I had the chance to get a ticket for one of PJ Harvey's gig in Paris for the release of her new album "Let England Shake". The more that I can say is that I was really excited to the idea of seeing her Live as it was my first PJ Harvey gig !!! I saw her Live 2 years ago at the Bataclan Hall in Paris for the release of her album with John Parish "A Woman A Man Walked By". It was excellent, mind blowing...

We arrived at the Olympia Hall at 8:00. The crowd was already entering the Hall. The atmosphere was cool.
No opening act tonight...It would have been good to have one for the price we paid...Anyway...
She came on stage around 8:20 with Mick Harvey on guitar, Jean Marc Butty on drums and John Parish on guitar and keybords.

PJ is incredible. She's got such an amazing voice and is so charismatic !
Talking about the show, I was a bit frustrated ! I was really short...Less than 1 hour and a half ! Then it was a very down tempo show ! I would have loved to hear more guitar driven songs...
But well it was a good gig like her new album which is excellent !

It was my 3rd Patti Smith experience since 1996. The first time was with my father in Concarneau (south Brittany - France), I was 16 and I consider it as my first gig ever.
All 3 gigs were very unique to my own appreciation...
The first one back in July 1996 took place in an old town under the moonlight, by the sea...Simply beautiful ! Patti sang and said poems...
I will never forget this evening...

My second Patti Smith concert took place in my favourite parisian venue. The Bataclan, in July 2004. It was a more classical gig compared to the first one but the atmosphere in the audience was crazy ! A lot more than my first one when I was 16 ! I felt this way maybe because I was older this time and knew a bit more about the woman...I've appreciated that gig in a different kind of way ;)

And the last one...but not the least ! She introduced the gig as being the second unplugged one she was giving in her whole career ! The first one was (from what she told us) played in the 1970's with Bob Dylan !
And what I can say is that this evening Patti spoke to my soul...I cried and felt undeniably good ! Unplugged dreams...The feeling of attending a one in a life time live experience ! My legs are still shaking...Thank you Mrs Smith ;) You're simply amazing !!!

Sam 22 mai – The Monster Ball Tour Starring Lady GaGa

Well I'm not a Lady Gaga fan since a long time...I've been listening to her for a few months only ! She used to get on my nerves as everyone is talking about her, she is seen as the "new" Madonna...Just for that I used to hate her...LOL ! I'm joking...well yeah I admit to be a Madge junkie and don't want to go to rehab :P
Talking about Lady Gaga so yeah I was quite fed up with all this buzz but one of my friend really loves her and was lucky enough to meet her at a french radio station last year. He is a painter and managed to give her a painting he did of her ^^ She was truly touched...
( You can see some of his work here if you want : Sn ) He never stopped telling me praises about her and blah blah blah...and well I heard a few acoustic songs and began to really give an ear to the rest of her songs. She is amazing !!! Her videos are the best actually...and she's got such an incredible voice, such an imagination !
So I went to the show and was just amazed !!! She manages to lead her show with a lot of originality without forgetting her "rock" roots...as I've heard she was really influenced by rock artists (Bowie, The Cure, Queen) when she was a teenager. There were also winks to Madonna as she assumes that some part of her show are influenced by the popstar.
Her costumes were simply wonderful <3 especially when she is dressed with this wonderful costume during So Happy I Could Die which was one of my highlight of the show...another one is Monster.

I was waiting for this moment for 8 years...since the last time (and the first in fact) I saw them Live in St Renan, a small city near Brest, in January 2002.
It was unforgetable ! Small venue, good crowd, excellent atmosphere, a band more than great ! One of my all time favourite gig for sure...even if there are many gigs I consider as my favourite ^^ LOL ! Well it depends on the tenderness I have for the band ;)
I knew K's Choice was special to me...It reminds me my teenage years ! "Not An Addict" has always been a song that I feel the need to listen to...I never feel bored with it even if it is not my favourite song from them...Well I don't know if I clearly have one favourite song by K's Choice. My favourite album is
Almost Happy, that's for sure !
It makes me feel soooo alive !!! When I listen to it I sometime feel the tears coming up...sometimes I smile and cry at the same time...many feelings running at the same time !!! It's weird but it's clearly me ^^
I knew this band was special to me...I've always known about that even if I can't tell about all the reasons...I don't think I know them all ! I wouldn't say K's Choice is my favourite band because there are many other bands and artists that I love but I feel so much respect for Sarah, Gert and the band !
The other day they gave us so much...the set was perfect. So was the sound quality ! They had so much energy to give us and that's what they've done...Sarah jumped off the stage right into the audience at the end of Not An Addict to crowdsurf ^^ Amazing !

