Sat 19 May – Love Is My Velocity! Cookbook Launch

Where do I start? Maybe with the only good things about the night; if this is what Perth art crowds look like, Melbourne ones must be even more unbearably stuck up their own arse by comparison. But I don't actually know that. Yet. So I suppose the only good thing was seeing the human drum machine that is James Baker. Technique and skill ruined drumming - discuss.

Mink Mussel Creek takes the grand prize of being the most awful band I have ever seen. Well, seen and seen, we left after half a minute into the first song, which lasted about 15, retreating outside where we spent the rest of their set mocking them and their utter, utter hideousness. It was as if punk rock never happened. After that, The Painkillers seemed like the most refreshingly entertaining thing to ever happen to music. Suddenly punk rock had actually happened, and all was good. We opted to go get icecream rather than stay and watch New Rules For Boats. Chocolate chip cookie dough icecream beats most bands for that matter. We had got our hopes up for Institute Polaire, who had a lot of potential, but were too loud to be good in our wimpy books, so we left. I did feel very cheated indeed.
Oh, and charging $30 for a cookbook and god knows how much for that "art"? You must be fucking joking. Right?
