I like the new features of Google Music! I'm glad Google hasn't let this service languish on the back burner like they've let certain other projects languish - this looks like it may be a vibrant new source for legal music purchases. The only thing I'd really like to see that I don't see now is a subscription-based option; until there is something like that, Spotify is going to rule the roost (at least until free users start hitting the six-month mark and can't stream for free anymore) and I'm going to keep paying my ten bucks to Rhapsody every month.

I'd also like to see support for some metadata - like MP3 comments, lyrics, and tagging. I'd love to tag all of my Christmas music so it would be easy to create a Christmas Instant Mix. I already do this in MediaMonkey, so my MP3s probably already had that information in them when they were initially uploaded - it's a shame my music flagged as "Christmas" couldn't have, say, a "#Christmas" tag. I also flag some of my music "Clear My Head" - songs of the variety that act as sort of audio caffeine for me when I'm having a sluggish afternoon (for example, most anything from Family Force 5 and Jesus Jones, the louder tracks from Collective Soul, 80s metal from bands like Whitecross and Bride, classic rock from Kansas and Boston, etc.) and an Instant Mix of random selections tagged "#ClearMyHead" would be pretty epic.

By the way - you don't need an invitation to try out Google Music now... you can sign right up. Glazier's artist page even has the following "similar artists" listed: Twila Paris, Wayne Watson, Rich Mullins, and 4Him. Hel-LOOOO, his artist "photo" is a picture of a parental advisory sticker! Come on, last.fm... surely you can do better than that. I don't want Glazier's parental advisory sticker on my library screens.

I've always understood confusion over weird cases... take relatively obscure Christian country/rock/new wave band Daniel Amos, which has also recorded albums using the moniker Da and even "DÄ" (which gets auto-corrected to "Die Ärzte" but I don't want to mess up my MP3 tags). But mis-autocorrecting tags on songs that have been absolutely fine for many years is just ridiculous. I reported the problem using last.fm's "objectionable content" form, but there doesn't actually seem to be a sensible way to report a song which is attributed to the flat-out wrong artist. Sheesh!

As of 9/8/2011, the problem seems to be fixed... sort of. Some Michael Card tracks are still listed on Glazier's page, but plays in my library that belong to Card now seem to be back how they were. Yay!

Last night we were at the first stop in the Winter Wonder Slam Tour 2011! Listen... if you ever get a chance to go to a TobyMac show, RUN, don't walk. I have NEVER seen a concert with the amount of electricity and energy as you get from TobyMac with Diverse City!

First up was House of Heroes. These guys were LOUD. Seriously, I think they were actually louder in volume than anything else in the night, although part of that might have been them being first, and part of it might be that I'm not as familiar with their material so I was doing more listening and less grooving, but anyway, they were cool. Actually there was a lot more variety in their music than I expected from my little bit of exposure to them in the past... I was pleasantly surprised!

Next up was Brandon Heath. We heard him several years ago in a much smaller venue; he's grown exponentially in popularity since then. He was with a full band, and did a great job. He's much more "radio friendly" than the other two groups; he's had a number of CCM pop radio hits, and he played most of them. He had a brand new CD for sale that won't drop until next Tuesday, and which he had only seen for the first time himself that morning! He played some of his new songs and some older ones. I told my wife that he reminds me of Steven Curtis Chapman at the beginning of SCC's career (which, coincidentally, occurred right around the time Brandon Heath was busy, you know, BEING BORN. ;) )

TobyMac with his live band, "Diverse City," is a force to be reckoned with. They have like a zillion people on the stage (well, okay, I guess it's like ten, but it seems like a zillion!) and they sing and rap and dance and choreograph and clown around and sometimes freeze in place for a good 20-30 seconds, just for a change of pace. They are AMAZING. They did all of the songs you would expect, and some that were a little bit of a surprise! Toby and his guitar player and another band member even came right out into the crowd for an acoustic set. VERY cool! We also got to hear a quick song from the solo CDs of two of the band members, Byron Chambers a.k.a. "Mr. Talkbox", and Shonlock. AND: a special "live via satellite" (yeah, right) performance by none other than Tru-dog himself! They know how to make music, then know how to make noise, they know how to make utter chaos... mostly they know how to make it FUN!
