How can I write something negative about my favorite band ever? OK, OK, I can say that I don´t like albums 1 (Pablo Honey), 5 (Amnesiac) and 6 (Hail to the Thief) as much as I love the others.

2) Wilco

Have never seen them live is terrible.

3) Arcade Fire

Have never seen them live also, as they played in Brazil in the night of the marriage of one of my best friends. They don´t like me.

4) The National

I went to their concert 2 years ago and it sucked. They are sooo much better in the records.

5) Doves

They never released something as brilliant as Poundingand There Goes The Fear, but they´re still good.

6) Guided By Voices

The band released so many records in a short space of time that 90% of it was crap and the other 10% the best thing you´ll ever listen in your life.

7) Keane

They are going down the hill with their last album and EP.

8) Superguidis

They live in Brazil. If they were british or american they would be selling thousands and thousand of copies.

9) Los Hermanos

They are on indefinite hiatus, playing live sometimes. The last time I saw them, opening for Radiohead, was a very bad show.

10) The Mary Onettes

They sound too much as a band from the 80s... New house, first son... What a year it´s been!

So, I expect to make a good list for Album of 2009... So far I think it´s Dinosaur Jr., a band I never heard of before the release of Farm... What a shame!

But Franz Ferdinand, Girls, Doves, the great great album from Phoenix, The Mary Onettes... I´ll start listening to these albums in sequence so I can choose which one is the best.

it starts very well with Lisztomania and the already classic 1901, two extraordinary songs... then it loose some steam with Fences and the too long Love Like a Sunset part 1 and 2...

but the real magic is with the album's second half... what a perfect sequencing of songs!!! they are so good when put together that is a crime to even look at the skip button... they have that young-people-having-fun vibe that i only remeber listening from a The Strokes album...

apart from the two aforemetioned not-so-good songs, the rest of the album is a winner...

Long time no see!!

Since the last installment (As Tall As Lions edition), I had a few obsessions that I didn´t share with you, specially The Besnard Lakes and The Brother Kite... Mabye I was expecting something to hit me with a big, huge, asteroid-level impact. Maybe I was expecting something to be really overplayed at my iPod as I used to overplay music at my car' stereo. And it finally happened with a good-old friend-band of mine: Wilco.

The best alternative country band that ever existed (love labels! and puns!) is just releasing its latest album Sky Blue Sky in about a month. But with internet nowadays, I have the album since the beginning of March!! And I can´t remember listening an album for so long.

Of course, I devoured Arcade Fire´s Neon Bible in February, and it was a very intense 2 weeks of listening, as they replaced long time No1 artist Los Hermanos from the top of my overall chart. But now is different.

Look at this: since the week ending March 11 (that´s the week I downloaded Wilco´s new album), they placed second on the first two weeks (losing to Maxïmo Park and beloved Tracey Thorn). Since then, they gone No1. for the last three weeks. Straight. Three weeks in a row. This only happened twice before it: Belle and Sebastian (favorite album of 2006) and The Appleseed Cast (3rd place album of 2006). And with that we have 5 weeks of not so-high count play, but a high regular count that is making Wilco rapidly climb my chart.

Now that's what I call 'legs'. And that's what I call "obsession".

About the album, it's great. It's so calm, beautiful, intense and melancholic. I'm not the best as writing a review of an album I like (go read reviews anywhere else), but I can assure you how good this album is. Jeff Tweedy already had Musical-God-status for me since 2002's extraordinary masterpiece Yankee Hotel Foxtrox. I couldn't expect anything less than Sky Blue Sky.

I think it's time to move on to another obsession.

For next week, I'm scared. Just downloaded The Twilight Sad's debut album and I'm writing this while listening it for the second time. It's a great shoegaze-twee-rock album like the two previous obsessions. Beside that, thursday marks the day my eMusic account is refreshed with 30 downloads, and I'm eagerly waiting to get The Electric Soft Parade's new effort.

Can't wait for the next obsession!]]>
