didn't really grab me).

What else...

Plug In Baby. Ever since I first heard this song I've wanted to play it. That was before I even thought about picking up the guitar. The riff is just fantastic. Bit of a shame the song doesn't mean anything and came about as a result of a magic mushroom binge, but that doesn't change how great the riff is.

The March Unto Death and Ambush in the Passage by Jeremy Soule. Loved these tracks since I first heard them, back in... holy crap, eleven years ago when Total Annihilation came out.

Break Your Chains and Never Give Up. Most of
Paper Blood, actually. Really uplifting. Really happy metal, which sounds pretty wierd but works really well. And the musicianship is great.

Man On A Mission. I'm a sucker for metal/rock operas, and this is a great one. A man on a mission against evil, Orwellian rulers. "Give us a chance to live! Give us a chance to die! Give us a chance to be free/ Without fire from the sky! Give us a chance to love! Give us a chance to hate! Give us a chaaaance... before you kill us all!". It's great stuff.

Because I love rock operas so much, I'll throw in Knights of Cydonia and, of course, Bohemian Rhapsody.

I've got a soft spot for Soldiers of the Wasteland and Fury Of The Storm. The lyrics are such utter crap, but I can't help but scream them out at the top of my lungs. So incredibly cheesy. But it's awesome cheesy. It was great seeing them live, shouting out "For victory we ride! Fury of the storm!" with the crowd. Solos no human being should reasonably be able to perform.

Go It Alone and Seven Nation Army. I group them together because it's Jack White's bass guitar on Go it Alone that really makes Go It Alone. Seven Nation Army is just fantastic.

At the moment it's Big Huge Games, but that's actually Duane Decker. None of the tracks I have of his have any lyrics.

Bethesda Softworks, which is really Jeremy Soule's work (who I'll talk about here). The original Total Annihilation sountrack, definately.

London Symphony Orchestra: only the Star Wars soundtrack.

It's tagged as Cryo Interactive, but the music is actually by Stéphane Picq and Phillipe Ulrich, as far as I know. Probably Arakeen Palace.

System of a Down: Mezmerize, I think.

It's listed as LucasArts, and that's a variety of artists. That's a very good question. Probably Tie Fighter for the music and it inches out the others for gameplay, too.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers: ooh, that's a hard one. I love the guitar on Readymade, but I also like Hard To Concentrate, Snow (Hey Oh), Warlocks and Charlie. And Get On Top. And Otherside. And Parallel universe.

id Software, which is really Bobby Prince and Sonic Mayhem (for Doom and Quake 2 at any rate). Running From Evil, which I'm told is heavily based on Megadeth's Hangar 18. Played Doom 2, as a little kid, at someone's house before I played Doom. It was the most badass thing I'd ever seen.

Ensemble Studios: Stephen Rippy and Kevin McMullan's Flavor Cats (In the Comfort Zone). Great chilled, laid back stuff.

No 44, I'll go with #45, The Laziest Men on Mars: Invasion of the Gabber Robots. I still get a huge grin on my face when I hear that one. And I still love the meme :P.

Metallica: Master of Puppets, no question. It's the only one I've got, but I've heard stuff off Load, Reload, Metallica (The Black Album) and St Anger and I wasn't impressed by any of them. Master of Puppets, however, is fantastic.

Baka Beyond: Bounaka is very repetitive.

#41: Fling: Twice, back when they were still called Press Gang, both when I was a kid. I'm sure they were really surprised to see this little kid right up the front of the crowd, at the stage, singing along with all the songs.

Shiny Entertainment, which the manual lists as Kevin Manthei, Rossano Galante, Bill Boston and The Sacrifice Orchestra. Definately Desecration (Winning)

Cake: Probably their cover of I Will Survive, which is one of my favourite songs of theirs (despite the fact that I don't have it).

Firaxis, which is Robert Euvino, Roger Briggs (I think Jeff Briggs had stopped music work by the time Firaxis rose out of the ashes of Microprose). CivCity - Rome has some nice tracks.

No #31. #32 is id Software (Sonic Mayhem, Bobby Prince etc). I'll go with Quad Machine.