Ending the show with God In My Bed was just THE perfect choice !!! This Live version is sooo epic, so strong, so GREAT !!! I just closed my eyes and felt goosebumps all over my skin...Absolutely amazing !!!
Thank you guys for that evening and everything...as I've said before, I've always known you were special to me but I didn't expect to be so touched !!! It made me feel so fine to see you on stage, to see you smiling to the crowd during the whole show, to hear sarah's voice which is like velvet to my ears ^^ I would have loved to hear more songs from Almost Happy like Somewhere, Tired or Shadowman for example but well I know "you can't always get what you want" lol !
It's so cool to see a band so generous and with so much respect for their audience...Many other bands should do so ;)

Je reviens du concert de La Roux au Bataclan...Et comment dire ?! Je suis trop resté sur ma faim !!!
Certes, je ne m'attendais pas à un concert d'1h30, voire même d'1h15 avec son seul et unique album...Mais 45 minutes ça pu du cul quand même !!!
Déjà il a bien fallu 3 titres pour que l'ambiance s'installe (et si je m'en tiens aux bruits de couloirs post concert, je ne suis pas le seul de cet avis) et alors que tout le monde dansait, remuait les bras etc etc...hop hop hop ils sortent de scène pour le rappel ! J'suis resté bête...Déjà *o*
Un titre supplémentaire et hop hop hop rallumage général !!! Mon amie et moi on est resté sans voix !!!
En gros sur 45 minutes, j'ai aimé 30 minutes...
Elle est toute en retenue je trouve ! Alors que sa musique est festive, donne la pêche...elle danse mais bon voila y a pas grand chose de plus quoi ! En comparaison, Gossip qui jouent rarement plus de 1h15, bah t'en ressorts comme si t'avais passé 2h00 à un concert de NiN au Zenith en pleine canicule...(Toutes proportions gardées bien entendu ;D Aucun de ces groupes ne jouant dans la même catégorie) !
J'ai aimé écouter et me dandiner sur ses titres live mais j'aurais tout autant pris mon pied à passer son CD lors d'une soirée tout en dansant et rigolant avec des amis...

Really not worth the 26,40 Euros :/ TOO expensive for such a gig !
Sorry Ms Jackson...I guess you'll get better with more tracks to present...You're still awesome but I'm soooo frustrated !!!
45 minutes on stage for god's sake...You haven't even played all the tracks from your album...
I've seen many many gigs since I was 16 (I'm 30) and many newcomers like you generally play more than 1 hour, make a few covers if they have not composed many songs yet, I don't know..."Under My Thumb" from The Rolling Stones was a good cover but it was the only one...And I'm sure you could have played a few more songs from your album...
Anyway, it would have been a good show for a festival...But I think I was expecting something more personal from you for a show of your own...And I guess I'm not the only one ;)

Gossip rocks Paris - Le Bataclan 15/11/2009

I was totally excited and couldn't wait to see Beth, Nathan & the sweet Hannah back on stage as I couldn't attend their 2 previous private parisian gigs in May (La Boule Noire) and September (Nouveau Casino). In May, I was attending PJ Harvey's gig on the same evening which was one of my best gig this year...and in September I entered the contest but didn't win any ticket..It was a private gig organized by a radio !
Anyway here I am on a sunday evening in front of one of my favourite Concert Hall , The Bataclan in one of my favourite area in Paris. The Gossip are gonne rrrrrock the place for sure !
It's my 4th Gossip gig. The first time I saw them was more than 2 years ago, not far from here in a tinier place called "Le Nouveau Casino". I had already heard from them thanks to the TV program "Tracks" a few years ago but never had the oportunity to see them live. This first gig was incredible ! The place was great, the audience was excellent, the sound was good and the band crazy ! Beth is soooo amazing !!! She ended up the gig with "La vie en rose"...Then I saw them at La Cigale and at the Olympia Hall where I managed to meet them and take pictures and had my cd signed :D Haha...I was 27 but felt like a teenager ;)

