I dislike both of them but props for listenin to a lot of stuff and lettin me kno about some releases. Def not the case with most guys who listen to 7-8 new albums and argue which the album of the year is. It's interesting that they are the only two complete and diverse lists about 2011 rap albums I've come across, but they're completely different from mines and completely different from each other.

I have a certain reason for every missed album and for every picked position. However, if somebody with taste much or a lot similar to mines recommends me strongly sum of the albums I'll deliberately won't check, I'll give them a try.

The one mc which Hip Hop and the world was happy to witness. With a 20 years long career, at least through half of it he was a role model for mc's showing near perfection on the mic with 5 ALL TIME classic albums. I know pretty well that people have different tastes cause "opinions are like voices, we all have a different kind" but I say it - whoever doesn't think that Guru is dope knows nothing about this music.

While lots of people connected with this culture expressed their support and best wishes(not that they helped much but...), we saw the ugly quarrels between Solar and his family. His own brother said that he knows well how manipulative person Solar can be. Solar gave a strange answer and I didn't see nothing more about that story.
So after his death a letter to the fans appears. I argue that this letter is not written by him. Why? Well let's see.


Guru was in coma, then it was stated that he's well on the way to recovery. Then no adequate info appeared. So, was he fine in the last weeks? He was recovering, then he was fine, then he dies. If we follow the logic, he wasn't in good condition at all, quite the opposite, after the coma he became very, very ill again which lead to the tragedy. And in this condition in which it's not quite clear how many concious hours he had, he decided to WRITE a letter to the fans. Not to tell Solar what he wants his fans to know(plus he has friends family etc., his music is his life but fans are by no means his first concern) but to write a letter.
But let's suggest that this sounds silly.

Guru is an mc which witnessed nearly everything in the rap game, he said 12 years ago that "severe facts brought this rap game to near collapse". He said that in a period which we consider somewhat of a "golden age". We all believe that an mc which has at least top 10 record in some of the best years in Hip Hop ever(91, 92, 93, 94, 98) knows quite well, let's say even much better than anyone out here, what dope Hip Hop is. But in this letter he comes out with the statement that the Jazzmatazz series(not only the INCREDIBLE first album but the whole series) is the best thing he ever did, and ESPECIALLY the last one. He think that Jazzmatazz Vol. 2 or 3 is better than his classics while about Gangstarr he says only the humble I am very proud of what GangStarr has meant to the music world and fans?! And what he did with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time?! Not only that he states that but he has one hope:
I hope that our music will receive the attention it deserves!!
Well, fuck you Solar. But let's suggest that this sounds silly.


He broke up with Premier quite some time ago. I can't say that I'm familiar with everything he said and with every of his interviews during these years but I've read some of them. And those of you who have too, know his Premier attitude - something like "we went in our own ways, we did what we did together, now our paths are different". Suddenly just before his death he changes drastically his attitude and says that he wants nothing to do with him in death. Even more:

"I do not wish my ex-DJ to have anything to do with my name likeness, events tributes etc. connected in anyway to my situation including any use of my name or circumstance for any reason." !

Just before his death he thinks about who should have right to connect his name with any products. Don't forget that this is a letter to his fans. But in it he decided that it's important to write the fact what is and what is not with instructed to his lawyer. Oh, I forgot about the sentence, that has nothing to do neither with the topic of the letter(which is actually not quite clear) nor with the next sentence, the one about the charity organisation. Money subjects again. So, you see? This is his most importang message to the fans, those are the things that he needs to tell them in one page. Well...fuck you Solar.

Let's analyze the spiritual point of view even. Even if we omit the fact that he was a man with deep spirituality, wise and intelligent, if I use some his own words "powerful American that's proud to be an African", the truth is that people think only about themselves before their death. A man who said that "without love we won't exist" writes before his death a letter, one third of which is filled with something, that is on the edge of hate, directed towards a man who was a huge part of his life?! In his last days, when a man thinks what will happen to him, what he did right and what wrong in his life, "Where will go when I die, will I be on the ground like I am now or in the sky"(like another wise mc wondered) and stuff, he is writing a short letter to his fans in which he discusses money topics?! Hmm...

Will you buy the next Solar product? Open ya eyez, fellaz! We know who was Guru!

You won't see Rhymesayers stuff and UGK cause I don't like em. You won't see Kid Cudi cause I feel like fuck him and fuck his baby mother too.You won't see Q-Tip cause his new-old album is not a rap album. Eligh & Jo Wilkinson - On Sacred Ground was an interesting one, nice for listening good mix of Hip Hop and folk/soul music, but again, it's not in the list cause I can hardly call it a rap album.

The year of the hugest disappointments. No need for listing them. So..if you ask me why there's no Nas - it's because I haven't heard Untitled and I don't think to do it.There's no Atmosphere,Vast Aire or Vordul Mega cause I'm not a fan of that kind of Hip Hop.I won't add The Foreign Exchange - Leave It All Behind cause I don't think that this is a Hip Hop album(but is actually still very good).The order of the top 10 could be different, they're all great. When I'm rating the albums I'm not listening only to the lyrics and beats but estimating which artist has its own original sound cause there are like 20 albums with the nearly the same production this year.
And I won't add Notorious B.I.G. - Ready To Die(The O.G. Edition) cause it's just not album from this year. Otherwise it should be #1.Same thing with Freddie Foxxx - Crazy Like a Foxxx.By the same reason may be I shouldn't add Siah & Yeshua DapoED and Jean Grae(cause Jeanius is recorded in 2004) but I added them anyway..
