Well, I haven't bought any new CDs lately....and have no immediate plans to do so....

But, I was feeling that I was neglecting this journal and there were a couple of things I had on my mind that don't really fit my other journals/blogs....

The first was that last Friday night, I changed the CD that plays in my BOSE Wave Radio/CD Alarm clock. I was thinking that I was getting tired of using Bleed Like Me, so I changed it to Finally Woken. Though that seems to have proven to be a bad thing.

While I love the Jem's music, it doesn't quite work at getting me up in the morning....though the CD alarm is what I use on the weekend, I use the radio mode during the week. And, for radio, its an alternative music station that has been known to play tracks by Garbage.

I don't know if I'll switch back or not. It is just that last Saturday was a kind of a special case, where I needed to get up by a certain time....to take a test (sure hope that this round will lead to my next job).

Then on Sunday, I was doing the rare use my iPod to listen to music...which I try to slip in now and then, because if I don't run down the battery occasionally it seems to forget how to hold a charge of 10 hours (and usually only gets about 3-4 hours instead).

I did a mix of playing artists that I know where I like everything I have for them to artists that I hadn't played much (and not yet enough to make it into my Party Shuffle list)....namely I played Wreck of the Day for the second time.

Sometimes it takes a few plays, before I that I like an album and how much. It is rare that it happens on the first play...and apparently, it wasn't the case for Anna Nalick :( It took the second play to get my attention....for some of the tracks.

But, then I was watching Conviction the other day, and there was this song that sounded so familar.....it was Catalyst.

So, today, I've just been playing the album over and over again....now having played it enough times so that it can land in my Party Shuffle list. But, I'm tempted to just continue to let it keep repeating....though there are probably other artists that aren't getting enough attention.... :o

Back to the issue about battery life in my iPod....last month I got the letter from the iPod Battery Settlement....I have a $50 store credit, but I don't know when I'll be in a position to use it....hopefully well before it expires in October, 2007.

Since my return from my December family reunion cruise aboard the ms Oosterdam of Mexico/Sea of Cortez, I've been obsessing about the band that was performing in the Crow's Nest....

On the ship they were known as "Cruise Control", which seemed a little too convenient, but that's pretty much all I had to go by in search the Internet for them.

Probably because before the cruise contract, they were known as "Anything But Temporary".

But, fueled by the wild idea that my cousin wanted to find out about booking them for her wedding....I contacted Holland America to see how I might contact the band. From this, I got their web site. Unfortunately the email address in the contact section isn't working...I guess they aren't checking their email while at sea, so the account has become inactive or something....

http://joel.com.au

Tilly is pretty amazing when she's singing Smooth Operator.... well, actually she's pretty amazing all the time ;D

Also, too bad there aren't any tracks available for download from their site that show off Tilly.... :..(

...out of the 13 that I ordered back on January 30th.

As I was looking over the CDs, faced with opening....it occurred to me that just before the holidays I ordered a bunch of CD Strippers to give away as gifts. And, that I had gotten one of them for myself.

So, I dug it out and tried it on the CDs.

It worked great! Don't know why I didn't get it sooner.

The CDs that arrived today are:

The Singles 81-85
Diesel and Dust
Sara Evans - Real Fine Place

You might notice that my recent tracks seem to repeat more often and are less reflective of what I have listened to more regularly in the past.

This is in large part to getting laid off, and using iTunes to listen to my collection rather than my iPod. The other is that I'm using Party Shuffle on a 'smartlist' of tracks played more than 5 times that are unrated.

The intent is that I will rate these tracks, though I don't always remember to do so and my memory of what I thought of a track gone by is pretty poor.

But, when you consider the reason I started this 'project' it makes even less sense.... A while back I bought an iPod Shuffle (which I only used a couple of times and now don't recall where I stashed it). In trying to decide what I should fill it with, I ended up creating a 'smartlist' of tracks played more than 10 times that are rated 3 or better.

There's current 750 tracks on that list (and rising)....I get around 128 tracks into my iPod Shuffle....I'm only using 50% of it for songs. Even though I don't currently use it for storage either....perhaps if I were to use it again, it should be 100% storage since the lack of sound check makes it pretty useless for listening to music. And, I haven't gotten into the audiobook thing.

FWIW, my unrated tracks 'smartlist' is down to 79 tracks....now 78....

Now if I had an iPod Nano....

It has been a while since I ordered any music, and even more so through my BMG Music Service membership. But, I have a growing wishlist of stuff at Amazon.com, which has a lot of music in there that I would like to acquire for my collection (ignoring that I've long ago exceeded the capacity of my CD shelving and most CDs are in piles on the floor for me to trip over).

But, I made a note that the next time I got an offer, I would order some of my Amazon.com wishlist selections from BMG.

So, here's the list of CDs (in no particular order, except that is how BMG ordered them in my cart) that I expect to have materialize in the coming weeks.
