All, on my opinion.

1) The Black Crowes
The Rolling Stone readers elected them the "Best New American Band" in 1990. Next year came Nevermind so they might have been forgotten. Not by me! A great hard rock band, with a lot of changes on the members of the group, influenced by great bands and has recorded one of the greatest cover rock shows that I've heard, 2000's: Live At The Greek along with Jimmy Page. Download the album: Shake Your Money Maker.

2) The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Once upon a time, there was a king. From Scotland, I guess. Incredibly charismatic and a stage lunatic. Alex Harvey was a great show-man, but died too soon, only 47 years old. I wish I could see him live singing The Last Of Teenage Idols. Download the album: Next.

3) Captain Beefheart And His Magic Band.
What a voice Don Van Vliet has. Donwho? Ok, Captain Beefheart! Don't you know him? How can I describe something that is unique? I said "Unique", so don't lose your time and download: Safe As Milk.

The Who Live At Leeds".

I had a great year this year but you surely don't give a f* bout that. So, 2009? Great albums! Here are my favorites albums:

1) Them Crooked Vultures - Them Crooked Vultures
All the waiting and anticipation, all was worth it. The best album of the year, easily. Oh come on, there is a video of them playing Scumbag Blues live in Köln in Deutschland, Jones makes fun of any bass player, so Dave cuts him and starts singing so Jones don't stole the show. And Josh, as usual, creating great solos and riffs, as the intro of Mind Eraser No Chaser.
2) Humbug - Arctic Monkeys
A great change from my point of view. Not even all the songs were great, but Crying Lightning and The Fire & The Thud were absolutely brilliant. Turner has pushed himself to an even higher level of lyric writting. Their b-sides continue to be fantastic, for example, Catapult.
3) Tonight: Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand.
"I'm sick of turning on the radio and listening to the same stupid indie guitars". Ok, maybe those weren't his exact words, but Alex Kapranos surely surprised me. No You Girls and Bite Hard made me dance in the shower all the first semester of the year.
4) Cosmic Egg - Wolfmother
Stockdale has put together a great new Wolfmother, and this new Wolfmother made a superb album, White Feather and In The Morning are two spectacular songs! The cover of Jimi Hendrix is also great, they made a great comeback.

My favourite songs:
1) Crying Lightning - Arctic Monkeys
A more mature and clever band, they are slowly walking to imortality in rock and roll. (or not)
2) White Feather - Wolfmother
I spent 2 days only listening to this song.
3) Scumbag Blues - Them Crooked Vultures
How can someone create this song?
4) 11th Dime - Julian Casablancas
I didn't like the album a lot, but this song has done great, marvellous single.
5) No You Girls - Franz Ferdinand
Can you not beat your feet while listening to this song?

Names of the year:
1) Josh Homme
Being the frontman of a band that has the bassist of Led Zeppelin and the drummer of Nirvana isn't easy, but he has done very well. And, for fun, he produced Humbug and completely changed the Arctic Monkeys to, in my opinion, a better band.
2) Andrew Stockdale
The best new voice of the decade came back as the only remainer of the original Wolfmother and showed that he is the soul of the band. Great new sound with the 2 guitars.
3) Matt Helders & Alex Turner
The first is a solid drummer, really gives a great beat to their songs and the second is the best lyric writer in the world nowadays.

I hope we have a 2010 with great albums from The Strokes, Slash (and his friends which includes Mariah Carey if i'm not mistaken, or the girl from Pussycat Dolls that dates Lewis Hamilton hehe), Vampire Weekend and perhaps great new bands! Happy holidays, I hope all you get lots of cds from Christmas x)

5) The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967) - The Velvet Underground
2008. You know, I was going through one of the worst moments of my life as rock listener. By luck, this album entered my life. I didn't know a thing about Velvet, only that they were a strong influence on The Strokes. So, I was in Buenos Aires and saw this Banana staring at me and shouting "buy me! buy me! i'm only 12 pesos, i'm worth the price!" so ok, I bought. And hated it. Seriously, only liked "I'm Waiting For The Man". And when this song ended, started "Femme Fatale", which I didn't use to skip, don't know why. I ended up enjoying it. Probably cause Nico has got a great voice you know. Then, "Sunday Morning" and "Run Run Run".. I kinda educated myself to like this album. Now, is one of my favourites. Since then, I started to search more for old bands.

4) Live 2003 (2003)- Coldplay
In 2004, my father received this DVD as a birthday gift. And I knew "Clocks", so I borrowed it. And after Clocks, comes "In My Place", then "Amsterdan". But then, breath-taking moment!, I discovered that the song "Moses" was from Coldplay. My English teacher gave me a cd with top songs of MTV (sad, I know, there was Pink, Iron Maiden, Outkast and Britney WOW that's old!) and I fell in love with Moses but didn't know from which band this song was. When I discovered it was from Coldplay, i spent the next 3 years with Coldplay as my favourite band.

3) Whatever People Say That I Am, That's What I'm Not (2006) - Arctic Monkeys
And Coldplay was my favourite band, until I read this article on the newspaper about the "best band in the world" in Daniel Radcliffe's opinion. He was talking about this band called the "Arctic Monkeys". As a Harry Potter fan, I searched the band and downloaded I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor by the Morpheus download software. Old but gold! But, I HATED IT! hehe, what can I do right? But at that time, I was very disappointed with Coldplay's X&Y, so I gave the Monkeys another shot. I downloaded Fake Tales Of San Francisco. I spent the next day with the chorus on my head. "Kick me out, kick me out!". I began to enjoy the band. But then, I downloaded the song "A Certain Romance". It's a pitty I didn't have a lastfm in 2006. If I did, until today, I have listened to this song like 1500 times, without the times I listened to my CD of the band. Yet, here I am. Great fan of the monkeys by luck I might say.

2) Please Please Me (1963) - The Beatles
I was what? 6, 7 years old... And I had this cd at home, don't know why I liked it so much. I didn't know a single word in english, only "race" because I used to play GrandPrix2 hehe. And I spent lots of afternoons listening to this happy and foolish but happy album of the Beatles. I know every single second of this entire cd you know. Looking back now, I think I should have had more friends hehe but whatever.. I remember the shock I had after my father told me: "Son, one of the Beatles is dead, John Lennon in fact". I was stunned! I liked his name you know. I knew nothing about him, but he was already my favourite. I remember looking at the cover of the cd and thinking that John was George. More than a decade later, I'm still a great fan of John Lennon and most important, of The Beatles. Oh, and the CD my father have of Please Please Me is so fucked up that I bought myself a new one when I was 10.

1) Out Of Time (1991) - R.E.M.
My copy of this cd is ruined. There are holes on it. And no regrets. "Losing My Religion", "Shiny Happy People", "Near Wild Heaven", "Endgame" and "Texarkana" in one album. Breath-taking! And the cover was so simple but so original. I remember being 5 years old and so much in love with this cd that my parents forbid to touch it because I almost destroyed it. One of my favourite of all time. And the one that most influenced me. Every song I like is derivated from my taste created by this album.
