I had to be in the right mood to tackle this one and that is why it has been so long since the last update. Wasn't sure if I could stomach 3+ hours of jazz, but the time passed in a flash and I liked Ella's voice so much that I want to hear her other songbooks too.

For some reason I have never really warmed to the music of Ray Charles and I must say that listening to this album didn't change that. Plus, isn't it a bit bigheaded to call yourself a genius?

LOVED this one. The rambling intros to each song were a pretty unique touch and then when Jack actually starts singing, it was clear that he was an influence on Dylan.

This sounds more like a greatest hits album than a debut. So tragic that someone with such talent died so young.

Here's Little Richard

I'm not sure if it is just because all that jazz at once was a bit overwhelming, but I loved this album. Some of the songs were a bit samey but Richard has such an amazing voice you can forgive him that.

Elvis Presley

I must admit, this album did not do anything for me at all. On the whole I admire the work of Elvis, but this album zipped past with nothing in particular standing out after the inital rush of the first track.

I appreciate why this album is included in the list, but it probably won't be something that I listen to again as a whole.

Tragic Songs of Life

I'm not really into country music but the harmonies on this record are quite spectacular. None of the tracks really stood out individually, but the album as a whole was an interesting listening experience.

The Wildest!

This is a brilliantly fun and happy album. Louis has an amazing voice that I shamefully only really knew from The Jungle Book.

This Is Fats

This was another artist that I only knew from one song, 'Blueberry Hill'. The album was an enjoyable listen.

Ellington At Newport

I listened to the 2CD edition and it held my interest throughout. The 27-chorus sax solo really has to be heard to be believed.

Songs for Swingin' Lovers

This album is like the absolute polar opposite of 'In the Wee Small Hours', but no less brilliant. Think I may have underrated the greatness of Sinatra.
