On November 14th, went to see Mayhem at Station 4 in St. Paul. Overall, a quite amazing show. Mayhem never fails to disappoint. Unfortunately, there were some teenage kids who decided it would be appropriate to start a 'mosh pit'. Frankly, this sickens me. You don't mosh to Mayhem. As someone who is a major Mayhem fan (I own the entire Mayhem collection, including the hard to find shit...for example, I DO have an original copy of Live in Marseille 2000 which is limited to 500 copies worldwide), I find moshing to Mayhem a complete insult. And, last I checked, DSP (Deathlike Silence) put on albums with catalog numbers starting with 'Anti-Mosh'. In addition, this really caused my anxiety to sky rocket...so to those that mosh at Mayhem shows...here's a big...

FUCK YOU!

Anyway, the opening bands weren't too bad.

Abigail Williams: I've listened to their albums, so I was quite familiar with the band. Live they were okay. They only played 4 songs, but they weren't that bad. Unfortunately, I still found myself bored.

Hate: I've not really encountered this band before. After hearing them play live, I will be looking into hearing some more stuff from this band. They did an excellent job...the song they played were loud, aggressive and catchy. Great stuff.

Keep Of Kalessin: One word...snooze. Generic and boring...

Mayhem: What we all came to see, and they were excellent like always. Attila has an amazing stage presence and you could tell he was clearly into the performance. He used the 'unique' stage quite well (Station 4 has an odd setup with multiple columns that hold up the ceiling that get in the way of sight lines) and was on top of his game. I'm not familiar with the new guitarists enough to comment on them. I miss Blasphemer sometimes. Necrobutcher was his usual self. He does the same thing each show but who cares. It works. Unfortunately, the drum set was way too far away to see what Hellhammer was up to, but the drums were perfect never the less.

Once again, a pretty decent show. We were all there to see Mayhem and they did not let us down. Aside from the moshing idiots (maybe 5 or 10 max) I enjoyed the show. And, I was quite surprised at the number of people at the show. 150 max, if that. I guess people were watching football instead.

P.S. I'm still amazed at how many people were wearing 'ear plugs' at the show.

Mayhem
Abigail Williams
Hate
Keep of Kalessin

Live in Marseille 2000

I've decided to update my Last.fm profile with some new information. I'm also working on rebuilding my music library on my computer, so I haven't been listening to much. I find I'm playing music on my Android based mobile phone more then anything. Most of that is Nokturnal Mortum and other bands. I find I'm STILL amazed by Voice Of Steel. I listen to this more then anything and, I haven't grown tired of this at all. I honestly think Nokturnal Mortum should now call it quits, because I have no idea how they are going to top this album. After you hit a home run, the only thing you've got left is to hit a grand slam and then win the World Series (hmmmm...is Texas going to win it this year?). Good luck to Nokturnal Mortum....we will have to wait and see.

Nokturnal Mortum

Voice Of Steel