Talking about last sunday, I became totally excited when I noticed that Ssion was opening for them...This band is sooo cool ! I heard about them thanks to a contact here on last.fm a few months ago. They're even better on stage ! I've loved the videos behind them and the way they were dressed etc...Hope to see them back in France as soon as possible.

Gossip came on stage at 9:00 pm. Hannah entered first the stage. She was wearing a Nirvana sweat shirt. Then the bassist and Nathan came on stage and the first notes of "Dimestore Diamond" began...Beth was still backstage but we could here her voice as she started to sing from behind the curtains. Aaaahhh the audience was getting mad and myself included ! The show was going to be insane :D
They are in a great mood and seem to be really happy to be back around in Europe. As usually Beth interacts a lot with her audience and began with a hello to one of her friend in the audience.
I can't remember all the setlist but the show was intense, really intense. I've loved to hear the old tracks as much as the new ones. Their last album Music For Men is one of my favourite this year.
"Love Long Distance", "2012", "Heavy Cross", "Pop Goes the World", "Four Letter Word". It was great to hear all of these, Live !
Talking about the older tracks, I'd have loved to hear "Jealous Girls" and "(Take Back) The Revolution"...but anyway, you can't always get what you want ! Huh ;)
At the end of the gig they covered Tina Turner's song "What's Love Got To Do With It". I loved it ! And then during "Standing in the Way of Control" Beth came in the audience and made the tour of the place. She is so amazing and awesome ! I remember the 3 first gigs I attended, she used to ask the audience to come on stage with them...I guess it will be increasingly more difficult for them to do so now with success rising !
At the very end of the gig Beth asked the audience to sing Queen's famous song "We Are The Champion". AMAZING !

It was such an amazing gig and I clearly can't wait for the next one in May 2010 at the Zenith in Paris. The place is bigger and charmless but I'm sure they will rock it !!!

Massive Attack in Paris - 11/11/2009

I was tired and actually I was hesitating...I wanted to stay home on this evening ! But this band is quite rare on stage, they aren't touring every year and the price of the ticket was quite high so I gave myself a kick in the ass and there I was, on time !
The opening act was Martina Topley Bird. I didn't know her quite well...I had listened to some of their songs a few days before the gig, that's all !
I must say I fell in love with her...Musically it was really good and she is so sweet and pretty ! Her voice is amazing !
Massive Attack came on stage around 9:10 pm.
The light show was quite impressive and it was sooo nice to see them back ! The audience was really enthousiastic and I guess they've really appreciated the way we've showed them how much we like them !
The new songs really kick ass ! I can't wait for the new LP now that I have heard some of them...

It was great to hear the old tracks "Rising Son", "Teardrop", "Mezzanine" etc...
I loved the way the songs came one after another between "Teardrop" and "Inertia Creeps"...Totally amazing, so intense ! The new version of "Teardrop" by Martina Topley Bird is wonderful !! I felt the tears coming up...
When I heard the first notes of "Unfinished Sympathy", I guess I've wet my underwear !!! I was in a sort of trance. I so love this song !!!! It reminds me very good memories...and the voice of Deborah Miller is Waaaaaaaoooowwww !!!!! The best interpretation I've seen on stage until now...
But I think the GREATEST moment of the show was "Marakesh" !!! I won't describe it and the way they've managed to put all the audience in a kind of trance...Utterly AMAZING !!! Can't wait to hear it on the cd but I'm afraid to be disappointed because hearing it for the first time at a concert can make you expect to find back what you've felt...Anyway it was GREAT !!!

This one was clearly the best ;) even if everytime I have seen them Live I was blown away :)
