Tue 19 Jun – Peeping Tom
Well it is that time of year again, when Mike Patton packs up his antics and treks to Australia as Peeping Tom. I have had a long standing love affair with this man; seeing him as part of Faith No More in August 1995 at the old Festival Hall in Brisbane. Twelve years on, and as Peeping Tom, I would have to say that he still can put on one of the best live performances I have ever seen.

Not only does this man know how to create a diverse range of music but he knows how to put it all together and translate it for the audience. Whilst outside it may have been as absolutely freakin’ cold and windy night, inside the Tivoli the crowd was completely pumped. At this point I would also like to add that the variety of people who merge into this conglomerate, pays homage to the fact that Patton is a master of his trade. If you were there last night you know what I mean!

When I heard Peeping Tom was touring, I have to admit that I was a little sceptical. I mean the album has so many artist contributions, that I couldn’t conceptualise how it would be pulled off in a live forum, however in complete Patton flare he did it and did it well. Patton brought along a few of his Brooklyn buddies to help achieve this. With Dub trio(drums, bass and guitar), Butterscotch (beatbox and vocals), Imani Coppola (violin and vocals) and the trap was set.

The first thing that struck me about Mike Patton as Peeping Tom, was that musically this was something different from FNM. Don’t get me wrong, there was still that fuck you, grunting and growling that makes you want to throw yourself around. But this was also resplendent with funk, hip hop and almost had a big band feel with the encompassing nature of the music.

A great night was had by all. The Tivoli is such a fantastic venue; small enough to see the stage from anywhere, big enough to pack a crowd. Patton has such a presence that it is hard not to be drawn in and become one of his puppets, screaming and carrying on. A concert of this magnitude is a great excuse to act crazy, carry on and pump your fist .

All I need to know now is, who is guy was that Patton kept talking to down the front left of the audience; “The King of Brisbane” I think he was referred to as!

Much anticipation for Digweed at Family gig on Staurday night. Haven't been out for such along time, life kepts getting in the way. There's also the possibility that i may be getting to old and end up acting like that couple in Human Traffic who sit on the couch and moan about "it not being like it used to be".

Rumour has it that Digweed will be playing a 'disco' like set, i suppose they mean electronic/disco tech like. Who knows. Maybe it won't be like it was...........

but then again memories are so much more sweeter.
