Fri 25 May – Dimmu Borgir

This was the kick-off to Defile The Holy Cross, European Tour 2012. The venue in Bodø is pretty tiny, but goddamn what an atmosphere! It took a while before the entire crowd arrived, but as soon as it did, it remained absolutely packed for the whole show, non-stop. Both floors were jumping, headbanging and throwing their fists into the air, singing along to all the classics from Enthrone Darkness Triumphant.

The opener was exquisite - a masterful performance of Mourning Palace. They kept the pace up, before finishing with a display of utter dominance - the volume was ramped up as the final four songs blasted eardrums and brains dangerously close to numbness and coma - Gateways, The Serpentine Offering, Puritania and Progenies of the Great Apocalypse. Wildfire raced through the crowd as one by one started singing and screaming along.

Myself - my throat was so hurt at the end that I was walking around swallowing my own blood. I was still bleeding this morning. Additionally, the whole band walked right through the venue shortly after showstop. Dimmu Borgir's entire new lineup passed not more than a few inches by me. I was in absolute bliss.

This is literally the best show I have seen. It lacked an orchestra and a choir, as many might have expected in light of their latest album, since the tiny stage was barely big enough for the band itself. However, this was no detriment to the experience. The space was very intimate (and sweat-drenched), and the sound flowed generously to all corners and edges. Shagrath and Silenoz even took the time to shake hands and bump fists with a few of the front row audience.

Tomorrow they are playing in Trondheim, and after that moving on to southern Norway. I hope you guys show them that the rest of their own country is as excited for Dimmu's epic music as we were and still are up in the north.

FUCKING LOVED IT!!

Live @ Lerkendal Stadium here in Trondheim. \o/

Ozzy Osbourne came to Norway again, and put on quite the show. The only songs I recognized were "Mama I'm coming home" and "Paranoid", but apparently, he said he played some tracks from the new album.

All in all, I was a little disappointed. I've always heard a load of ranting about how Black Sabbath were so hardcore and satanic, so my expectations were high, being a black metal fan. But no. I don't know what music Black Sabbath plays, but Ozzy isn't even beyond hard rock, IMO. You would have to be delusional to call Ozzy any kind of satanic.

But it was a good show. I took 6 out of 7 seven buckets of water right in the face. Good times. I had a very good spot, with only a handful of people between me and the stage.

Here's Ozzy (image link), just as the first song is about to start. Not many minutes later, they dressed him up in this white reflective vest, so pictures and video became royally fucked up due to the intense light. This was intentional, as we were "not allowed" to film and take pictures. Bastards.

Blasting good concert. Best show ever. Avatar opened with some ear-splitting metal, which I do believe was black, or a black/death combination. I've never heard of them before, but they are extremely skilled on the technical side of things, and they appeared to have lots of experience with playing live. All in all, Avatar rules.

And then In Flames took the stage. Wow. Between the two bands, both from Gothenburg, they delivered a massively awesome night for everyone present. The bass thundered hard enough to put shame on Thor himself.. and by Odin, that's not easy to do. Not to mention, they played all-time favorites such as My Sweet Shadow, Only For The Weak, Quiet Place and Cloud Connected.

I will remember this one. Forever, probably.

11th of Nov, I attended a Satyricon concert. I can't say much more than this to describe it: It was fricking awesome. There is no word, in any language, to accurately describe the degree of awesomeness that show brought.

The speakers thundered with Frost's insane barrages and Satyr's screams seemed to rip into my very spine. If a nuclear bomb paired with a thousand orgasms could be described in sound, this concert would definitely be that sound. I had goosebumps the entire first half of the 3 hour long show.

I could've been without the constant rain of beer and empty containers of such, but aside from that, the atmosphere was incredible. The entire room jumped and shouted in ecstasy as Satyricon performed one song after another with extreme skill and dedication. Absolutely fucking fantastic.

On a not so related note, I'm letting this be my transition back to "the roots". For some time now, I've been listening to alot of thrash and melodic death / melodic black stuff. The time has come to re-discover brutality.
