As part of The WLM Metal Box season of releases we proudly bring you the follow up album to the digitally (only) available - 'West of here is west of here' by HealeyIsland... Light Music meets Dark Electronica. An atmosphere of smokey, electronic, down-at-heel cabaret. Elements of warm jazz and light music mixed with close up electronic beats, basses, melodies and momentary glitches. A journey through an imaginary landscape of run down ballrooms, dance halls and clubs, through fake lives and stories. HealeyIsland is the one man electronic music project of a South West, UK based musicalist and composernaut. An exploration of where genres meet and collide, a place where dark Electronica meets Light Music, the music is deliberately diverse and eclectic in its reference points. HealeyIsland’s next album, Not Afternoon, But Evening, is due out on White Label Music in late October 2009. The label’s official site is http://whitelabel-music.co.uk/white_label.html His previous album, ‘West of Here is West of Here’, is also available on White Label Music (WLM 087). Influences are as diverse as Jarvis Cocker, Frank Zappa, Hawkwind, Can, Aphex Twin, Kraftwerk, Burt Bacharach and a host of others from the worlds of jazz and electronic music.
http://www.myspace.com/healeyanalogueisland

The.Clinamen KOG (album)
NEW RELEASE FROM THE.CLINAMEN (SIFIR - Zafer Aracagök and Murmurists - Anthony Donovan) ON WLM - THE ALBUM - KOG AS PART OF OUR NEW SEASON OF METAL BOX RELEASES, EXCLUSIVELY RELEASED THROUGH OUR WEB SHOPS AND SELECTED RETAIL SPECIALISTS. RATHER THAN LET US BLUNDER IN THE DARK BY DESCRIBING THIS WONDERFUL PIECE OF MUSICAL PHILOSOPHY, HERE ARE A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE AUTHORS.... Zafer Aracagök (aka, SIFIR) is an academic/musician who teaches art theory and continental philosophy at Bilgi University, Istanbul TR. His musical work is well received, released and performed both in Turkey and abroad such as, UK, France, Germany and Italy. Anthony Donovan is an artist, musician, writer and academic - playing with the London, UK-based improvising quartet, Vultures; who have just completed a tour of Europe, supporting and collaborating with the likes of Faust, Steve Beresford, Philippe Petit, John Butcher, Z'Ev, PAS and Fullborn Taversham. Donovan's long-running series of writings, dubbed 'items', can be found via http://murmurists.blogspot.com Donovan is a recognised authority on aspects of Conceptual Art; and completed his Ph.D. at the Manchester Metropolitan University, in 2002.

3eem - MATHILDA (album) + bonus track
NEW TO WLM AS A PHYSICAL METAL BOX RELEASE INCLUDING A BONUS TRACK - MATHILDA BY 3EEM..... 3eem Italian trio 3eem combines electronic beats, sampling, infectious avant-dub, spacey trip-hop, airy and menacing guitar drones and circular krautrock with alternating melodic tenor sax lines and manic, nervous free blowing. The end result is totally hypnotic, like bits and pieces of a 60's spy film on endless repeat mashed up with electronic noise and static white-outs, sax solos, and Middle Eastern melodies. 3eem start in 2003 trying to research the point of equilibrium and interaction between traditional instrumentation (electric guitar and tenor saxophone) and techniques of digital processing of audio signals. The textures of 3eem arise from soundscapes created in studio intersected with live sax and guitar, drawing well defined sounds. Fabrizio Bazzoni (sax, voice). Danilo Corgnati (electric guitar and effects). Godsangelsandotherethereals For those of you who are in the swing and for those of you who are not, here are a few words from our sponsors about Beat Bigot and The Metal Box Collection… The Beat Bigot Beat Bigot is the recording collaboration between Bernard Bigot and Jon Greig, Jon Greig has recorded as Jon Greig, Sonus, Schizoid (with Marina Van Rooy) and Sliver, releasing electronic music of varying styles through German label Harthouse and U.K based Dedicated, plus other independents. He has also collaborated with friend and D.J Richard Hampson (Ampo / Coyote) as Schizoampo - cocaine and black Range Rovers preventing anything beyond test pressings.Other ventures include a collaboration with Jayne Compton (Switchflicker), recording a musical backdrop to poetry by Fiona Bowker (Mancunian poet). Bernard Bigot is a 50 year old ex-punk and has been part of various bands, including Spambasher, The Corksuckers and Designer Dogs. Disenchanted with the way music in Britain was ‘progressing’ in the mid 1980s, Bernard decided to become an accountant, and it was only through a chance meeting with Jon at a Designer Dogs comeback gig that he decided to give up financial accuracy for the life of a professional gambler-and also to collaborate on the creation of ‘electrosleaze’ styled musical product. Incidentally,Bernard happens to be the younger brother of Sir Nigel Bigot, the infamous camp industrialist, whos name is immortalised in the classic new wave song ‘Making Plans for Nigel’. Steve ‘Badger’ Badgham, New Muzik Mag 2007. However, apart from the occasional x-rated sample, his music is a blend of hip-hop and tripped-out drum & bass, warm melodic analog synths and chilled-out screamadelica brass!

We did really like them and , personally, I have listed them among the best products of a surprisingly “Italian” musical year in 2005. Well, we like even more the return of 3EEM, in their deliverance of certainty, as well as of elements of strong novelty.
The certainties and confirmations are usually expected after a good debut: stylistic consistency, maturity and confidence in their choices., all those elements that make Matilda the logical sequel of Essence Of 3eem. But there is more here. There is a stronger tension in the plot, more room for improvisation, which takes a strong role, giving more flexibility to the formal framework, and a clear attitude to risk, letting the invention prevail on the convention. All that without forgetting that the new work is the result of collaboration with a new label: unlike the first work, published by the local label Small Voices, this second album has been released by the English White Label Music and will be available for download preview on iTtunes . These elements of novelty and "progressive development" will reinforce the good pillars of 3eem project. It is still a sound that draws from multiple sources, from dub to jazz, trip hop and ambient, but all that has been enriched and enhanced by a new freedom of creation.

Not that the attention to the "closed" forms, which characterized Essence Of 3EEM, has been neglected. On the contrary, tracks like “LoEti”, the electro-march “K141” and the psycho-folktronic “Ifunerali” recall the soft and hypnotic atmospheres of the first album, in their mesmerizing and repetitive progression. The difference here is that the musical scope is not limited in its structure. Guitar and saxophone are often put in evidence over the sonic floor and phlegmatic rhythms of Valerio Zucca, with instinctive freedom to completely overthrow the starting structure of a song. This is the case of Toxic Jelly Experience, which begins with a simple arpeggio guitar and then drifts away on more than one occasion in a delirium of what we could define electro-free-jazz, to give an idea.

There is room and desire to try the voice of Fabrizio Bazzoni as well: however, “Bolscevico” does not add any significant value to what the machines are already doing. After all, 3EEM are an instrumental outfit: they can express well what they without resorting to words. (7.4/10)"
Daniele Follero
