Oh my god, that was fucking crazy amazing sick so good!

Electrelane were pretty fine as a support, had some tunes i really oughta check out.
The Arcade Fire had a mass of instruments, the entire stage was filled with amps, keyboards, and a pipe organ!
when the 10 musicians came onto the stage there was a total buzz. they opened with Keep the Car Running, which was really energetic and a good opener. Then came No Cars Go, which was just, immense, it's my favourite from the new album and live was so good. The first track from funeral then followed, Haiti, which was a lot louder and less calm than on the album, but regine was great as the singer and really put energy into it.
Then they play four tracks from Neon Bible, Black Mirror, Black Waves/Bad Vibrations,Windowsill (which i really enjoyed) and Ocean of Noise. Then came Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels), which was amazing as well. The Well and the Lighthouse was very energetic, but nothing could have prepared me for the liquid craving combination of Neighborhood #3 (Power Out), followed by Rebellion (Lies). It was so mad up front, during power out i witnessed someone standing still just screaming. it was truly spectacular. Set closer Intervention, made use of the pipe organ, and left the crowd screaming for more. When more came the encore choice was Wake Up, which had the biggest singalong of OOO's i've ever heard. Then the second encore was a cover of The Clash's The Guns Of Brixton, which was very quiet and slightly haunting, but still a good closer.
as the crowd left another chorus of wake up reverberated around brixton academy.

Belle & Sebastian: The Life Pursuit
the seventh studio album from the twee pop legends was a fantastic one, starting with their highest placed single 'Funny Little Frog', they could tell this album was to do well. recorded in America, some cultish fans could say this was overproduced and mainstream, however the end result brought about some beautiful tracks; 'Another Sunny Day', a song about the romance of sunshine and rain, 'Dress Up In You' a simply crafted pop song, with horn and trumpet parts, about a girls rise to actress fame, who talks no more to her old friend, whos point of view is sung by lead singer Stuart Murdoch, with lovely backing from Sarah Martin. My personal favourite has to be 'Act Of The Apostle II.' The main part of the song telling the story of a boy at the top end of secondary school (HIGH SCHOOL for all you non brits), and how is going on a 'little walk' to clear his mind. it is a tale of school, religion, and the end of the song, which is a reprise of track one on the album, saying how the 'city was loosing its appeal' after visiting a church just to listen in on the choir and being told to go away.
the most melodically listenable album of 2006.

Flaming Lips: At War With The Mystics
After seeing the Flaming Lips live in november, i wouldn't have thought that their most recent album 'At War With The Mystics', was their eleventh! album and twenty years since their first.
the first single to be lifted was The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song, possibly the most uplifting political song of the year, when the chorus reaches its peak theres nothing you can do but jump around and go a bit sick. Other highlights included 'My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion (The Inner Life As Blazing Shield Of Defiance And Optimism As Celestial Spear Of Action)' a track that explains how one bird doesnt leave for the winter, lead singer Wayne Coyne describes it much better saying how 'no circumstance can ever defeat us unless we let it... Resilience in the face of failure is a manifestation of the mind...'. 'Pompeii Am Götterdämmerung' is another favourite, the simple chord sequence repeated over and over, it seems to build to something extraordinarily epic, talking about volcanos, and suicide and other crazy shit.
a fantastic album, but to get the real experience, see them live and be amazed.

Jim Noir: Tower Of Love
Finally, the debut album from 24 year old Jim Noir, a solo artist from Manchester, (he apparently lives just a few roads away from Badly Drawn Boy) and his blend of 60s psychedelic pop not too dissimilar to that of the Beach Boys and Badly Drawn Boy himself. Though relatively unknown, many people, football fans especially will recognise the track 'Eanie Meany' as it appeared on the Adidas advert during the world cup with the chorus 'If you don't give my football back, im gonna get my dad on you!'.
Noir recorded most of the tracks at home so he had time to record many harmonies to his vocals, he even said 'im bringing harmonies back' which is a nice thought. Standout tracks include Computer Song, using a computer as a metaphor for a woman, making him 'upset when i have to reset your heart'. it is a sad yet upbeat tune. This could also be an attack on computers and recording studios, in the lines 'every time i try to make a silly little song, my efforts are all wasted 'cos machinery goes wrong'. Key Of C, a song about well, the key of C and how it is easy to play in, the song itself is in C, it is a well crafted track with good lyrics and the trademark harmonies in the vocals.

I really like the flute on 'The Grand Vizer's Garden: Party Part I (Entrance), from Ummagumma?

Or the opinion that every album after Piper At The Gates Of Dawn was trying to match the elegance and psychadelic-madness of Syd Barrett's song writing.

somehow they manage to create epic wonders of 17minutes long (Dogs) and basic stripped down 30second songs calling out for help (Stop).
not to mention Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

there is still a lot i need to discover.

Syd Barrett might be dead. The famous four might have gone their seperate ways. but the legacy will always live on.

Lets just hope for a reform eh?!
