DL September - Cry For You

This may not work for you the first time you hear it, but trust me - it's a grower. The song is quite strong itself but the slightly transformed 'Small Town Boy'-Sample (from Bronski Beat aka Jimmy Sommerville) makes it a winner - ask Axwell who landed a huge dancefloor hit with 'Tell Me Why'.

Even though I really liked (still do) the first single '2 Hearts', I haven't got around to listening to Kylie's album 'X', until today.
Gotta say 'Wow' has gotta be the gayest song I've heard in a long time; judge for yourself...

Okay it's the second annual clemens1986 Top Albums of the Year Chart and Retro/Outrospective. Okay I'm running a little late, but so was I last year, so I'm just gonna pretend it's intentional.

1. Jay-Z - American Gangster

"...and the winner is Hov!" This is Hip-Hop. Period. I love each and every track on this instant-classic. American Gangster effortlessly combines old-school hip hop sounds, classic soul samples and futuristic Pharrell beats here and there. And Jay's performance? Best rapper - dead or alive.

2. Justice - †

Sometimes there are religious moments in music. When the first beat of the opener Genesis hits, it's one of them. Using Daft Punk's legacy as groundwork, Justice deliver a stunning monster-electro-funk debut and already succeeded in establishing an unmistakeable trademark sound.

3. Amy Winehouse - Back To Black

Unexpected hits the hardest. Who would have seen a sixties soul revival coming. If it wasn't for this ingenious collaboration of Amy Winehouse with producer Mark Ronson, who would have even wanted it?

4. Prince - Planet Earth

The time of Prince, the innovator is long gone, for quite precisely 20 years now, if you care to ask. Nonetheless he's still easily capable of delivering more-than-solid albums and adding new material and new styles to his seemingly infinite repertoire.

5. Chemical Brothers - We Are The Night

What can I say? It's the Chemicals! You gotta love 'em. It's new sounds but then again it's vintage Chemicals stuff. It's weird but then again it all makes sense. It's uplifting but then again intimitading and dark. It's sophisticated but then again pretty stupid. To sum up: They're having fun doing what they do and you can feel it.

New albums I'm looking 4ward to in 2007 (from what I've heard so far) - in no particular oder (but starting with the ones I already had on my radar for '07):
Michael Jackson - every six years or so, whenever a new album is on the horizon, I'm turning into this massive MJ fan again. C'mon Mike, bring it on! Yesterday I stumbled across this on youtube. It's *yawn* okaaay, but oh well, at least he sings like a bird.
Dr. Dre - Detox; what the fuck is taking him so long? It's been postponed for years now; that's either a very bad sign or a very good one. I hope for the latter.
Gnarls Barkley - I don't care what they do. Just do it!
Madonna - I like Madonna. A Lot. She's one of the last of a dying breed - a real pop star (although I hate this 'everything was better back in the day'- type of whining & complaining). Let's see what Timbaland and Pharrell can do with her, or what she can do with them, for that matter.
Usher - I think he's a talented lad, so I'm quite curious what he comes up with.
Janet Jackson - After hitting rock bottom, the only way is up... I guess.
Mariah Carey - Ah, living proof for the statement above. Will she maintain, or will it be Glitter part 2? *shiver*
Whitney Houston - Another rock bottom attendee. I read DJ Premier's working with her. Can't go wrong with him.
The Roots - ?uesto is my hero, but Game Theory wasn't my thing. For Rising Down, I'm hoping for Phrenology/Things Fall Apart direction.
Nas - Nigger. Even though I really like Nas, I actually only put this on here because I'm curious whether he's actually going to name his album that.
Eminem - Okay since 8 Mile everything he did pretty much sucked. Sucked hard. But I got a feelin' about this one... King Mathers is the title btw.
Rakim - The master of rap. He invented modern rap. And he's still one of the very best. "...my favourite rapper used to sing ch-check out my melody..."
Prince - I'll take anything and everything.

Maxwell - Can't quite figure out what he's up to - a trilogy or something. Whatever. He's made outstanding music so far, so why should the new album be any different in that point?

Riley inspires House

First time I saw this scene I made a mental note to look that song up, which I forgot, of course.

But now I saw this little bit on TV about Terri riley, the inventor of 'repetitive music', as they called it. He obviously was a pioneer of electronic music, inspiring genres that were yet to come (house, trance, techno etc.) quite some time before the likes of Kraftwerk, who incorporated a lot of his ideas. So did The Who who actually used one his works to create a tribute, titled 'Baba O'Riley', which is in fact the song used in this scene.

Cool stuff.
