I'll still visit occasionally from other computers, maybe try out the wireless at Coffee Beanery. :) But probably won't be playing much music there. :(

I was just recently listening to If I Had A Rocket Launcher, one of my all-time favorite rocket-launcher-referencing songs . For some reason, it brought to mind a completely different song -- Hey Nineteen -- which is becoming more and more about me as the years pass by. I think it's weird the way our minds work; it's probably just the dark tone and mellow beat of those songs that connect them in my mind but I like the thought there's a deeper resonance between them. Perhaps I have a secret yearning to use a rocket launcher on some 19-year-old...

Toby Lightman is one of my new favorite artists. She writes bluesy, singer/songwriter-type songs with a pop/alt-country/dance feel to them -- so, yes, hard to categorize. Her voice reminds me a bit of a cross between Melissa Etheridge and Kelly Clarkson, maybe a tad thinner than their's, but whenever I listen to the CD I keep thinking Anastacia would be perfect for these songs. On Bird on a Wire, "Round & Round" and "Overflowing" particularly have that pop-blues-jazz feel to them that I associate with Anastacia.

Acoustic Brazil is a Putumayo compilation of the kind of music you might hear strolling down a street in Rio or Sao Paolo. This is heavily bossa nova but there's a bit of tropicalia and MPB too. It has Aquele Frevo Axe which is one of my favorite Gal Costa songs. A little droney but in a good tension-building way, not in a boring way at all. And I love the guitar at the end. Editors are apparently one of those up-and-coming Brit bands that I've never heard of; they were at Lollapalooza this year. And since I'd never heard of them, I missed them at Magic Stick here in Detroit. I've listened to Munich too and I like that, more conventionally rock. And All Sparks - this reminds me a lot of The Doors.
