Utada's Come Back To Me... hm I have such a polarizing reaction to it. I really like listening to it, and she totally sounds in pain (which is a good thing) like at the end of Prisoner of Love where she pleads, "Stay with me / My baby, say you love me," but the song sounds so generic. It sounds like all those other R&B songs out there; if it were not her singing, I'd probably skip it... probably. I dunno. Plus, some of the beats sound really cheap, like it came straight from the computer, but then again, Flavor of Life -Ballad Version- sounded totally cheap, too, with the strings, but it sold like a bajillion downloads*. But I find really funny people trying to interpret this one line in the song:

"Lower East Side of Manhattan
She goes shopping for new clothes
And she buys this
And she buys that
Just leave her alone"

I've seen:
"Will you reside of Manhattan" - FAIL
and "On the bayside of Manhattan" - Better, but Bayside is in Queens. OH NO YOU DID NOT JUST DO THAT.

Maybe because I've lived in L.E.S. all my life, but my ears perked up immediately at that and knew that that was what she was singing.

Anyway, at least she's back... but will that be it?

It's been about five months since I first heard the song and by now I must've listened to it close to a thousand times and I still haven't tired of it. (My iTunes count says 300, but it's skewed because I constantly repeat it manually, plus I listened to it on my CD player and mp3 player). I know the romaji lyrics by heart; I sing it in the shower to time myself (it takes about four minutes to sing it, so I sing it twice and try to get outta there as I approach the end of it the second time); I've even tried whistling the tune (it sounds really weird, especially at the chorus). And this is a song I pretty much don't understand, except the gist of it.

So obsessed, I typed out the lyrics from memory without cheating! I did, however check after I was done and corrected myself and edited it thusly (focusing on the syllables/spelling, rather than if I strung them together right [kagayakidashita or kagayaki dashita?).

Arashi's final part in their three-part trilogy of songs for Hana Yori Dango is the best part of their three-part trilogy of songs for Hana Yori Dango.

WISH was so kiddie (even their music video was a bunch of dolls/puppets running around, IIRC), I liked Love so Sweet tons better, but One Love is the best because it just sounds so mature, which sort of fits with the movie's tone. I say "sort of" because of the whole bear-punching thing. I guess it definitely ties in with the mature aspect of their relationship, marriage and everything. Another major reason OL trumps LSS is there's no weird Engrish. "Love story" sounded like "love slowly," which BLOWS MY MIND BECAUSE THAT IS OBSCENE AND JAPANESE TWEENS ARE LISTENING BUT OF COURSE MOST OF THEM PROBABLY DON'T EVEN KNOW THE CONNOTATIONS BECAUSE THEY WEAR SHIRTS THAT SAY STUFF LIKE "TMTS PORN: NASTY FLAVOR JUICE."

What was I saying? ...

I don't want to ruin the song seeing it performed by the group because they always have unnecessary choreography, but hey what do I expect they are totally bubblegum pop. They're like Backstreet Boys, but even more hilarious. Or less... ?
