I recently saw that my Interpol play count here on last.fm reached the 3.000 mark and began to think: How long are you listening intensively to Interpol?

I watched my results for the last 12 months and came up with 2.874 listened Interpol songs and these are nearly my 3.000 plays overall.

So I put Interpol's three albums into my Winamp playlist and generated an HTML playlist showing me that there's an average duration of 4:19 minutes per song.
(I listened to Turn on the Bright Lights and Antics the most, but there's also a moderate amount of Our Love to Admire.)

Thinking of the many times I listen to a certain Interpol song and switch back to my favourite part after it has finished, I thought I had to add some extra seconds at least. I also listen to Interpol on my MP3 player a lot, so I thought it would be okay to raise the average duration to 5 minutes. ;-)

Multiplicating 5 minutes with 3000 listened songs brought me to 15.000 minutes of Interpol in the last 365 days. Dividing through 60 minutes an hour gave me 250 hours! Dividing through 24 hours a day gave me 10,41666......... days!

In fact I've spent about 2,85% (almost 3%) of the last year with listening to Interpol.

I found this very interesting and some kind of disturbing. Notice that all my play counts are "real" and most of the time I only listened to the music without doing anything at the same time.

So this is my first journal entry on the new last.fm beta site which I like very much except some design-/color-issues, but I'm sure there will be improvement until beta is done. :-)

Well, I had a little fun by collecting bands from New York, already recognizing that Interpol and The Strokes (my two most heard bands here) are from NY and came up with this result:

1) The Strokes
2) Interpol
3) Yeah Yeah Yeahs
4) TV on the Radio
5) The Walkmen
6) The Rapture (only located, not formed there)

Now I'm searching for people to complete this list. As you see, all of those bands go in a certain direction of music. So please don't post hip hop acts, metal bands or something like that. :-P

Well, an ironic title...

I haven't stopped listening to Interpol for months now.

First I fell in love with Turn on the Bright Lights. Nowadays, I'm done with it (listened too much), except Leif Erikson and Untitled. Antics is my favourite right now (especially Not Even Jail), while Our Love to Admire is my faithful companion but never exploded like the others, except Pace Is the Trick.

I'm looking for a new band I can't stop listening to, 'cause I fear that Interpol will have done for me soon... I tried many bands and directions of style, but it isn't the same. Are you also big Interpol listeners? And what are your next favourite bands? I'm open for everything, at least it must have something to do with guitar-based music, but it doesn't have to go in exactly the same direction than Interpol.

My Sleep Playlist

I just found a journal entry of the same type but answering has been disabled, so I started an own one because the idea is quiet cool. :)

I used the windows search to find all of my songs that contain a 'sleep' in the title and found 30+ songs. Additionally, I removed all songs that absolutely didn't fit to the "sleep theme" - that means songs that weren't silent or didn't have a dreamy mood or something like that.

I ended up with 14 songs of partially different artists and here it is:

My music taste has changed dramatically in the last weeks. I used to listen to that punk/screamo/hardcore stuff for a long while, my favourites were and sometimes still are artists like Saosin, Thrice, Finch, Funeral for a Friend and Silverstein, but also punk rock like Fall Out Boy, Billy Talent, My Chemical Romance or Paramore (just to mention a few).

But then I watched out for music that isn't that aggressive and totally/only depressed and even sound more grown up, but sometimes also funny. The perfect (and popular) genre seemed to be indie/indie rock and post-rock.

Above all I found The Strokes, that I have already known before. I just love their guitar melodies (I also paid attention for that while listening to other music) and Casablancas' style of singing.
I also like Arctic Monkeys, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Bloc Party, Mogwai and Queens of the Stone Age (as examples).

Is this a result of my psychological development? ;)
Or do you think this change is despicable?
What shall I do to get over my past? Delete my stats and start a new era? Or leave them and have a change to remember? Listening to those bands I listened to in the past is a very rare event.
